Yeah they sold like 14 NESs in Europe.

Nintendo was big in Sweden. They got really lucky, a local distributor called Bergsala got interested in their products way back in the Game & Watch era. Bergsala even wanted to release Famicom in Europe before NES became a thing. That's why some games turned out as Scandinavian exclusives.

Why would the success of a game from decades ago matter now? What purpose does this discussion serve?

      >success (...) doesn't matter (in a commercial business)
      ?

Why does the sale of games matter? What does SunSoft achieving commercial success with Gimmick get you now? What is so hard about discussing games you enjoy? Would you enjoy discussing Gimmick more if it were commercially successful? Does any of this matter? Who are you? Where am I? Do you ever wash that thing?

          >Why does the sale of games matter?
          Because tribalism.
People seek a tribe to identify with (not even to actually be part of functionally).
Its all in a misguided pathetic attempt at self validation.
Just look at the unironic console war threads still ongoing in 2024 not just on Ganker but by morons here too

All I want is people to discuss the games, if they are seeking an identity that's fine but at least connect with the game itself and discuss that rather than discussing commodity speculation of an intellectual property like a fricking business nerd completely disconnected from why people enjoy retro games to begin with

Well frick you. You don't have to talk-down to people, just because they want speculate why a good game underperformed. I thought the reasons why commercial success could be an interesting thing to talk about was self-evident, since it's the major driving force for development across all of history. If you want to float off into this boring nihilism about it "not mattering", fine, but it's hypocritical, because you are saying nothing interesting yourself. So, yes, "What is so hard about discussing games you enjoy?" is very good question.

If you don't want your thread to be taken as a Ganker low effort open question shit post thread, then start off with an actual opinion of your own.
You're asking for other's input without giving any of your own out the gate. What do you expect?
I dare you to go to Ganker and filter treads by simply "?" and check the average thread quality of any

It's not my thread and there is little to discuss beyond the fact it's a fun action-platformer. I agree with you, this thread had nowhere to go from the start.

    >make the non-japanese version's sound demonstrably worse
    >give it the most moronic cover art possible compared to the japanese version's art which was perfect

it's not difficult to adapt famicom cartridges straight to nintendo cartridges. they should've sold this shit all over north and south america
