It wasn't really bad but it was too little too late to save Sonic's reputation
I was super fricking fed up with Sonic after playing this and this was supposed to be his saving throw
Somewhat, the werehog sections do frick up the game somewhat, they over stay their welcome and the combat isn’t that fun, it’s fun for like two or three levels but it’s a slog after
should have been Knuckles for the night stages, but this was at the beginning of the "Sonic's shitty friends" era where Sega bowed to the masses and made Sonic the only playable character while 99% of the other characters were tossed in a closet.
I've never understood this meme. How do you incorporate Knuckles into the story without making it a mess? How is Knuckles going to do the stretchy arm shit?
Knuckles was already supposed to be in the game originally, plus it feels weird that they made the story about restoring the power of the Chaos Emeralds and Knuckles isn't even mentioned
Lore wise, Team Dark and GUN were stopping the second Black Arms Invasion while Knuckles was doing his job by guarding the Master Emerald. It's also stated that GUN was stretched thin trying to contain the Dark Gaia monsters and Eggman's robots.
That's a good thing, it told the story it needed to tell without bloat. I like Sonic's cast, but not every story needs to have all of them involved all the time. That's what they've been doing since Ian took over for the games (Although it started in Forces) and it's reduced them into being the Furry Avengers that Sonic always wants to be around and his power and shit, it's a mess and it's like the whole franchise is Heroes now. It's an over-correction to the over-correction they did in 2010 in response to the "Shitty friends" complaints from non-fans.
>That's what they've been doing since Ian took over for the games
You mean the one single game he's written for where the Core Four were the only characters and three of them weren't playable until the game's final DLC?
They "officially" tie into the games, though. And so does Prime, which wasn't written by Ian but also does what I just said. But it all points to the same trend SEGA wants for the franchise of Sonic's friends becoming Furry Avengers that he must be attached to at all times or else he'll die.

They don't. No media outside the game should be taken as canon, especially if its done by 3rd parties.

The frick does this autism mean? Are we now at the point where having Tails, Knuckles, and Amy around is making everyone shart their balls off?
Sonic Team is incapable of making something as good as Adventure 1 and 2. Frontiers seemed like they actually tried a little bit and it's a 6/10 that is still reusing Generations assets.
It's a bunch of kids now, in that context is a miracle that some hints on Frontiers last DLC have some kino tier design ideas and execution at high level play... but it failed at everything else including dev's execution
Honestly if people can play Sonic Adventure 2 and still claim it's better than 1 despite the fact that 75% of the game objectively is fricking miserable to play, then Unleashed deserves a hearing
My opinion is that Unleashed's day stages were solid for the most part... a few of them were way too basic but most of them had interesting design.
No, game has some good production values, but the werehog stages are fricking terrible no matter how cool and flashy the day stages were for their time.
I might tolerate the repetitive beat-em-up gameplay (if they didn't have 1 battle theme the entire game), but the balance-beam platforming over non-stop bottomless pits with the crappy control over the werehog in mid-air ruin it all beyond repair.
It's the best boost game if you ignore the night stages. They can easily remake this game into the best sonic game yet. All they have to do is reduce the length of the night stages and remove the stupid coin/medal requirement for unlocking the day stages. Everything else is perfect.
>have to play through the levels x4 >Team Chaotix objectives >speed characters have slippery handling >flight is slow as frick >nearly every level could probably be trimmed down to half its length from how much they reuse their own layouts
no
>have to play through the levels x4
No one forces you to complete the game for all teams in one go. Also you can just download save file with the final boss unlocked. >no
Yes. Still a better game than any other 3D Sonic.
>speed characters have slippery handling
It's rather fine. On gamepad at least. >flight is slow as frick
It's not that slow actually and usually get accelerated with the level's objects anyway. >nearly every level could probably be trimmed down to half its length
The game is less than 2 hours long for one team run. There's no need for it.
No, it was fricking dogshit, and perfectly representative of Sonic's "dark age" (which never really properly ended). But it's 16 years old and so the people who got the game when they were in their formative years are now in their mid 20s so we have to pretend this dogshit shovelware had some sort of fricking merit. At least the Sonic Adventure revisionists are so old that their presence on the internet is dulled compared to how it was 5 to 10 years ago.
No, but I still like it
I can hardly get it to run on RPCS3
Werehog is so sexy
No it fricking sucked.
So you're saying it's going to be called an underrated masterpiece in a couple years by zoomers?
It wasn't really bad but it was too little too late to save Sonic's reputation
I was super fricking fed up with Sonic after playing this and this was supposed to be his saving throw
Probably
Somehow Sonic survived 06 and Unleashed, and Colors saved the franchise by being a Wii game.
It's already being called that now by people conveniently ignoring the majority of game's time spent as werehog
Somewhat, the werehog sections do frick up the game somewhat, they over stay their welcome and the combat isn’t that fun, it’s fun for like two or three levels but it’s a slog after
The werehog stages I mean, the regular boost stages are pretty good overall
The werehog is 70% of the game and it gets old by the African level
I guess. I don't remember much to be honest.

Don't need the stretchy arm shit, they can be replaced with mobile attacks and AoEs.
Knuckles was already supposed to be in the game originally, plus it feels weird that they made the story about restoring the power of the Chaos Emeralds and Knuckles isn't even mentioned
People shit on Forces for turning Tails into a pussy when Chaos 1 shows up, but in Unleashed Tails is also a pussy.
The Unleashed scene isn't that bad because it's a thing he hasn't dealt with before, and he at least remembers he can just fly away.
felt weird that Unleashed didn't have any Sonic characters other than Amy, Tails and Eggman, and even Amy was useless
Lore wise, Team Dark and GUN were stopping the second Black Arms Invasion while Knuckles was doing his job by guarding the Master Emerald. It's also stated that GUN was stretched thin trying to contain the Dark Gaia monsters and Eggman's robots.

Comics and Dream Team do this as well.
comics aren't games

hell fricking yeah
Still the best looking 3D Sonic game.
And the short animation they made for it gave us sexy girl Casper.
3D sonic is at a very low bar, unleashed was ok and I do think frontiers is better but neither come close to the adventure games.
Sonic Team is incapable of making something as good as Adventure 1 and 2. Frontiers seemed like they actually tried a little bit and it's a 6/10 that is still reusing Generations assets.

That's good. Because those were pure trash besides Sonic and Shadow levels from SA2.
Still the last good 3D Sonic besides Generations.
Yes. Even the werehog parts.
SEGA WHERE IS MY 3D REMASTER OF KNUCKLES CHAOTIX
>SEGA WHERE IS MY 3D REMASTER OF THE WORST FRICKING GAME EVER MADE
lol

yes
just dont play the wii/ps2 version
Best sonic game. Shitters and nostalgitards need not apply.

>Game tries something new
>Fans hate it
>Game stays the same as it always was
>Fans want something new
It was good, despite the naysayers
It's kinda funny that even after over 20 years Sonic Heroes is still the best 3D Sonic game.
>have to play through the levels x4

Yes. Still a better game than any other 3D Sonic.
Btw 2D parts of the levels from other Sonic games are not 3D Sonic.
>speed characters have slippery handling
It's rather fine. On gamepad at least.

It's not that slow actually and usually get accelerated with the level's objects anyway.

It was garbage, best modern sonic game.
That intro is pure hype
