Id say add both Max Payne 1 and 2 on A category. Both are masterpieces but for different reasons
1 has the better gameplay, a more crazy story and the actors are having fun and it shows.
2 has still a good gameplay and I dont mind being OP with the new slow mo system, it has a more noir story and a great atmosphere
It’s a SCP game except every SCP is just some kind of weird object. No fun unique monsters. And you fight one enemy type, generic soldiers that are conveniently possessed by something, in mediocre TPS combat. And it’s semi open world with side quests, skill trees, and crafting for some reason.
it's worth playing if you like solid TPSs. It doesn't overstay its welcome, but I purposely avoided doing any side shit for the most part. Combat is acceptable though I did find one combination of skills and gun that worked really well and did that for almost the whole game.
It's about half as long as it should be, it's full of padding.
The first 15 hours are fun, the other 15 are a boring slog, especially if you play the DLC.
it's a looter shooter so you can't play high difficulty or go to high level areas without being greeted by bulletsponges who rush you and you can't do shit because your weapons are shit so overall a shit game
Don’t forget randomly generated mmo-style missions randomly popping up as you play
What the frick were they thinking

I beat this last week. Pretty fun game, and a solid followup, though I didn't like it as much as the original.
I really liked the haunted house attraction levels, and the mascot suit escort just because of how silly it was. The sound design and atmosphere of the game is amazing. Loads of little touches around, like the old lady in Max's apartament building. Not a fan of no more Sam Lake, but I know there's a mod.
Good soundtrack.
Decent list, though I haven't played them all. I would lower American Nightmare down one.
Max Payne 2 is better than 1 solely because the dream/flashback sequences in 2 don't require you to slowly walk on a wire-thin pathway for ages while a baby screams in your ear. MP1 doesn't just do it once either, but repeatedly. I've played through and beat MP1 once before, but the last time I got the urge to replay I quit on the 2nd dream sequence. MP2 on the other hand I've beaten on every difficulty and did it again with the Punisher mod that makes all weapons do more damage, including when in enemy hands. Even the final boss fight is better in MP2.
This is a good point. MP1's nightmare's sucked honestly, worst part of that game.
>The past is a puzzle, like a broken mirror. As you piece it together, you cut yourself, your image keeps shifting. And you change with it. It could destroy you, drive you mad. It could set you free.
Love the game and the quote, but the delivery of it always bugged me slightly.

He says it with a slight stress on "change". >and you CHANGE with it
which definitely isn't right. The image is changing and that's changing (You), so the stress should be >and YOU change with it
An autistically tiny detail in a game with great overall voice direction though.
I prefer the first game’s tone, it nailed a good balance between cheesiness and almost horror with stuff like Lupino and Max’s nightmares. 2’s story feels more like a stereotypical noir.
>Alan Wake II (finally coming out this October) >Control 2 (larger budget and more development time compared to the first game) >Project Condor (a four-player co-op spin-off to Control) >Max Payne 1 & 2 remakes (developed in-house at Remedy, with financial backing from Rockstar) >Vanguard (free to play PvE co-op shooter, in partnership with Tencent)
>Alan Wake 2
Dead on arrival because of ESG pandering. >Control 2
First game was boring was frick no idea what people see in it besides pretty graphics. >Project Condor
Multiplayer slop. >Max Payne 1 & 2 remakes
Might be good despite losing the soul of the originals. >Vanguard
Multiplayer slop.
They are using their own engine, which doesn't have soul compared to the real Max Payne games. The gun feel in their tech demo... I mean in their "game" called Control is awful. Same with the crappy Alan Wake 2. You can look up at the recent gameplay vids of Alan Wake 2, and you'll see how it feels soulless. Even the background sound is non-existent, which kills the atmosphere. You can also look at IGN's "Alan Wake meets Alex Casey" vid on Youtube. It features a bit of Alan Wake walking in some big city dark alley with graffiti (à la Max Payne), which can give you a glimpse of what the remakes will look like. Spoiler : it will be crap and soulless. Just go watch the vid and you'll see what I mean. You can't even hear cars or police sirens in the background and their Northlight engine looks eerly similar to the gimmicky Unreal Engine effects no one likes.
Max payne 1 - chad skinny cop with insane smile on his face
Max payne 2 - hollywood actor with generic face simping all game and crying like pussy. Silent hill 2 version of Max
I replayed 1 and 2 not long ago and 2 is much weaker
They somehow ruined the gameplay with bullet time changes and the game is piss easy compared to 1
Also i disliked the plot and atmosphere compared to 1 but that’s subjective
>need to mess around with differenmt executables to get Max Payne 2 running on Windows 10 >runs just fine without any modifications on my Steam Deck. On Linux.
Literally how?
Yeah nah, it also works with Wine without any game-specific hacks.
>need to mess around with differenmt executables to get Max Payne 2 running on Windows 10 >runs just fine without any modifications on my Steam Deck. On Linux.

Because the original games were made for Windows 98 systems and modern Windows runs them through compatibility layers just like Wine on Linux, and Wine just happens to be more compatible with these games than Microsoft's own solution.

No; it's peak Remedy.
swap the 2 max payne games and put everything else in the F catagory

Shit list.
same vibes poster
Is Control actually good? I've heard clashing opinions.

if you get it for cheap, it's worth it.
>if you get it for cheap, it's worth it.
It's ten bucks at the moment.
It's about half as long as it should be, it's full of padding.

Garbage tier list.

Max Payne > Alan Wake > Control > Max Payne 2 > Quantum Break
Here's hoping AW2 is kino, I'm excited.
It's one of my top 10 favorite games.
No, its great. Easier than the first game, but still great.
IT'S PAYNE
Best Max Payne and it's not even close.
too short, and that eacort mission is dumb
Had the same dream again.
It was a Gears of War demake for the original Xbox

Download the Sam Lake face mod and it’s perfection.
it's PAYNE, GET HIM
Combat is fun but it’s the shortest game with the weakest story of the trilogy.
>weakest story
You think so? I liked it more than the first one, but they're both really good.
You're just a dumb idiot. It's cool, some people are just born like that.
I prefer the first game’s tone, it nailed a good balance between cheesiness and almost horror with stuff like Lupino and Max’s nightmares. 2’s story feels more like a stereotypical noir.
It's definitely not as good as the first game but it's still pretty good.
Everytime I replay Max Payne 2 I always make sure to stop and listen to the jannie singing 'Late Goodbye.' I hope Remedy keeps that in the remake.

>soul
The moment you use that memeword you out yourself as a redditor and invalidate everything you will ever say for the rest of your life.
Replace soul with charm or heart then. You know that the remakes will remove most of it just like every other remake does.
Soul is very real. I feel bad for people that unironically can't tell the difference.
The remakes are going to be mediocre.

Uh oh you used a word I don’t like! Better disregard your entire post.

IT'S PAYNE, WHACK 'IM
How does his face have such an iconic look?
MP2's story sucked because it turned Max into a simp
No. And no one ever said it was.
Max payne 1 - chad skinny cop with insane smile on his face
Max payne 2 - hollywood actor with generic face simping all game and crying like pussy. Silent hill 2 version of Max
Max Payne 1: So weak-willed that falling off an edge in his dream means he gives up and kills himself
Max Payne 2 is the smoothest TPS ever made. Seriously, who hates it?
Chads hating this because its rain simp love story
there's a new sad cop in town
and he's sadder than max could ever be
i didnt like that entire stages were dedicated to shooterless nightmare sequences.
max payne only had those for chapter intros
Your memory is bad
MP1 had multiple nightmare sequences. MP2 had one
Nah, dude. Think. There's at least a couple in 2.
payne in da butt
payne to the max!
I replayed 1 and 2 not long ago and 2 is much weaker
They somehow ruined the gameplay with bullet time changes and the game is piss easy compared to 1
Also i disliked the plot and atmosphere compared to 1 but that’s subjective
No, it was good.
Anyone who has mp game ranking like
>1>3>2
or even mentions pax mayne 3 deserves a rope

see you in the next life anon
>need to mess around with differenmt executables to get Max Payne 2 running on Windows 10

Because someone already created a bunch of hacks for it to work with Proton.
Yeah nah, it also works with Wine without any game-specific hacks.

works on my machine
You probably wanted to post a pic of 3, because 2 is flawless.
