Beck's design is a mess. He still looks like off-brand China knock-off Mega Man, and he doesn't look as interesting or as cool. His main color is still blue, so when you think "blue robot", you're gonna think Mega Man.

He's a boy robot with a blue theme and a blue helmet who can be described at best as "Not Mega Man". he doesn't have enough to distinguish himself from Mega, but at the same time his design doesn't rise above Mega. I think Inafune should have done something like make Rosenkreustilette 3 or something rather than go for mega man rip off.
If he wasn't developed by Inafune you would never compare him to mega man. Every complaint about this game just reads like either

or

Well I don't give a shit about mega man, I think this game right here is fun.

promised to be a lot and didn't deliver
ended up being a generic mess when everyone, even the creator, hyped it up to be the next Megaman

Mighty no.9 was great. Way better than any indie game at the time and it feels much better than any megaman game even better than capcoms own megaman 11. Americans just loves a good train wreck and were literally looking for things to complain about so they could cause a twitter riot. Had the games protagonist been a bisexual they/them trying to overcome a mental disorder the game would of been praised to no end.
