It was the first controlled soft-reboot and it was very refreshing especially after Sinnoh, i.e. the Geodude region. The Gen 3 soft-reboot was very disorganized, occured way too early, had too many Kantomons (especially Tentacool) to be a genuine soft-reboot, and was forced on GameFreak because of Nintendo's incompetence in making the GBA, which prevented transfer from Gen 2. The Gen 5 soft-reboot had entirely new roster but you could still transfer Pokemon from the previous Gens in the postgame, so it was a win-win situation. BW was ironically Masuda at his best but Sugimori at his worst. If Sugimori didn't rely so much on recycled Kanto tropes to fill their niche then it would be much better.

It's a good game, but the thing that gets praised way too often is the story, which sucks. It tries way too hard and thoughtlessly tries to go somewhere it really doesn't have the chops to go. It's a little fricking late to be pondering the ethics of Pokemon ownership, especially since the game isn't properly equipped to let the player answer the question themselves. Regardless of your feelings on the subject, you HAVE to catch and battle Pokemon to beat the game. Thus, posing the dilemma at all is pointless. It'd be like putting a karma system in a video game and then never giving the player the opportunity to choose between good or bad actions. Why even bring it up if the game doesn't facilitate any kind of decision-making in regards to the subject? If anyone has any fond memories of BW's story it's almost always the very end when Ghetsis drops the act and just turns into an evil bastard, which is fitting because that's the least dumb part of the whole thing. BW2's plot is way more straightforward and it works a lot better as a result. They aimed a bit too high with BW and didn't have the talent and infrastructure to properly put those lofty ideas on display.

When you play Gen 1 and 2, you just can feel that the gameplay felt just right. The game just gave you the starter and told you to explore the world and do what you want. That’s what made it fun. There was no handholding bullshit and barely any cutscenes with that homosexual Cheren and N that no one cares about besides fujos and trannies. And for the people who say, this never happened in Gen 5, and that Gen 6 was the start of nu Pokemon. You’re just dead ass wrong
Honestly the most dogshit pokemon games I've played, I remember getting these games for Christmas and being supremely disappointed.
Even the 3ds games are more enjoyable than these piles of crap.
