At least he's just a normal guy. What's funny is how moronic the supposed super genius Cath is. Even she's failing to understand a concept that a 7 year old could figure out.

In the last scene she's still talking about "carrying over".

          What, this?
          >Simon. I can't keep telling you how it works; you won't listen. You know why we're here, you were copied on to the ARK, you just didn't carry over. You lost the coin toss. We both did. Just like Simon at Omicron, just like the man who died in Toronto a hundred years ago.
She knows how it works. She doesn't believe in the "coin toss." She's just trying to dumb it down for the idiot who either doesn't understand or refuses to.

I disagree. It's just bad writing. Talking about magically transferring your consciousness into another body and probabilistic coin flip nonsense surely makes less sense than just saying that the consciousness will be copied too. She could have even used a child analogy, like him giving birth to a child that will bring his will into the future to make him more accepting of the idea. It's a dumb game pretending to be clever.

              >tell Simon gently that there is absolutely no way this version of him will experience the ark
              >he spirals into depression and nihilism like he nearly does several times throughout the game
              >doesn't want to launch the ark anymore
Great job, you just fricked humanity's legacy.

She explained that the consciousness is copied over.
The coin flip is analogous, not literal - the idea that there are now two consciousnesses from the same point of origin, one has been duplicated and exists elsewhere, one remains here.
If you look at the total number of "simons" and you pick one at random, 50:50 odds as to where you land - hence coinflip.

I get that you're brain damaged and had to get scans taken or whatever, but I can't keep explaining this to you if you won't listen.

what a joy it would be to become an etheric parasite that exists as thought alone

The guy was dying of brain damage while they took his scan. Functionally speaking, there's no knowing how limited his capacity for self reflection would have been at the time of the scan or how well that scan would have held up after 100+ years in storage.
I think eventually Cath had to accept that Simon wasn't all there and there was no choice but to keep leading him on until he finished the job.

to be fair if the game followed the rules of copies and consciousness it would have ended when simon died of his brain disease because the copy that eventually woke up at the bottom of the ocean later was not him either

its the devs choice to transfer simon's "consciousness" all the way to the start of soma and then yet again when he switches bodies to the other one and the first body is shut off

these gameplay concessions are most likely why people always b***h about a "coin toss" like simon. I think it was a big mistake to showcase both versions of simon at the end, both the ark and the original

I think what they should've done was allow Simon 3 to wake Simon 2 up from his coma instead of killing him and have them freak out at each other. Would've really driven the point home when Simon 2 realized he was stuck on Omicron and his new copy would be going on without him. Conversely, Simon 3 (and the player) would have to realize that he would not be one to wake up on the ARK.

A reminder that the intellectual point of the game is to think about the concept of identify and decide how important the physical body/container (i.e. soma) is, not "are you smarter than Simon? what a twist ending!"

Meh, I think it's more about questioning wether or not a "consciousness" loses value if it becomes artificial and it's copied, frankly if I realized the members of the science team were just copies sooner I would've killed all the robot people I encountered.

Btw I never understood why that one doctor got so obsessed with the WAU that he made sure to help it spread, can someone explain?

I think he was implied to be eating the structure gel (not sure why) and it caused him to go nuts or basically gave the WAU influence over him.

People who say it is moronic are autists who literally can't into empathy. And by that I mean think from someone else's perspective. Yes Simon is moronic + doesn't really think everything over. But his 3rd copy has memories of being Simon 2 and Simon 1. If the autistic pdf woman rushes you and keeps you from thinking about it you can plausibly have the wrong impression that you can cointoss win cause you have memories of it happening to you twice already.

      There are no "memories".
Simon, like everyone else in the game is just an AI, they don't have feelings, personalities or real memories, they are robots programmed with a set of instructions to simulate a human's personality and way of thinking.

They are not alive, they don't think, they process like machines, you should know that.
