I just don't understand why the natdex is untouched in BDSP. They could've added a curated selection of post-gen 4 pokemon to the post game and it would've taken no work.

They could've added all the Pokemon to SWSH and it would have taken the same amount of effort. It was never about time or resources, only a business strategy and devoted paypiggies willing to believe otherwise. If it weren't that deliberate, then Bank would have been ported to the Switch and we would have gotten one ORAS-tier DP remake at minimum.
