If the Wukong game isn't another over-glorified graphical tech-demo or another poor-performance flop ala DD2, then I think that one has a genuine chance of winning it over FF7 Rebirth (China controversies aside.)

I really think reusing the overworld from BotW was a huge mistake and the number one reason it lost so much standing in the industry for awards season. The technical achievements for its new mechanics are very impressive, but the world after the Great Sky Island rarely makes substantive use of them (and in practice they often amount to BYPASSING the world and challenges wholesale since it's easy for even dummies to figure out cheese contraptions which utterly invalidate most obstacles). Instead of fleshing out BotW being a glorified tech demo, they just taped another tech demo on top of it.

I don't oppose open world design inherently for Zelda. But they HAVE to stop giving Link so many strong options, or at least not give them to him right away.

Oh they absolutely are. But BotW/TotKgays won't outright admit (not without a ton of strings-attached cope anyway) that 2017 was no exception either. Myself, I'm a firm believer that Super Mario Odyssey was shafted. However, the TGAs aren't the only GotY award by a long shot, and TotK got its ass spanked by BG3 across most GotY awards as well, not just at the TGAs.

How? It's completely correct. TotK only got one award (not GotY or even the big consolation prize), and Spiderman 2 (another extremely flagrant rehashquel) got nothing. Again, people admired the core mechanics of TotK, but clearly the rest of the game surrounding it wasn't enough to give it long-lasting appeal or importance as a whole package.

This is some alarmingly short-sighted design. Especially when there was already smarter precedent from themselves to go off of just one game ago, and for an asset-recycling game that was in development for ~5-6 years (including an extra year supposedly just for polish).

With the honeymoon phase out of the way, most hardcore fans, zoomer babbies and normies now agree that it was a massive disappointment; another dud for the series.
It was basically SS 2.0 as far as everything but initial sales go. Went through the same honeymoon phase cycle, made the same core developer mistakes, generated the same degree of content and media buzz (or rather, lack thereof,) and so on. Even got dicked hard by the same range of competitors. In 2011, SS overshadowed by two games that changed the landscape: a Fromsoft game known for its notorious difficulty and combat, and a western RPG with an insane degree of replayability and player choice (Skyrim.) And what do you know? It happened again with Elden Ring and BG3 (granted, the former released a year prior - but still...)

IMO Nintendo doesn't have the talent or the balls to make a good Zelda game anymore. To make something truly great, they would have to break out of their there "family-friendly/kiddy pool" ideology for braindead mainstream appeal and create another MM. But it just isn't going to happen, especially with the Disney-esque direction this company's heading in.

ToTK and the upcoming live-action movie are proof that they no longer care about top-notch quality, they just want that mainstream, normie-slop money.

      >IMO Nintendo doesn't have the talent or the balls to make a good Zelda game anymore
Yes they do. They just need to get rid of the buttholes who've been weighing the series down since 2002 and 2011. At this point, if there's any series that DOES actually deserve a good ol' Shiggy-Dicking, it's Zelda.

Nah, it stems deeper than the lead producer & director managing the Zelda team. It's inherent to their modern design and business philosophies. IMO the only way to save the franchise now, is hand the IP over to a competent third party developer and seeing what they could do with it, but Nintendo would never, they're too arrogant for that and a good title would scrutinize the quality and professionalism of their first-party developer teams.
