This makes it look more like Punova's Shitmurott, when Hisuian Samurott is good specifically because it fixes the original's design flaws.
Hisuian Samurott is great because it looks like no actual living animal, a monster in its own right, and has a clearly recognizable theme that plays into its design elements, while also having an aesthetically pleasing coloration, shape/form, etc.
The original has none of the latter.

People love Oshawott and Piplup, but Piplup never did anything to me and I disliked Oshawott from the start. Meanwhile, Squirtle, Totodile and Mudkip were all in my top of tops. Is it just me or is this “dip” real?
They want Piplup to be the next Togepi after Torchic fully evolved, to the point where it has to swallow an Everstone. And then it got popular and they made another Piplup banking on its success, which failed horribly.
