There is someone that have to explain that shit every time there is an Ankama thread so I might as well be the one to do that. To keep it short : almost everyone in the world of the Twelves is human but they each get blessed by a god a birth so their appearance changes to match that god. So yes, the elves, the blue dudes with horns are humans.

A funny example is the god Enutrof, who is a very ancient greedy dragon. His devotees gather treasures and the more greedy they are, the more they look like old people despite being young.

Was Ecaflip's skill originally actually a gamble? I remember it actually has possible negative effect back when I play it as a kid but a few years back I got into it, every skill becomes basic dmg skill.
Yes. Back then, you had a small chance of skills failing or backfiring.
There still are a couple skills that can go wrong, loke Ekaflip's Tarot. But most are just less damage now.

I played it some time ago, I liked it but with Ankama you have a 50-50 chance they will stop updating it within a year because they don't care about any game other than Dofus/Wakfu

this game has been insanely comfy, Im realizing quickly removing most of the evergreen bullshit and just having tactical combat, pvp, easy UI to add strangers to group to run dungeons is just a better gameplay loop
ive been playing with french/english/SA randos and its been comfy as f*ck
just make sure you dont pick the simple class option when you begin, it only gives you like 5 hero choices instead of the like 40 there is in total

I might check it out if ankama doesn't go full moron with the balance and don't try to israelite people with yet another subscription system, i'd rather pay upfront to play it or have it being free to play.

Oh no there is definitely farming.
You level companions, spells and equipment in a gacha game style system where you find duplicates in chests from drops/leveling/dailies/shops over and over and then pay for the upgrade with kamas.
These upgrades are 1% to attack shit for equipment, damage up for spells and 5% to health and attack for companions, I can see the companion upgrade becoming a necessity if you want them to survive longer than a turn or 2.
Then there is special currencies for each that you use to apply special upgrades like 30% extra damage to a spell which you also get through chests.
None of this matters in the demo yet, there hasn't been a situation where I went "I need to upgrade this thing to win." but this probably matter in the actual endgame.
At least none of this matters in pvp which is level locked and you can use any companion and spell from the getgo.

What makes this different from Wakfu/Dofus? I've always enjoyed homies-on-a-chessboard titles but I've heard some shitty things about their monetization/progression that kept me away.

Also Waven is fun. I'm enjoying it more than Wakfu but i'm still really doubtful about the financial viability of this project. I mean, realistically, as of now, nothing in Waven warrant the tittle of "MMO" and you could make all the PvE content happen off-line with some online multiplayer for Dungeons and PvP. Pretty sure this would also be much cheaper for Ankama.

I hate Ankama. They have a setting that has near Warhammer levels of potential for developing games of all generas and an art team that could mog Disney but they always ALWAYS go for grid based RPGs, horribly balanced grid based RPGs.
Yeah it sucks that they stick to the grid mmos. The question is, can they make the jump to 3D? Or maybe make a cool sidescroller? So many races to play, so much potential. Reminds of Sonic in a way. They can do so much with the cast, and choose not to.

I played one of the two when I was younger, don't remember which one though.

dofus is alive, game is very good too, unless like me you have all classes 200, billions of money and nothing to do
people have been saying this for years and yet Wakfu keeps getting better and better
Dofus is more of a traditional mmo with a lot of quests and content while Wakfu was meant to have a focus on being more of a sandbox with an ecosystem(heavily oversold on that) and government(useless) with originally no quests at all.
Now I don't know what Wakfu is and going back to check is way too much trouble for me since they probably reworked my fricking class again. At least you don't need to pay a subscription to play Wakfu.

Pretty much becoming Dofus 2. Lots of quests and content. Max level is now 230. Crafting is easier, there's pvp (kinda), plenty of dailies for exp, so on.
Everybody dismisses the ecosystem bullshit except for the random Governor fricking around with taxes and max amount of mobs per area just to annoy people.
setting up 5 to 6 traps and blowing up the big enemy with trap chains has been pretty entertaining

I honestly love the grid based combat of dofus, it gives each class a ton of space to flesh out their strategy and combat identity. Unfortunately, without an active community to level with the leveling experience really gets slow and tedius

Looks like you select a class>subclass>skin, but they are all essentially premade character designs.

Actual open beta said to come soon, which is said to not have you lose progress. Not that there's much progress to be made right now, max is 20 and the game outright stops you from playing more with that character once you reach that level.
