We all know it was an underwhelming game, but what happened to the music? The whole score is so forgettable.

I was going to impulsively write a sexist comment about women being untalented, but then I remembered that my beloved wife Yamane-san is a female composer.
The music here isn't really intended to be listened to outside of the game, and it's more so meant to interest a playing mind, rather than interest your mind whilst you're playing, if that makes sense. Ambient music definitely has its place and DKC3 has plenty of good music.
The best DKC3 tracks cant even touch DKC2's lesser tracks.
the bonus theme from DKC3 is the best one in the series and arguably one of the best pieces of music ever written by dave wise; the one from DKC2 is just a slight arrangement of the B section from dk island swing. the DKC1 bonus theme is actually pretty interesting but it doesn't fully develop its melody like the one from 3 does
It's weirder since in my opinion Eveline Fischer had some of the better tracks in the first DKC. Yet her stuff in DKC3 was very underwhelming

This. DKC3 soundtrack isn't amazing but it is WAY more fitting than David Wise's take, even if there are some songs I like more by him. Weird conundrum
Not only was it a great game. But the music is incredible and I find myself thinking about it more than the other games in the series. I didn't care for kiddy kong at first, but now I don't mind. I never had the issue with the crying, because I rarely lost a level.
The GBA version had the entire soundtrack redone by David Wise, so maybe you'll prefer the GBA soundtrack over the SNES one.
Too bad they somehow fricked up the GBA port by swapping the final boss music with the normal boss music for three of the bosses.
I love David Wise

Not even his best track on the album. You know this one would be considered his best song, better than Stickerbrush Symphony, with a better sound chip:
It ain't too complicated. After DKC2 Rare's A-team went on to develop games for the upcoming N64 and the rookies got told to make DKC3. And that includes fresh music guys as well, David Wise didn't work on DKC3's soundtrack.
>Rockface Rumle
It's literally a remix. It's just David Wise's Mining Melancholy with different instruments.
Evelyne Fischer wasn't a rookie, though, she was also involved in DKC1's OST
it has the best bonus theme in the series (written by d wise)
The music in DKC3 made me like dark ambient genre is what happened. DKC2 has better melodies and compositions, but isn't as moody.
Yeah no, the music is good.
DKC 1 and 2 have one of the best OSTs ever
DKC 3 did not reach this level but remains an excellent OST
?si=OIEuMOAEFUnhiafL one the best water level theme
>DKC 1 and 2 have one of the best OSTs ever
DKC1's underwater theme and DKC2's Bramble Blast theme are the best music pieces of the whole trilogy.
Funny trivia about Bramble Blast: since the level is absurdly difficult, the OST composed for that level was deliberately made to be as charming and relaxing as possible to lessen the frustration on the players.
Treetop tumble has stuck with me, love the mood that song has and the forest levels where it plays. Overall the soundtrack is down from the previous game but it's still better than most snes games.
3 is my least favorite of the trilogy, but I still like it anyway.
It's actually a really fun game if you enter the code to make it more difficult and get the max percentage.
The game is too easy without the code. You're not challenged like in DKC and DKC2.
I could never get myself to complete the first world in DKC3. Not even the first couple of levels. But I've beaten 1 and 2 multiple times. Something about 3 I just couldn't get into.
I never understood the hatred for this OST nor the game itself.
It doesn't has a Stickerbush Symphony, Forest Interlude or In A Snowbound Land, but the Boss Boogie, Nuts and Bolts, Pokey Pipes, Enchanted Riverbank and Treetop Tumble are great tracks. I guess it's too gloomy compared to 2.
>I guess it's too gloomy compared to 2.
Really? I usually get the complaint that 3 isn't gloomy enough compared to 1 and 2.
In any case, even if overall the OST of 1 and 2 is better, rockface rumble is one of my favourite pieces of vidya music.
Also gameplay wise 2>3>1.
You're forgetting Frosty Frolics. I love that track. Speaking of which...
The GBA version of Frosty Frolics sucks too.
Really? 3 had my favorite soundtrack of the three.
Just the soundtrack, I want to clarify; the game itself didn't really do it for me.
gba version music mogs the snes version
Three things hold it back.
1) the audio quality sucks ass. This is kind of important when it's, y'know, MUSIC.
2) the loops suck ass. You can be jamming when a groove hit you one second and then be stuck with fifteen hours of animal mating calls as "atmosphere" the next second.
3) the tone sucks ass. Picrel is the posterchild.
