I don't think anyone has the infrastructure to build cities on stilts.
If China did it, the struts would be filled with sawdust, and the whole thing would collapse killing millions.

What boggles the mind is that at least people can imagine countries like china, oil rich arab states, or even eu (if they get their shit together) building that kinda infrastructure. No one would imagine america remotely having the capacity to build modern marvel like that

We can't even build rail roads anymore. Or hyperloops.

we would NEVER build anything like that in the EU, we don't even build skyscrapers because they're fugly and ruin traditional landscapes. They only fit to places where nothing was before

          >we don't even build skyscrapers because they're fugly and ruin traditional landscapes
But building upwards is more efficient because it saves more space. And I thought the eu like efficiency seeing that many eu countries are littered with the various commie blocks

            Anonymous

NTA but skyscrapers are past the point of efficiency due to exponential cost increases of building past 10 stories and elevator logistics. They're phallic compensatory status symbols that are usually full of (now empty) offices or luxury condos that aren't affordable to enough people to fill the tower.

spreading your population and infrastructure evenly across the land like you're buttering toast is a phenomenally inefficient use of resources and energy, and i don't think i even need to point out the ecological and farming impacts of turning the entire surface of your country into suburbs.

after traveling to other countries i'm convinced that every city planner and zoning board member in America deserves to be executed. this suburban sprawl shit is horrible for absolutely everything and almost all of our cities are just gutted lifeless business centers with parking lots for commuters. go to a real city and you'll see how much better it is.
