Ganker is like this with every WoW expansion. When WoD was coming out there were people genuinely hyped that it was a return to old school warcraft and it wouldn't be about gay pandas. People were posting toons on launch, saying WoW boys were eating good and that the leveling experience was the greatest thing in the industry. Then they realized it was a shitty expansion filled with cut content, drip-fed bullshit, and all the actual problems with modern WoW that blizz kept ignoring. People fled in droves, the expansion became universally regarded as the worse.
Couple years later, everyone hyped for Legion, on launch people were saying WoW chads were winning. Then they got a taste of rng legendaries, endless grind, a community that's degenerated into dopamine-chasing addicts, and all the same problems with modern WoW.
Then again with BFA. Same fricking hype cycle, same dumb bullshit and issues.
Shadowlands people were literally on a soapbox saying Torghast was going to be the best feature in WoW- a year later and literally everyone wanted to do anything but go there.
Now Dragonflight and you see people getting hyped again, and you wonder why Diablo Immortal is so greedy with microtransactions or how Blizzard doesn't seem to give a shit about anything the critics have to say.

I guess you didn't play during WoD. They did the same thing (but only a studio if 40 people) and the expansion suffered for it.
The new hires couldn't learn the engine/system fast enough to help in any meaningful way with WoD. It paid off in Legion (great expansion). But if we go pattern of the past, Dragonflight will be as bad or worse than Shadowlands, but the next expansion will be one of the best.
