No, not really. It isn't too lazy or sloppy or low-effort, it just isn't very good.

It feels like an outsourced expansion pack. If you go into it with that mindset you'll enjoy it.

I watched it but agree. Its definitely of good quality although some of it feels too fan made-ish if that makes sense or as you put it, like some outsourced expansion pack.

I dropped it when it wanted me to go back to the lab I literally just left to get gas mask filters. I was already getting irritated with the constant cutscene interruptions but that was the last straw.

      >We basically got a new classic RE game
No we got a fanmade game. Is every Doom wad or mario world rom hack a "basically new game"?

This. Its very faithful to the original Resident Evil games in that its full of fricking tedious backtracking to recycle the same room endlessly.

      >Constant dialogue and cutscenes
      >Notes telling you to go somewhere two screens away, which is also the only place you can even go anyways
      >Loaded down with tons of guns and ammo
      >Almost every encounter can be completely avoided by just ignoring the enemy and going on your way
      >Hodegpodge of PS1 and PS2 prerender backgrounds and shitty full 3d models, all from different games and environments
      >Go through a metal door, wood door loading screen, go down outdoor stone steps, loading screen is mansion steps
      >Laughable visuals at times
      >Boss fights can be won first try by atanding in place and just blasting them
      >Characters are obnoxious
      >Music badly cued and just cuts or repeats randomly
No offense to the guy who made it, but if you're going to shill it as a new classic RE, it's going to be shit on.
He put the work in to complete these, he can go the extra mile to actually make it good. You can get the original instruments used in RE for 9 dollars a month and make new tracks that will fit perfectly, you can make new doors or somehow change the colors of shit to make them fit
You can cue and fade the music and sound effects properly
You can fix the enemy and boss positions in the environment to actually be a challenge
Do more playtests and balance the amount of ammos and shit you receive to not be ridiculously overkill
Less cutscenes, every little thing doesn't need to be shouted in your ear, and lore shit most people don't care about waa explained in memos for a reason
Games have pacing and progression, apply that properly
Characters don't need cringe names like 'Ghost' and shouldn't... talk... like... this... for excessively long periods of time
New content should have some new cool ideas that aren't gimmicky, offer something interesting
Resident Evil is a game, not just some vehicle for some shitty story and item collecting in corridors

Oh yeah this too, its a hack job.

Used from RE, Onimusha, DMC, Dino Crisis, etc.
Also full of characters referencing other games like MGS and nerd culture jokes... for some reason.

judging by these posts i might want to skip this, which is sad because i could always use more old-school survival horror. but it seems too boring. since Alisa did custom pre-renders well i wish RE modders could make maps of their own too.

He committed to it and pretty much finished it {some doors said they weren!ct finished yet so you can't go there yet, but whatever}, so that's more than the vast majority accomplisg, but now he needs to take it to the next level and actually make it good You can pretty much do a no damage run on your first playthrough, the dialogue ruins the atmosphere, and stuff like the stealth areas are piss easy plus not fun or new at all, so some major changes need to be made to the base game, but let's hope he does it.

        Roland Cloud
You get the synthesizers and patches made to make many, many retro games including Squaresoft games like Final Fantasy, etc. as well as movies and tv shows, plus a shitload of other instruments for like 9 dollars a month (depending on your country). Load up the Sound Canvas or something like the JV1080 and they have the exact sounds used in over 1000 games. Anybody making retro games or who just wants to arrange or frick around should be using stuff like that.

the d-50 and the jv1080 are the goats of 90s soundtrack synths. the dx7 is from the 80s but it also works.

            Anonymous

Yeah, they are based. Was really crazy to find out so many games, Hollywood productions and number one music hits worldwide used presets from their synths as-is without even changing anything.

            Anonymous

The D-50 is also from the 80s, just 4 years after the DX7. Its synthesis combined tiny PCM prerecorded samples with digital oscillators, which was a big deal compared to the straight digital oscillators of the DX7. This method was also used in the Roland MT series, many of whose sounds ended up in Windows sound fonts of the 1990s.

Based. PCM was the height of sound design to me and it's a shame that now we have almost everything made for Kontakt with samples that cost 500-1000 and they sound like shit and most are strings which sound like shit or hybrid synth shit that all sound similar.

What is it with indiegays trying so hard to shoehorn spoken dialogue into their shit these days?
Stop plugging, you're not a fricking voice actor.

Yeah, the girls voice is very cringe in this game and ruins the atmosphere, plus one guy, I think Hunk, isn't recorded properly at all and you can hear the reverb of the room he recorded in almost as loud as his voice, even when he's supposed to be outdoors.

I stumbled across a youtube series awhile back with the guy who programmed the synths for most of the tracks on Thriller. I have practically 0 musical knowledge or ability but it was really cool watching him walk through all the steps they used to get the specific sounds they wanted and how they tweaked dials and sliders to get them just right. He had a huge wall mounted unit that used physical patch cords between ports to create different effects too. That one was my favorite piece of gear.

In this case it actually fits very well considering RE1's awful voice acting. This mod being a fan prequel to that game taking place in its same locations.

I just realized how cancerous this gere was. It paved the way for "movie games". It was the beginning of prioritzing story and visuals over gameplay. Tank controls for pseudo 3D environments, really lame gunplay and limited ammo are basically the opposite of fun.

There is quite a few issues with the expansion, even if I appreciate some elements.
      The Pros
      >Tons of cool fanservice (using the one unused elevator, expanding on background details in the caves, adding in cut elements like the tower and boathouse, etc.)
      >New FMVs!
      >Getting to explore the front of the mansion a bit
That's about it. It's a big one, since essentially all of one episode is just cool new shit, but there are a lot more negatives.
      The Negatives
      >Forced, awkward stealth sections that reset you back to the main menu (and you have to do the ones in the Final Chapter twice in a row every time)
      >Oppressively linear most of the time- game will always direct you on where to go instead of naturally having the player unlock things
      >Tying into the above, too many cutscenes that are unskippable
      >Reliance on fetch quests- get the Air Filter, get the Crank, get the Medikit, get the medicine, that shit drives every episode and it sucks
      >Too many instances of bosses locking you in their room right when you get there, so if you don't know it's a boss- you're screwed (plant-42 especially is a fricking broken boss)
      >Items don't carry over between episodes, making inventory management pointless
      >REmake inclusions just bug me personally- I've always found Lisa Trevor inherently silly, so seeing her in RE1 and having her scream "Mother!" when you put her down was just too much
      >Ending is shit, but I assume the ending in the release version isn't the best one- the back door behind the stairs seems to be the true ending

All in all, I appreciate the ambition, but it has far too many base level issues, the same issues I had with Gaiden or Survivor in terms of progression oddly enough. Maybe working on the remakes of those burned Aydan out on good game design (Ada's Mode suffers from these issues too though).

      It's on the devs honestly.
There's a warning to "be careful" in the room, but you take two steps in and you get locked inside to die. It's a moronic instant kill for an RE game, even a fanmade one.

I actually like this room design better than the original. I also liked how the guardhouse was covered in vegetation as well as the underground area with the bridge. The mansion being dark was great it made it much spookier without having to resort to turning it into Castlevania. This should have been in the original in fact in some way and they could have had it so you must restore power to the mansion to brighten it up again. Could have been good to change things up for the return trip to the mansion.

I think this thread has been way too harsh on what is essentially just a fan made mod. The gameplay video I watched of it told me its an exceptional mod worth playing even if maybe its true they can improve in certain areas of the mod. What they made though should be commended as great.

having since beat it, i do think it's alright. i appreciate the effort gone into it in adding new areas, elements from REmake and scrapped content from RE1 original like the lighthouse. i'm not enthusiastic enough to replay the final chapter, but it seems it gave the player a second option on how to escape, so that's cool too if that's a whole different route (though since it's going back through the mansion/lab, i assume there isn't many new areas to see unlike going on the front door). the voice acting was cheesy which isn't a bad thing, although having the Ink Ribbon youtuber guy whose like probably in his late 20s voicing an old balding researcher was a fair bit ill-matched beyond the usual old RE voice acting cheese.

        WHAT were they THINKING!
is there a note that gives the solution to this that i missed? i've just been trial and error-ing this bit before giving up and going to watch someone else solve it on youtube

was initially frustrating until i remembered my frick up, but one insta-kill part that was legitimately annoying was the sneaking by the soldiers section near the end, specifically a part where you have to sneak past 2 soldiers that are circling the area. their viewcones seem very strict and hard to process, there were points where i'd get caught and i couldn't tell if it was the one who had his back to me, or the one who was on the complete other side of the area, but somehow one of them still saw me.
the last "boss" fight against Hunk was a bit of a wet fart too. it was certainly no RE4 remake knife fight with Krauser.
it was a commendable enough effort and i enjoyed it enough to finish it so the modder did a good job. i'd be looking forward to if he ever finishes his RE Survivor and RE Gaiden projects.

The version I played didn't let you take the second route behind the stairs, it said it's not ready yet, so anyone who wants to replay to try it might want to check if their version has that available, since the only thing possible was the front of the mansion sneaking part.

I actually like this room design better than the original. I also liked how the guardhouse was covered in vegetation as well as the underground area with the bridge. Died twice here, thought it was BS and just looked up the right thing to do (find the researcher)

in all seriousness, nice game overall, as a fan since 1996 it's the only full scale expansion I ever played, yes it's rough around some edges but has some nice ideas, and I was genuinely creeped out going around the darkened mansion... the guardhouse episode is a bit of a step down and I just started the final episode but definitely not as interested as when I was playing the earlier episodes. I'll probably finish the whole thing eventually but I haven't been as impressed as I was in episode 2 for a while.
