We can kiss Starfield 2 goodbye

This is why we can't have new IP. No way MS will fund another starfield. Even the piece of shit The Outer Worlds got more recognition than this.
Todd will now go back to the salt mines and only make Elder Scrolls and Fallout games.

Space is the most well explored genre in the entire gaming portfolio.
The first game ever made was a space game, and it was a multiplayer one that had gravity simulation and all that stuff and starfield failed to add anything new to the genre, as its basically impossible at this point.
You probably have to do something for a niche like a good gundam game or something to thrive.

hers an idea for a new space game

give me one year and i could probably learn how to make that in unity and put it up on steam. give it some freelancer side quests and shit. its that easy to make a fun game because games aren't art. these fart smelling buttholes forgot that. they think games are high tier artsy fartsy crap like movies ~~*lol @ Hollywood crashing and burning*~~

Starfield is a management failure. Todd failed to spread the load of decision-making properly and so no-one was at the helm.

Also Pagliarulo is a cancer and needs to go.

Bethesda is still capable of great things but they need a full restructure to do it. Elements of starfield (thinking about the art team) are incredible.

      >art

That's literally the easiest part. Just hire artists, and done. Crafting rich and interesting gameplay, writing entertaining quests, developing interesting and complex NPCs and companions, inventing a rewarding gameplay loop to keep the player engaged and eager to continue, those are the hard parts, and that is where Bethesda has been slowly failing for nearly two decades now.

Agreed the rest of the game was shit but I'm not going to pretend making a cohesive visual aesthetic that looks as good as starfield would have been easy. There's a lot of uninspired AAA visuals out there, and the last thing I expected from Bethesda was graphical fidelity OR a tolerable artstyle. Their art Dept really outshone every other team

I don't think Todd really expected Starfield to give him Skyrim sales, this feels like some personal project that had the unfortunate expectations and budget of a mainline AAA game of some already established franchise, it was always going to be a risk in one way or another. Now that he got it out of his system then TES 6 can be good right?

Nope. It's genuinely over. TES VI will be made for people who think starfield was a great game. Even if they were capable of learning a lesson, I don't think they're actually any good at designing gameplay, lore, story, characters, and now even environments. Fallout 4 was excessively mediocre, 76 was terrible, Starfield was even worse. Starfield was the most boring game I've ever played.

I do not believe anyone with any actual talent works at Bethesda anymore. We've seen what they put their hearts and souls into, and it was the most bland and worthless garbage I've ever had refunded. I still feel cheated that I wasted my time on it waiting for it to get good.

Starfield is a genuine massive improvement over their previous games in every single aspect. The main problem is that the space travel being fragmented into multiple loading screen made people hate the game. ES6 will just return back to normal bethesda formula so it wont face any of the same issues starfield had.

There was NO excuse for Starfield being that shitty. If the game engine(Creation Engine) was that shitty, they could have used a far better engine, brought in extra help to learn the new engine, or the Creation Engine developers could have just fricking told the new engine developers what to do. No surprise there. Starfield is Bethesda in its most pure form. The people who made TES in 94-96 were long gone by the time Todd was able to gain control of the company. They can only make the same game over and over because everyone there is a hack.

  58. 5 months ago

It had nothing to do with it being a new IP, and everything to do with being an overambitious, poorly coded piece of trash. Scaling up open worlds is always a bad idea, whether it's in space or on the ground, devs need to learn that quality is better than quantity and especially so when it comes to playable gamespace.

Starfield could have been a truly good game, but in another engine.

I remember someone in the dev team saying you could invade other people ships while on the ground, and there would be a chance the ship would take off with you inside. Once the game launched, everyone was mocking Starfield and saying they lied, but this actually happens, you can invade some pirate ship, and the sounds from the gunfight will make the pilot panic and take off, it's a really cool moment, but its a moment ruined by loading screens.

This is the greatest problem with Starfield, lots of cool tech, like ship building, ballistic weapons having recoil in zero G while lasers lack recoil, ships taking off with you inside. But the lack of seamless loading really hurts the experience.

Planets being divided into tiny grids, not being to land your ship manually, space travel being just fast travel instead of being free travel like Elite dangerous, no vehicles, no EVA, this is all because the engine cannot handle seamless loading.

If the game had full seamless loading, with Elite dangerous levels of space travel, Starfield would be the best space game in the market right now, no other game would have the technology necessary to deliver Elite Dangerous free space exploration and Starfield planetary dungeon exploration. But alas, the creation engine killed this game in the cradle.

Bethesda is never going to abandon this engine because modding brings money, but at this point they have to accept, the only thing they can do is ES and Fallout until the end of time, this engine is incapable of doing anything else.

      >you can invade some pirate ship, and the sounds from the gunfight will make the pilot panic and take off, it's a really cool moment, but its a moment ruined by loading screens
This happens to me, I shoot the pirates, run into the cargo hold, the ship doesn't take off until I run back off, the doors start closing, I run back in, it takes off and at some point I go flying out of the hold and fall to my death

        Anonymous

I think if you sneak or just rush for the door while ignoring the guys walking around the ship, the door will be unlocked. For whatever reason, fighting the npcs outside the ship will cause the hangar door to lock 80% of the time.

I don't even know why people are excited for ES6, everywhere I go people have this feeling of "it's going to be shit, mods will fix", and I just don't get, why hope for a game that you already know will just disappoint you? At this point I think it would be genuinely better for Bethesda to just close the doors.

    >new IP
he just took fallout 4 and added space content, it wouldn't surprise me if the game began as DLC for fallout 4

    >This is why we can't have new IP
Because they made a bad game? You better not be implying this is the consumer's fault. If the product is subpar, the consumer is correct in not buying it. Tell your handlers to do better next time, Bethshill.

SF is their best game since Fallout 3. With the caveat that Fallout 76 isn't their game, since it's meat is mostly made up by non-bethesda writers hired by BGS Austin. BGS Maryland also held the game and its team in contempt thorugh its development which makes me think is one of its greatest strength, since they had more freedom, and also the reason why most of its new lore additions are much better than what Bethesda fallouts did with stuff like the institute, which is a rehash of enclave, and developing the BoS into a highly unrealistic version of the original BoS, and proceeding to stuff them in each of their fallout IPs.
