w101 really doesn't have all purpose combos, nearly all the morphs have a use
requiring you to get good at drawing shapes in order to effectively switch weapons under pressure is part of the skill based execution the game requires >qte gimmick shit constantly
qtes in actual combat can only be initiated by you reacting to a cut in when the enemy does a specific attack, you're never forced to do them and even then they're always just mashing which is fine and even adds to the immersion
Na, it’s shit, because if an enemy is in a section of the map that you can’t see, the only option is to move towards them, which can get you hit if they’re attacking.
You’re ignoring the point to yap about inconsequential shit. The enemy design forces you to use a weapon just to make the enemy vulnerable to your other abilities, at which point they are combo fodder for whatever you want. The whipe peg goes in the spike whole is baby design

>Na, it’s shit, because if an enemy is in a section of the map that you can’t see, the only option is to move towards them, which can get you hit if they’re attacking.
this is true in other action games, with the wonderful 101 it's less of a problem because the enemies have very distinct audio tells for offscreen attacks and the arenas are large enough that you can maneuver an enemy back in view without risking damage
w101 is definitely more of a hit and run game anyway, you should never be too close to enemies for too long otherwise you will get hit, you're not supposed to play it like bayonetta >at which point they are combo fodder for whatever you want
there's rarely an opportunity where you can just wail on an enemy without another one coming to rape your ass, and juggles are much more involved in w101 and you can't just juggle one dude and ignore the rest even if you manage to pull it off
it sounds like you never played on the higher difficulties which throw much more dangerous groups of enemies at you at the same time

Mentioning audio tells concedes that the camera will be an issue, and the arenas can often be small, such as the fights on the plane vs the pink alien dude. And the game being hit and run focused make the camera a bigger issue, because you’ll be pulling the camera away from the enemies more often

audio tells are one of the most important thing in any good action game because you react to audio faster than visuals, and you can't pay attention to every enemy visually at once at all times under the types of conditions these games put you in
the camera is MORE of an issue in other games where you can't zoom it out and constantly have to wrangle it to see what's attacking you instead of it just sitting further out and letting you see everything
vorkken has some of the most telegraphed attacks in the game, there's never a reason you should be getting hit by his shit if you're paying attention and I don't know what you're talking about because his entire ship is in view of the camera for 90% of the fight
do you not even know you can control the camera's zoom level?

We were having a discussion about the camera specifically. Bringing up the audio tells is inconsequential, unless it’s to cover for the fact that the camera is a problem at times. In other games, I may have to manage the camera, but I can actually track the enemies. And it’s been a while, I don’t remember if the zoom out was sufficient or not, but the arena definitely isn’t entirely in camera in any of the screenshots. I wouldn’t be getting hit as often if I wasn’t impatiently trying to chase the enemy that has gone offscreen. Same shit with Hades. It’s an annoying system

You're also ignoring that w101 has ukemi, which means even if you get hit if you have good timing you negate your damage and preserve your rank anyway (outside of the secret missions)
audio tells are important even if the camera for the game was perfect and dismissing them as some kind of "cover for the camera" is complete nonsense
I don't know why you're calling this an issue for w101 of all things when it's way more of a problem in something like bayonetta which is much more frantic

I’m not dismissing their importance for the game (they’re good design, obviously), I’m dismissing their relevance to this conversation. I said the camera creates issues, and you said BUT AUDIO CUES AND UKEMI.
I bring it up because the inherent camera issues necessitate character movement to address them in game, and I hate it. I’d rather move the camera when the camera doesn’t work for me. You wouldn’t, and that’s fine, but I’m just explaining why I didn’t like the game after some autist seethed

I'm telling you that what you're complaining about exists in prison literally every other 3d action game, and usually it's much worse of a problem
because of how the game is laid out even if an enemy goes off screen in w101 it's much simpler to keep a mental note of where they are and what they're doing
the audio cues and ukemi aren't irrelevant because they're cohesive to the whole design, even if you get tagged by some shit it doesn't matter when you can react and negate the damage or hear it coming beforehand whereas in something like bayonetta you can just get gibbed out of nowhere while trying to frantically dodge 10 attacks at once and suddenly your whole rank is ruined

I don’t give a shit about the bandaids. Other games have such band aids as well, just like Bayo, which you keep mentioning. I care about the direct consequences of the camera system, which is that I have to move my character towards the enemy to see them, as opposed to moving the camera. That feels like shit to me, particularly in a 1v1 fight like the Vorkken battles. I don’t want to have to wait for his audio cues because he ran off screen and he may start to attack as ai’m trying to get him back on screen. I shouldn’t have trouble tracking a single enemy in a fight, but I do because of the isometric camera. If if you’re fine with that, good for you, but quit being an autist in my direction

Astral Chain not only has good gameplay but it would still stand as a videogame if you replaced the anime artsyle with a non-anime one; something like modern Capcom art style.
A real anime game has its anime artstyle and anime writing and absolutely nothing else going on for it
Calling Astral Chain "an anime game" does Astral Chain a huge disservice.
Black person anime is an art style not a genre
astral chain is an anime game because the artstyle is anime. just because there's a lot of japslop doesn't mean everything with the same artstyle is shit.
No, it's literally a genre.
Anime games are games intended to replicate anime feelings on their audience; to achieve that objective they focus on the artsyle and writing while not putting any effort into gameplay (because due to its interactive nature gameplay doesn't exist on anime).
Calling Astral Chain an anime game is extremely disrespectful of Astral Chain.

Anime games are bad by default (from a videogame standpoint) because their aim is to replicate anime feelings on the audience, mostly through waifus, not giving it a good videogame.
Now, an anime game being a good or bad anime game is a valid question. It boils down to how well it gives anime feelings to the audience with minimal annoyance.
