Great series, all the entries are great. Vanilla versions are all superior though

True, but FES is 99% vanilla P3 with only minor tweaks like not being able to enter Monad without taking out the Reaper. All the awful Re-release girl shit is basically on an entirely seperate campaign so you leave the original game pure and if you really want you can enter the new stuff separately. Golden and Royal should have been like this.

What's shitty about it? They're all well received JRPGs with questionable decisions on the upgraded version. All 6 games fall in that camp (most Atlus games fall in that camp)
Royal content is the only reason anyone should ever think about playing P5. Vanilla is trash and I'm so glad Hashino is shitting up Refantasy instead of P6.
Royal is trash. Abloo bloo muh villain with a noble intention. But it doesn't actually fit the rest of the story and is just a weird aside hamfisted halfway through the ending. Also terrible gameplay that breaks the game

P5R by any metric doesn't take less than at least 95 hours to get to the ending let alone 100%ing it.
They are too long and not fun long like dragon quest but "ill make you lose time with these meaningless dialogues for hours" long.
I'm aware that this is a VN with JRPG sprinklers on it but it shouldn't be this way.

Imagine complaining about more hours to play in an RPG. Sounds like you got filtered. I was able to beat Persona FES while still in high school at the time and still get my homework done. the only problem I ever ran to is that since I didn't know how long cutscenes were, there were times I was late by an hour to go to bed because I had to wait for a cutscene to finish so I can save my game.

It's already too late for that at this point, but it doesn't really bother me because I mostly just play those games for the demon collecting and the life sim parts. The story is just there to give me the illusion that I'm doing all that for some greater purpose.

Quickly becomes braindead easy, especially with the pre-installed DLC. Dialogue is too bloated. Still really satisfying to play and is the only Atlus game ever that actually feels triple-A. Great soundtrack. Love the Velvet room challenges.

Sort of a good deal for $20, you’re basically getting 2 different games, and the fighting game is pretty fully-fledged. Unfortunately, the (literal) visual novel suffers badly from fanfic-tier writing and is in general much, much longer than it needs to be to tell its story. Soundtrack is forgettable.

lmao no, the online hasn't been functional since launch and their updates did nothing to fix the problem. it took them months to figure out how to add a fricking volume slider to the game. stop giving atlus money.
Online works for me. But the games simple auto-combos and the auto-combos getting in the way of you doing things killed the fighting game for me.

3 really nailed the mid-aughts edge in a way few other properties managed, that and it being brand new as far as the series in concerned made it incredibly novel.
4 took it in a vastly different direction, being pretty lighthearted in tone most of the time with only a few especially dark moments. That said, it was still a solid entry, though the magic had worn off.
5 just didn't have anything. 5 felt like they were trying to ape the feeling of 3 with the tone of 4 while masking it all in this veneer of "punk" style. And don't get me wrong, the menus, the music, the battle screen, they all have that "style" but when you look past it the game's just pretending to be what it wants to be. All the edges are sanded off to the point where even the P4-like tone breaks fall flat. Plus by this point the calendar system just feels superfluous, it did in 4 as well but them continuing it while simultaneously devaluing it even further hurts it so much more.
5 is a heist movie, the entire game is styled after Lupin the 3rd (and the original Arsene Lupin for that matter). It marries both the sim and dungeon crawling where all social links are intricately interconnected with your ability to crawl in the dungeon beyond minor exp and stat buffs. The way the social links play out, where they don't start as your friends but rather contracts of mutual ill-gotten gain and over the course of it become a true social link reverberate better than the old links ever did and tie into the ultimate message of the game that making connections is the true way to change the world.
