No, it's fine being a mega evolution since they should be in every mainline game; it was a mistake to not include them just like dexit as a whole was a mistake.

Fixes:
1. Retcon the OP Mega Pokemon to be sidegrades instead of upgrades, if the original was already OP.
2. Take all the two-Mega Pokemon, do polls to decide which ones people like better, then delete the alternate Why there's two Charizards, I'll never know.
3. Give Mega forms to a bunch of the shitmons probably just the popular ones, t.b.h., bringing their stats up to a nearly-competitive level.
4. Ease off on the lore about Mega forms suffering, even if it means making some highly-marketable bracelet/necklace that the stones fit into that "control" the power better.
5. New gen gimmick can either be a mechanic to make Mega forms into an actual permanent evolution, or make the Mega stone equippable in a special non-hold slot.
Really weird that they'd go through all this trouble of making a generally-liked mechanic like Mega evolutions, make a bunch of random Pokemon viable for the first time ever, then shelve the whole thing and make a bunch of Pokemon 100% useless again.
Same with gender differences, Egg Moves, and baby Pokemon, I guess. Real big shame there's all these mechanics that might be more useful or interesting with some tweaks and more content, then just dump all that for nothing.
Side note, I wish all Pokemon had an equip slot and a hold slot, the equip slot would be for all the actual "equipment" type stuff like Mega stones and the lenses, helmets, boots, whatever, and the hold slot would be for berries and such.
It'd at least make held items a bit more viable in general, plus I don't know how it makes sense that wearing a vest means you can't hold a berry.
I just don't understand why they thought giving something like Garchomp, Tyranitar, Salamence, Metagross a mega is a good thing. Like why no Dragonite or Hydreigon mega too while you're at it?
Hydreigon didn’t get one because it’s too new and idea for a Mega Dragonite would have been turned into an extra mega for CHARIZARD anyway.

Honestly Goodra should have get one. Like it's so ironic that the Kalos starters and pseudo never get mega in a region with mega gimmick. After I look it up, only Diancie get mega.

mega evolution shouldn't have been in ANY games, it was a terrible idea.
It shouldn't have been, but to retain these designs, they (And the unique Dynamaxes) should've become normal forms instead, balanced appropriately.
It's better as a Mega, in that way I can abuse limber too
