nta but i didn't like infernape either, until gen 4 i was only playing fire starters, this made me go for the plant one
also having another fire/combat after blaziken was too much
I like the ape. I watched tons of Journey to the West as a kid and I really like the Monkey King, which seems to be their biggest inspiration.
nta but i didn't like infernape either, until gen 4 i was only playing fire starters, this made me go for the plant one
also having another fire/combat after blaziken was too much
Honestly yeah I don't even have nostalgia for gen 4 but I can't help but agree. >Gen 1 venusaur looks uglier than the previous evos >Gen 2 has the shitty chicorita line >Gen 3 sceptile look worse than grovile
They're really cute, then they became really cool. Gen 4 has the best final evolution.
My only complaint is that their 2nd/mid evolution (or whatever the term for those) are pretty lame, but overall it's a very solid starter lineup.
Three and seven are the best. I love all of them.
Four is the weakest for me. Every other generation has at least one stand-out starter that I really like, but none of the Sinnoh trio appeal to me all that much. And Platinum was my first game.
I should also add that I mostly just care about the fully-evolved forms, but they're cute as little guys, too.
>1.
Okay Bulbasaur, you know a pond frog dinosaur thing, with Charmander as a salamander with a cool ember thing on his tail. Squirtle as a cute turtle, pretty cool.
>2.
Okay so they went with a more veggie-looking leafy thing, it's cute and looks planty, like the bud things around its neck. I guess the fire starter is still a dragon but with more fire? And hey a crocodile, cool water concept.
>3.
A leafy gecko? Alright they're switching up the grass starters and he looks cool. Also everybody loves mudkip hehe a mudskipper for a water starter. Damn a fire chicken, really switching it up, no more dragon guys as fire starters. Seems alright.
>4.
Okay so they threw Squirtle in as a grass type, a grass turtle is cool, same for the penguin, good idea. But what the frick is that fire monkey? Why is it brapping fire? What?
Torchic is a cute but its evos are garbage >Combuskin is literally a penis with balls >Blaziken is a fursuit trash
my ex-girlfriend's favorite was Blaziken so I hate it more for this reason
>Humanoid furry creature >not appealing to furries

furries fap to dragons, dogs and cats much more than monkeys

you called Blaziken furbait, but it was intentionally designed as ugly, and it's populariity in art has more to do with the emerging fetish art industry at the time and lack of overall humanoid pokemon than it being designed as furbait like gen 7's cat evo, or gen 6's fox one.

i think you're the moron that doesnt understand what the phrase humanoid is
Gen 3, no questions asked. Its first form designs are iconic and original, its second form designs show a cool development beyond "first form but bigger" and already shows secondary typings, while its third form designs are all impressive enough to warrant training your starter for so long. It also helps that they are good gameplay wise (and even competitively to some extent), and that each of them had an exclusive move in gen 3 that was directly based on their design.
Torchic is more original than most of the other first forms. Sure, a firery looking chick isn't the most original design ever, but first form fire types starters have it bad. >Cyndaquil and Chimchar copy Charmander's flame tail design. At least Cyndaquil manages to look cool with how over the top the flames are. Chimchar, however, isn't much better than Torchic otherwise >Tepig is literally just a pig >Fennekin is a Vulpix ripoff >Litten is literally just a cat >Scorbunny is original, but doesn't look much like a fire type
It is trash, but it's original trash. They should've really put more effort into making it look like a fire type rather than put all the effort into the sport gimmick design
i dont think cynadquil copied anything, it has fire quills, not a firey tail. and that firey quills are the main design emphasis of the evolutionary line
Otherwise using fire in any aspect of a pokemon is copying Charmander
I'm mostly counting it as "stick a flame on its tail and call it a fire type" that many fire types suffer from. Cyndaquil's design is still good because they went all out with the flames and made it look cool. It always did dissapoint me that the flames get toned down as Cyndaquil evolves, making Quilava and Typhlosion look far more subdued than they should be tbh.

it's so weird that gen 1's starters have a theme of being amphibious creatures, like, it doesn't really come up because the concept of themes weren't really considered back then, this is more an accidental theme, but it still surprises me that it lines up.
I will always forever be mad that Croconaw/Feraligatr aren't Water/Dark when it would have worked as a fantastic advertisement for the new type introductions in gen 2.
>A recently translated blurb from Pokémon artist Ken Sugimori, the man who designed the Hoenn starters, has revealed that the now iconic Blaziken was meant to disappoint fans. Sugimori stated that his intention was for the fire starter’s final evolution to be “fierce and hard to look at,” in stark contrast to its adorable first form, Torchic. Rather than enjoying the starter’s growth from chibi chick to roundhouse rooster, it was Sugimori’s intent for trainers to feel a sense of disappointment and loss at seeing such a cute Pokémon turn into something so menacing.
It's funny how theres nearly 8,000 images on the most popular aggregate furry website for Blaziken now when he was intentionally meant to be ugly.
fierce and menacing /= ugly
an intentionally ugly Pokémon would be something like Kyurem Black, since the idea is that it's an incomplete and impure monster
Gen 4 is overrated zoomer garbage.
Turtwig line is just shitty Bulbasaur
Chimchar line is overdesigned Naruto cringe
Piplup line is the best but 3rd evo arms are impractical and stupid and it’s too human like there’s a reason Piplup was the gen mascot and not a 3rd evo like Charizard
Gen 3 has objectively the best starter trio. Most of the early gens have good starters, but there's usually a weaker link. Like how the Johto starters are all good, but Chikorita is clearly the worst, even though its still decent.
Treeko, Torchic, and Mudkip are all superb designs, to the point where there really isnt a wrong choice. You could be randomly given any one and be completely happy with it
what is it with these latest modern gens having starters with promising first and sometimes second evos then completely shitting the bed with the final stage
Bulbasaur got me laid so I have to stay loyal to the bulb.
Gen 4 has the best fully-evolved trio.
I'd say this but I want to frick a fennekin doesnt matter what evolution
Empoleon will forever be my homie.
Not with Infernape around
I like the ape. I watched tons of Journey to the West as a kid and I really like the Monkey King, which seems to be their biggest inspiration.
still mogged by blaziken, especially when it come right after
Blaziken's biggest problem was it suffered from SFMA syndrome, which got fixed by speed boost.
>t. 24 year old
Whats the correlation between being 24 and being correct? Thats pretty specific?
There is none. Zoomers are moronic though.
Only a specific era of zoomer thinks Gen 4 is any good.
Yep Sinnoh mogs
Patrician taste. Second best is gen 1. Best base forms are gen 1 followed by 6.
As much as I like gen 5 the starters are trash.
/Thread, spbp, shut down the internet now.
Cope
nta but i didn't like infernape either, until gen 4 i was only playing fire starters, this made me go for the plant one

Also I don't care about the starter designs after gen 4 they all got worse and worse that's why I didn't even bother rating them.
They're really cute, then they became really cool. Gen 4 has the best final evolution.
My only complaint is that their 2nd/mid evolution (or whatever the term for those) are pretty lame, but overall it's a very solid starter lineup.
Still never was a fan of Empoleons line, but it grew on me over the years
For me, it's gen three.
why is rowlet even part grass
everything past 4 looks terrible
Gen 1 is nostalgia, but gen 3 is probably the best
Three and seven are the best. I love all of them.
Four is the weakest for me. Every other generation has at least one stand-out starter that I really like, but none of the Sinnoh trio appeal to me all that much. And Platinum was my first game.
I should also add that I mostly just care about the fully-evolved forms, but they're cute as little guys, too.
im surprised torterra gets so little love. i love the land creature trope. really liked them in the detective pikachu movie.
he's just wrong, Bara furryshit Incineroar is one of the worst fire starters of all time.
Infernape clears incenroar, torterra is a G and empolean has excellent design even if penguins dont land for me as a starter animal
If It's not humanoid or a waifu the modern pokemon fan doesn't like it
2 or 4
I have seen so much porn of these things you wouldn't believe
Where's the weedcat?
>1.

>8.
What happened?
>But what the frick is that fire monkey
It's a journey to the west fighting monkey what is there not to get?
>gen 6-9 are shit
>gen 5 is worse gen 4
>gen 4 is worse gen 3
>gen 2 is worse gen 1
Your answer should be 1 or 3.
I want to frick Blaziken so gen 3
Both incredibly based
Gen 3 is the best. The final evos genuinely all look badass.
Gen 3 has a total absence of SOVL, it's peak early 2000s cringe, everything after gen 4 is trash as well, except the fire pig from gen 5.
Gen 7, cause Primarina is sex incarnate
Out of the first three gens I like 3 the best. From gen 4 and onwards I always boxed the starter because I didn't like any of them.
3>2>1, Blastoise fricked up Wartortle but it's still cool.
Best grass starter line is Rowlet.
Best fire starter line is Torchic.
Best water starter line is Totodile.
I cant imagine anyone looking at this and not saying 3. Maayyyybbbeeeee 4 if considering fully evolved starters
1 > 3 > 2 > The rest
Gen 3 has the best fully-evolved trio.
yeah, im thinking im based
personally, for me its pic related.
In scarlet I also went grass.
grass pokemon just been the best lately
Damn starters really peaked in the first 4 gens and have been shit since huh
gen3>gen2=gen1>gen4>>>>>>>gen6>gen5> what the frick was that
gen 3 or 2 if they didn't make meganium complete shit
but i like that gay moronic dino
Gen1 gave us three cool kaijus
everything else were made to be plushies (not a bad thing) but they lack the cool 90s aesthetics
1 2 3 4
Gen 3, 6 and 7 I think.
Special shout out to 4 only for Infernape
>hating on Torchic
Torchic is a cute but its evos are garbage
>Combuskin is literally a penis with balls
>Blaziken is a fursuit trash
my ex-girlfriend's favorite was Blaziken so I hate it more for this reason
remove infermape/all of gen 6 if you really hate "Furbait" shit
Idc what you think, Sun Wukong always gets a free pass in my book. Best fire/fighting and it's not even close
>infernape
>not furbait
lol
>real life monkeys are furbait
>Humanoid furry creature
>not appealing to furries
furries fap to dragons, dogs and cats much more than monkeys

lmao moron
i think you're the moron that doesnt understand what the phrase humanoid is
infernape's not furbait
Gen 2. I like pretty much all of them, apart from Gen 5. I feel only Samurott actually looks good.
>blastoise
>torterra
>torkoal is a 1 stage pokemon and not a starter
nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Empoleon, my king.
That's an Emperor
>Zoomers think this is a good design
have a nice day you worthless greentexting attention prostitute b***h.
Oh my god you actually got upset because I made fun of your gay penguin? Wow, talk about embarrassing.
actually, you being a gay israelite is what set him off
Why is ever Pokemon sigin9f9cant more rounder and disproportionate from gen 3 and up?
Gen 3, no questions asked. Its first form designs are iconic and original, its second form designs show a cool development beyond "first form but bigger" and already shows secondary typings, while its third form designs are all impressive enough to warrant training your starter for so long. >are original
well torchic has a word with you anyways, but otherwise correct
Torchic is more original than most of the other first forms. Sure, a firery looking chick isn't the most original design ever, but first form fire types starters have it bad.
>Cyndaquil and Chimchar copy Charmander's flame tail design. At least Cyndaquil manages to look cool with how over the top the flames are. Chimchar, however, isn't much better than Torchic otherwise
>Tepig is literally just a pig
>Fennekin is a Vulpix ripoff
>Litten is literally just a cat
>Scorbunny is original, but doesn't look much like a fire type
is original
allow me to correct you, scorbunny is utter trash
It is trash, but it's original trash. They should've really put more effort into making it look like a fire type rather than put all the effort into the sport gimmick design
I'm mostly counting it as "stick a flame on its tail and call it a fire type" that many fire types suffer from. 1 and 4 are definitively the best.
Oshawott is king
oshawott is failed potential, wtf was that last evolution
I can't name any in Gen 4 onward so I'm picking 1 because Blastoise is still my bro
it's so weird that gen 1's starters have a theme of being amphibious creatures, like, it doesn't really come up because the concept of themes weren't really considered back then, this is more an accidental theme, but it still surprises me that it lines up.
I will always forever be mad that Croconaw/Feraligatr aren't Water/Dark when it would have worked as a fantastic advertisement for the new type introductions in gen 2.
1, 2,3 and 4

I liek mudkips

Not even a genwunner, I just think it's the only set without any duds, even if Blastoise is a bit of a miss.
It's Torchic and you're gay otherwise.
Gen 3 has objectively the best starter trio. Most of the early gens have good starters, but there's usually a weaker link. Like how the Johto starters are all good, but Chikorita is clearly the worst, even though its still decent.

Not as good as Gen 1. People who think Bulba’s line (weakest of Gen 1) is worse than Torchick’s line (weakest of Gen 3) are on crack.
Gen 1 is like that too
https://files.catbox.moe/9sao03.png
>fried chicken and watermelon
Enjoy it.

what is it with these latest modern gens having starters with promising first and sometimes second evos then completely shitting the bed with the final stage
They’ve lost track of what a good pokemon design even is.
Gen3 obviously
One and two.
I am a straight white male.
I want to frick a squirtle
>it's bad because I can't frick it
furries ruinned pokemon
posting links to porn should be a bannable offense like posting porn
I’m pretty sure Gamefreak ruined Pokemon, champ.
good point, agreed, now it can be both, i'll go with both
