I don't even play this game, but Siliconera turned to shit long ago with irrelevant articles. At least Gematsu is still good despite the owner being a gay.
>ragtag fanclub quite literally getting in the way of the WoL- the canonical saviour of all the universe, whose actions upon ascending to the battle against Godhood itself are only impeded by his glorified research team fricking something up >only his friends because they said they are, have offered him nothing but trouble and emotional baggage on his way up >No extraordinary or otherwise similarly ordained powerhouses on the team despite several also being initially blessed meaning the WoL still has to ultimately do everything himself
Scions of The Seventh Dawn is such a shit concept for a supporting cast that only gets worse and worse the higher the stakes get in FFXIV but they cant be gotten rid of because theyre literally the majopr recurring characters from expansion to expansion and part of the core cast now.
genuine disdain for the entire founding concepts of this game and i b***h about it so much because purely by length alone it has fantastic small pockets of design, music and art buried in hours of time wasting c**tshit
the scale of strong goes from being able to fight a couple of capable fighters single handedly. being able to fight off several monsters singlehandedly. a whole army, to eikons, deities, monstrosities and forces themselves.
i waited literally several hundred hours for the WoL to ludonarratively struggle with something to be helped by a single scion and it never really happened. i dont care about anime power levels or anything like that but something other than "GO ILL HOLD THEM OFF" which in itself is fricking trite wouldnt have gone amiss. having them join in dungeons sometimes doesnt come close to painting them as the supportive and capable fighters theyre supposed to be nearly quick enough for me to care about them.
Yshtola, Urianger and possibly Papalymo have their uses outside of combat but Blue Alisae, Alisae, and the entirety of Blue Alisae's efforts to use money and influence to advance minor plot points just left me not giving a shit after i personally b***h smacked every illusory god in the first half of both expansions they were set up in.
just dont care about any of them to the point the sentimentality in the game says you should. If Yshtola turned up and casted protect every so often or Estinien jump on shit for no reason it wouldve been something but actual [events] in the plot that mean anything other than more political wank is few and far between.
TLD:DR- not a single Auron or Balthier tier character in the game and the one that is- Cid isnt a scion
The problem is mainly that gameplay =/= story. In gameplay the Warrior of Light needs party members to survive and can have Scions accompanying them in the various dungeons that are often more dangerous than the individual bosses, but everyone in these parties can do stuff like survive the full, genuine-powered Ultima now like a belly itch. In story, basically every major villain can one-shot everyone BUT the Warrior who then uses the power of friendship to pull seven more people just as hardy as themselves from elsewhere in the shards to kick ass. The weird segregation and handling of it resulted in everyone not the Warrior seeming like a pissbaby as a result.
not my problem. make me a Lord or Significant political figure or i dont care. my job is literally to Blade Of Light shit away not listen to 400 people weep about speciesism for 30 hours and then kill a false demigod- before running off to another country and basically being treated like a level 1 pugilist with no Gil after all my achievements
Funny enough Ugetsu in Stormblood's Samurai job questline is specifically written to be "ME RUN IN AND UNGA EVERYTHING TO MAKE THING BETTER" and all it really accomplishes is pissing off Musosai and getting his family killed by bugyo in retaliation
That would've been beyond amusing, his interactions with the Scions would've been priceless. And you would have finally had a character comparable in strength to the WoL on the Scions.
Estinien, while not as strong as the WoL, is probably just a tier below and one of the strongest characters in the story. Zenos even acknowledges that fighting him might be fun if he wasn't already obsessed with the WoL.
As others have said, Estinien stands out as strong. He was basically Ishgard's superhero before losing his job with the end of the Dragonsong War. That being said, he's pure muscle and isn't capable of much outside of a fight. Sounds a bit worthless when put against the Warrior of Light but the Warrior of Light can't be everywhere at once so it's still helpful to have someone who is almost as good to fill in at times.
G'raha may be a bit of a homosexual now but he is still a powerful magic user and experienced leader from his time as the Crystal Exarch.
I still get a kick out of Elidibus-in-Zenos' body struggling to fight the Warrior as is, but once they conked out cuz of G'raha's summons, Estinien showing up was enough for Elidibus to just peace out instead of try his chances. The Warrior is the main menace, but that one moment establishes that even the top Ascians didn't want to pick a fight with the top Dragoon without a good estimate of their odds.
The power of belief and emotion to shape aether has literally been in the game since day fricking one. It's how all magic functions. It's how primals are formed. All they did was give the phenomenon a name. I really do not understand how dynamis confused so many people, holy shit.
To be fair, Dynamis and Aether are separate phenomena, it's just Aether can be shaped in very similar ways from thoughts and creativity with enough of it that the Ancients didn't even realize it existed until producing things more removed from Aether.
The creations of the Ancients were actually also influenced by dynamis, they just had no idea dynamis existed and much like the Sharlayans assumed that aether itself naturally responded to emotion. There are plenty of sidequests that talk about their creations being changed by wayward thoughts, and the mention in the Watcher's short story about a kid getting scared and accidentally summoning a hell tower. And the Nier collab says that Hades was such a potent mage because he was so emotional, but he sliced out emotions when he felt them and held them in auracite to use them as needed.
So basically Aether is shapeless magical energy, Dynamis as emotion-fueled output helped to give it shape. For the Ancients who were incredibly reserved and lost a lot of their care for individual lives, they had snippets of it besides those who grew beyond like Venat and Emet; for the people sundered and without the mass of Aether reserves, it took more effort to draw out but also meant less limits in how to utilize it thanks to the broader emotional spectrum of Man. That sound about right?
Hermes explicitly says the ancients couldn't effectively manipulate dynamis because they were so dense in aether. Sundered people can because they're not as aether rich.
Anonymous
Hermes himself manipulated dynamis without even trying, and it's confirmed that Hades's intense emotions were the source of his power. Aetherial density means they couldn't mesh with it like sundered can, but they could still clearly influence it externally.

Influencing it isn't the same as actually manipulating it and putting it towards a purpose, it's why the Ancient trusts get a little "not canon" buff marker when they use Limit Break skills.

Which is funny since he pits himself against three Ancients that (unwittingly) could manipulate it with their own limit breaks. Honestly a lot of weird shit with the Ancients and Dynamis isn't helped by in-universe biases straight from the horse's mouths. Emet-Selch has a very rose-tinted glasses view of the species despite his broad cynicism, Hermes is unfathomably loathing of his own people because of a deep depression and Venat hated what they did but understood why and so forth.
>Estinien showing up was enough for Elidibus to just peace out instead of try his chances
That's because Elidi-Zenos is the biggest most pathetic jobber in the game. Reminder that at the end of ShB, he was confronted by Elezen Zenos - just a frontline soldier with angry Resonant eyes holding a katana - and his proposed response was to;
1. Despite being an immortal soul puppeting the body of the strongest man in the world, instantly shit himself, start crying, forget all his schemes and abandon ship leaving the body behind
2. Somehow, while crying and shitting himself, spills all the details about the shards, the truth of Hydaelyn and Zodiark, and all the other greatest secrets that he's guarded for millenia
3. Run away. Not just to the next room, not just fleeing the city, he flew to the fricking MOON to get away from him
There's a reason we enjoyed a full year of Elidibusposting before he finally redeemed himself as something more than a sad parody of a villain in 5.3.
Had money in ARR, paid for mercs including the WoL to fight his battles for him. Gave a nice little speech during Operation Archon (which is more than the other Scions did).
In HW he's an impoverished frickup with no connections who comes close to realising he's a child in over his head, but they backtracked because YoshiP likes him and by the start of Stormblood he's back in charge again.
No as anon said it actually set up a good base for him to grow as a character. Where he realizes he's a naive fricking child who commands respect of jack and shit. So why would a bunch of soldiers actually answer to him and take him seriously? And then it fell by the wayside.
That's exactly how a bunch of mercs and former soldiers would act >can you believe this fricking goober >good pay and autonamy to do what we want where we want >what if that little elf girl doesn't like it >who gives a shit we don't answer to some kid
Looking back Ilberd was a good villain who played his hand well until >muh liberation >muh ala bazinga >muh past
Ilberd was a great villain who played everyone and got everything he wanted in the end. His entire goal from day one was forcing Eorzea into outright war with Garlemald in order to free Ala Mhigo. And he achieved it. Genuinely the only villain in the entire saga to have actually won.
Alright I guess anon, you'll be confused on the story and lost for why you're fighting what you're fighting.
Each raid and trial does have a story attached to it unlike other mmos where they might have a quest log.
I'm telling you this now so you're aware in the future when you might be wondering what or who is this character people will tell you to play the story to find out. It will get annoying being reminded all the time, there are some real die-hard hard-ons for the story in this game like me .
>Island Sanctuary >Eureka >Bozja >Raids >Houses >Deep Dungeons >Variables >Relics >Triple Triad cards
all the side activities of an MMO that are usually breaks from the MSQ are literally locked behind MSQ progress in FFXIV. you dont have a choice but to sit through hours of fetch quests and exposition in this game.
if you force someone to play a game for hundreds of hours to get to the "good stuff" theyre going to call everything in the way a shit waste of time. if someone tells me at the end of ARR they think the game is shit because they spent an hour running back and forth in the snow delivering meat then im not going to argue with them as to why they should just to meet a thief with a fat leather butt who appears twice in 60 more hours
We know the game is far from perfect, that ARR was lengthy because at the time of release it was all there was, think of how it was back in 2.0 before Heavenwards, they did that to give people shit to do.
Now they've cut a lot out from then and revamped Cape Westwind and the Lahabrea fight, revamped Praetoria to be 4man instead of 8, which cut down how long it used to be.
MMOs, all of them are by definition meant to be long, grindy, and waste your time the difference with FFXIV is the story is the main grind.
The whole point of the game is the story. If you're looking for gear treadmill gameplay you're wasting your time because it doesn't really exist in this game.

? I'm max level and BiS right now waiting for new content
None of them fricking mattered at all
Even Estinien fricking jobs at the one task he's supposed to do, holding an eyeball
Like frick the first Thordan literally ate dragon eyes for breakfast no problem and the "greatest azure dragoon" can barely hold it for a delivery
And he's the most competent Scion after Yshtola
At the very least Y'shtola, G'raha, and Thancred should have died by this point. What is it with Japanese games and their refusal to let main characters die? Falcom games have a similar problem to this, the Cold Steel saga is an empire splitting civil war and maybe one or two guys die, and NONE of the main cast die, in fact the only two that do, get raised from the dead. It feels like Disney animated movies feature more main character deaths than Japanese RPGs do.
The last time Y'shtola feigned death was to show off how powerful Emet-Selch is by dabbing on what the elementals could do in way less time
G'raha Tia being sentenced to death in under an expac after getting a new lease on life is embarrassingly bad writing, legitimate epitome of killing a character just to do so, a better argument would be whether or not he shouldn't have merged identities with the Crystal Exarch and been let out of the Crystal Tower, but that would have just begged the question of why nobody let him out of the Crystal Tower as his ARR self
Thancred dying makes no thematic or practical sense when the purpose of his fight with Ran'jit where him collapsing KIND OF baited a death was supposed to be an actual, final acceptance of Ryne being her own person and not an extension of or replacement for Minfilia, something he was shat on repeatedly for over the course of Shadowbringers
Y'shtola should have died multiple times by now, honestly she should have died in SB when Zenos raided the Ala Mhigan camp to actually give it some real narrative weight, but of course she "barely survives" and the villain accomplishes barely anything. Typical Japanese writing.
G'raha Tia nobly sacrificing himself to give the WoL a chance to defeat Emet Selch would've added significant weight to that scene as well, and been a far better resolution of his entire character and storyline than turning into the WoLs #1 simp.
Thancred never thought of Ryne as a replacement for Minfilia, he always thought of her as her own person, he simply wanted to succeed in protecting her where he failed in protecting Minfilia. Him giving up his life to accomplish this would've been a great scene and a great summation to his overall character. Furthermore, all of these deaths would've given some real weight to the villains, and a feeling of actual consequences and risk for the heroes in the story. As it is, the Scions might as well be THE MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE, FEATURING HE-MAN/WoL, there is no legitimate threat or risk that they ever face that sets them apart from Saturday morning cartoon heroes. Which is why all the attempts to be dramatic and compelling fail, you can't take it seriously when you know nothing is going to ever actually kill the heroes of a story.
>honestly she should have died in SB when Zenos raided the Ala Mhigan camp to actually give it some real narrative weight,
That narrative weight is already achieved by throwing up her doofy shield and Zenos just smashes through it, when it was plenty to fend off Gaius and other threads prior >G'raha Tia nobly sacrificing himself to give the WoL a chance to defeat Emet Selch would've
Would've been moronic, Shadowbringers specifically talks about G'raha being a moron for attempted self-sacrifice and somehow seeing no other option, he's also been WoL's #1 simp since ARR and somehow every Crystal Exarch stan forgets the fricking basket of sandwiches and the nervous simpering before meetings with WoL >Thancred never thought of Ryne as a replacement for Minfilia
You're an idiot, play Shadowbringers again
10 months ago
Anonymous
It's not achieved at all since there is no actual loss or death. G'raha Tia actually having to pay a real price and die in order to enable the WoL to destroy Emet would've been far better than the (admittedly still great) finale we got. Yes, G'raha was always an annoying simp, I'm not disputing that part of his character, I'm saying it would've been better for him to perish in that scene so we don't get him constantly simping in every single fricking interaction he has afterwards. He was a great character as the Crystal Exarch, he's an annoying c**t as G'raha Tia. And I've played Shadowbringers, you're the one who didn't understand Thancred if you think he ever thought of Ryne as a replacement for Minfilia. Other people thought he might view her that way, but it's blatantly obvious Thancred never did, he always wanted her to have her own existence and again, the main narrative point was that he wanted to succeed in protecting her where he had failed in protecting Minfilia. That is about the only way you can argue he saw her as a "replacement", in the sense that he wants to succeed at the same task with a different girl.
You also didn't address the fact that the entire narrative has suffered greatly from the fact that the heroes of the story simply can't and won't die anymore than He-Mans sidekicks can, which makes all the attempts at making things dramatic or compelling a complete joke, since you know nothing is ever going to actually kill any of these characters no matter how "dire" it seems.

So you think that if a story has death and consequences for its heroes, it has to go to the extreme level of Game Of Thrones which is frankly just death and sex for the sake of titillating the audience and "subverting expectations"? What other works of fiction have you even consumed? How about even the basic classics of fantasy and science fiction like Dune or Lord Of The Rings? Do you really think Dune would've been better if Duncan and Leto both lived, or if in LOTR Boromir and Theoden survived?
Yes, a story is cheapened if death is dealt out randomly just for shock value like in Game Of Thrones, but it's also cheapened when all the protagonists are effectively immortal and don't even die when they should. Imagine a LOTR where Theoden doesn't die on the Pelennor Fields, the entire story starts to feel fake because no one ever pays the ultimate price, none of the heroes ever face death, simply because they're the protagonists and they are beyond death. And that's the problem with FFXIV, they have repeatedly missed the points where a death would've made sense and the current story feels like a Saturday morning cartoon as a result. The Scions are effectively immortal at this point and so why even bother pretending anything is a threat? Maybe that's why it's a good thing the new expansion will be more lighthearted, since FFXIV currently can't pull off anything dramatic to save its life, since there's no consequences and no weight due to the immortality of the main cast.

please don't cite a book series where duncan being cloned repeatedly to keep serving after death is a plot element
10 months ago

One of the key points of that was that the clone wasn't really Duncan and Paul was aware of that, yet kept him around anyway. So no, the actual Duncan was dead and gone. I like how you tried to avoid all of my points by just bringing up that irrelevant issue up, by the way, but please actually try to defend the cartoonish immunity to death the Scions have if you're going to respond again.

except the clones are duncan through memory restoration. pissing contest over

Except they actually aren't him since Dune actually covers spirituality as well, Paul explicitly acknowledges the new Duncan is not the Duncan he once knew, and that Duncan is gone forever, but the new one is its own being that he can work with and treat as a friend, even if its not truly Duncan. Maybe actually read the full book rather than a synopsis. Also you have now failed twice to defend the original point of contention, so yeah, argument over, the Scions never having any real threat of death makes them, and by extension, the overall story, much weaker and less impactful than it should be.

You don't understand why people laugh at Game of Thrones at all, you're just parroting it to fit in. Using the threat of death is absolutely a valid way to create tension in a story, especially in a more simplistic one like in a Final Fantasy game. GoT sucks ass because it constantly kills off characters at random, without any rhyme or reason.

Scroll up and you'd see that guy was complaining about Game of Thrones specifically because he thinks all of the complaints about wanting Scions to die for narrative tension are pointless and random, and he's completely right, people that want Scions to die for narrative weight are Black folk.

Oh absolutely, I was just focusing on the character deaths and all.
HW was the last time any major character was in danger and their sacrifices had an actual lasting impact on others. ShB has a much better presentation but in terms of raw writing HW is the absolute peak.

I agree, I also feel like it was the last time the nation states had any real identity and nuance, they all kinda just merge into one big Eorzean Alliance afterwards and lose their uniqueness post HW.
Haldrath succumbed to the eyes too and he was supposed to be big enough shit that he's apparently mucking around in your soul crystal, and your Drachen Armor chest is the same one Haldrath wore (don't think about it too hard if you're not playing an Elezen)
The Azure Dragoons are always emotionally vulnerable, not physically vulnerable, you have to channel an insane dragon aspected to dark and fire
Lyse is the best one because she was the only one smart enough to quit. As individuals some of the scions are pretty cool with unique knowledge and skills, but the organisation has always had a really weird place in the narrative as extremely well-funded and privileged scrappy underdogs, operating in secret but also super famously. I honestly thought they must have been the main characters in 1.0 given ARR does such a sloppy and rushed job of setting the group up as "your team" (then they're immediately destroyed lol)
Alphinaud's the worst. Condescending trust fund prick who never learns to go away and let the adults work.
SINKING DEEPER AND DEEPER

If Dawntrail is a fun friends on holiday simulator the fans will eat it up and the game will die within 18 months. The parasocial audience attached to the Scions are loud but will always be shrinking. Endwalker already overdid the fond farewells and nostalgia, you can only beat that horse for so long before most people look for something new to experience.
>some of these screenshots do actually look pretty bad but 90% of the content of this video lacks any context and just makes no sense unless you're someone who's already deeply involved in this drama, needs 100x more context otherwise this just seems like nothing

also had to mute the Black person music
Graha being a simp ran it's course before it even began. It'll never happen because of subhuman fujocancer. But there needs to be a patch or expansion where you just beat that shit out of him and teach him out to interact correctly.
Y'shtola literally belongs to my WoL and no one else. I don't care how many times she's died and pretended to die. She's built for his midlander hyurian wiener
>Alphinaud
Rich kid way over his head that caused more mess than he fixed. The one time he acts alone (Shadowbringers in Eulmore), he couldnt even manage to enter the city, while everyone else actually bettered their community, mingled, or did work >Alisae
Actually the more competent one. Lets not forget she helped cure the tempering issue. That said, she cant do anything on her own, shes a useful puppet, basically. >Yshtola
Saved us in the end of ARR (even though she really dont have to, the WoL can solo whatever Uldhan throws). After that, absolutely useless. Wow, you lived with tree huggers. >Urianger
Now we're starting. Has agency and actually tried to move things forward. Some say he fricked up with his deal with Elidibus, but it wasnt as abvious as Alphinaud's "throw money at everything" idiocy in ARR. >Graha
Absolute beast, until he joins your party. The guy is a ruler, a mage, a scholar with a century of experience and wisdom. But once he joins your party, he became useless. He had a spark of leadership in Endwalker, while protecting the indian city, but by all right he should be the leader of the Scions. >Thancred
He goated in Shadowbringer by protecting the Oracle of Light. He should've died against Ranjit though, because now he's irrelevant and is basically replaced by... >Estinien
If the WoL doesnt exist, Estinien would be it. He actually does things. Sure he fricked up before Heavensward, but between Stormblood and Endwalker he basically saved the world a couple of times. >Yda
Traitorous, lying, useless b***h. The useless half of her duo with >Papalymo
Irrelevant and overshadowed by Urianger. He cant even contain Shinryu without us turning Omega on.
But truly, the best is pic rel. The man actually gave US hope. I dont think anyone else in the game that isnt a god gives the WoL hope at the lowest time, since its usually us who do it to others. He really needs more recognition.
I didn't give a frick about horseradish in ARR, and certainly didn't care about housefart when he got got. And let out an audible >pffffft
when his ghost appeared.
Didnt she use her flow magic and died to teleport whats left of the Scions iut of Uldah in the end of ARR?
Honestly I forgot, it was so long ago. Also we forgave Uldah and the fricking Ala MBlack folk too easily. Maybe thats why Stormblood left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouth.
She used Flow to get herself and Thancred out but they did serve as a distraction to let everyone else run, we also forgave Ul'dah but we didn't necessarily forgive the Monetarists that orchestrated it with the Crystal Braves' help, save for Lolorito and one or two others that knew about the plot and were working against it, up to and including Lolorito giving Nanamo a metric frickton of money so that the sultana is politically relevant again
Yes >died when she used forbidden magic >rescued from lifestream >essentially died when Zenos sliced her up since she doesn't reappear until the post expansion patches >coma dies halfway between stormblood and shadowbringers >jumps off a cliff edge >dies >gets resurrected again
Honestly it's a joke at this point. I'm sure I'll see her die a few more times before I'm done with endwalker.
The only important thing Yshtola does there is open up a portal that Minfilia can suicide into for crystal mommy to eat. They could have all kept running and escaped no problem.
>Also we forgave Uldah and the fricking Ala MBlack folk too easily.
Agreed on the Mhiggers, but there was no one left in Ul'dah to hold a grudge against. The only people in the know were the Syndicate, and all of its members save for Teledji (who had already been dealt with) turned out to have been either uninvolved in the plan, or double agents looking to sabotage it.
>The one time he acts alone (Shadowbringers in Eulmore), he couldnt even manage to enter the city, while everyone else actually bettered their community, mingled, or did work
And then when you go in there to get shit done he derails it all by having a tantrum and then crying that some rich cannibals have been hurt. The only Scion that is objectively both incompetent and a bad person (since Tataru magically learned to not suck at everything when she became a meme after HW).
100% correct take. I was genuinely looking forward to finally getting rid of the scions during/after EW, most of them are just finished and stick around for no reason at all. G'raha and Thancred are the worst examples, they should've never left the First, they now completely different characters devoid of any personality or goals.
Not killing thancred in Shadowbringers was the biggest mistake >was in the first the longest >no longer has magic >is old man by japan protagonist standards at a whopping 37 >finally gets closure that the minfilia he raised is for all indents and porpoises dead and gone >finally acknowledges how proud he is of the new minfilia standing up for herself without the baggage of just being a host for crystal mommy >has a well done death scene and speech >akshually he's fine just chilling on the porch
Absolute bullshit. I don't give a flying frick how many young japanese girls Squeenix would've pissed off. It was beyond moronic for him to live
>mechanics of the fight continuously state how dangerously hard thancred is pushing his body >not in any hype way >very much in a o shit he's barely out maneuvering ranjit if at all >after the fight sounds like he's about to have a heart attack because he was >pitybait sad theme of the expansion starts playing
Yeah, most people read the tone wrong and should have been hyped as frick.
>thematically can only clash evenly with Ran'jit when finally accepting Ryne is her own person with her own dreams and goals and identity >dies immediately after

This really. The more red flags a character has for imminent death, the less palatable it is. Doubly so for when they don't actually die.
I think what bothers me most about Thancred's fake out death is how quickly it stops being relevant. Like if he was down and out for a long period of time in the story, I wouldn't mind as much, but the fact that one bit of content later and he pops up healed and fine is the biggest problem. The same happens with waifucat Y'shtola, she gets Flow'd and then almost immediately Emet busts her out of the lifestream. What's the point of fake outs if there isn't time to ruminate on them? Endwalker does the exact same problem, complete with characters cheekily acknowledging you'll undo it by the end.
Seriously, when the whole ultima thule shit happened and y'shtola opened her stupid mouth it ruined the rest of the zone completely, it went from "Ok there is no way they'll kill them for real but *to them* it may be the last time we meet and it should be this emotional goodbye" to "Ight can you shut up and turn into the ground already we got a bird to catch"
Absolutely right, I know people focus on Thancred, since he faded to irrelevancy, but I HATE G'raha, as the Crystal Exarch he was fantastic, as G'raha he's a fricking annoying c**t.
>Absolute beast, until he joins your party.
I remember reading an interview that went over how to interpret the end of 5.3 in terms of what happens to the Crystal Exarch and G'raha, and the result was that it was more "the original G'raha in the Source got the Crystal Exarch's memories" rather than "the Crystal Exarch lives on through his original body in the Source". If you view it like that, the fact that G'raha is a pathetic twat in all circumstances (outside of the one instance where he was useful in India) makes sense. It also explains why they drew out the Crystal Exarch's death sequence at the top of the Crystal Tower in the First.
Now the Crystal Exarch would have been a true credit to the team, bringing something that no one else has. Centuries of leadership experience and all that it entails. He would have made for a good team strategist and advisor among other things.
Yeah, instead we ended up with >wowee the WoL just shit their pants >their hemorhhoids have progressed so much the've developed a fistula >what an icon
Isn't it fricked up that Alisaie and Alphinaud learned to summon Phoenix at the end of Coils and then you just whip Demi-Phoenix out of your ass in Shadowbringers with no fanfare or lore explanation? And they can't give the twins the ability to summon Phoenix without also forcing you to run through Coils, same as G'raha being canonized by forcing you to run through Crystal Tower?
lyse is silent >god she's so cute i love her so much
lyse speaks >god this b***h is so fricking stupid, it's actually infuriating. you dumb bawd i just want to beat you until you shut your mouth
lyse made me understand why men who beat their spouses still claim to also love them.
I kept thinking she would learn some form of lesson throughout stormblood. Especially after we went to Japan and freed that nation state. But no. She just ends up on top through sheer happenstance essentially. It was truly infuriating when every interaction turned into >you have to fight for a free ala mhigo >nah that would put us in danger >don't you know about me wanting to fulfill my dream of a liberated country >you better get on board >no, we don't think we will >a few fetch quests later >o forgive us for not fighting for you >we have fully righted our wrongs and devoted ourselves to the cause
The lesson she learns is that she actually does want to save Ala Mhigo or die trying, it's not just something she feels responsibility to do because of her dead father, dead sister, and dead mentor. It doesn't work super well because we already know (or assume) that's the case, and the game decides to sideline her for ages while Alisae shows off a new class and Yugiri repeats all the dumbshit idealist scenes Lyse had earlier (also Gosetsu. There's not a lot of ideas to spread around). The Hien appears to be the actual lead character because he came up with a plan off screen. Lyse's biggest epiphany moment is pretty much just deciding to keep moving forward and brainlessly fighting stuff like the WoL does. Which is sad and disappointing in both cases really.
The "Lyse doesn't deserve to be the big hero" complaint is weird when Hien and Raubahn are explicitly more important to how things happen. She's a pretty figurehead who gets what she wants, but she didn't make it happen by any definition.
At the end of StB she's the nominated leader of one cell of the resistance (which the game forgets briefly and acts like is all the resistance). Raubahn leads the allied forces including that resistance through the campaign. She's still relatively important mostly because of who her father was and how many powerful foreign friends she has, but she's not directing anything.
No anon. The resistance (and that cell in particular) took over leadership of all of Ala Mhigo at the end. She became the de facto leader of the entire country through nepotism.
I genuinely laughed out loud at some of the patronizing garbage she utters towards Fordola during the later patches. She's cute, I'd be the first to admit that, but I genuinely hope she fricking dies and/or never shows up ever again.
I started FFXIV yesterday, I'm liking it so far but how come I see nobody type in chat? I played for 6 hours and I don't remember seeing another player message at all. Also does the game let me assign attributes on level up or is it done automatically?
So it's not chat being level-restricted or locked by default? I thought it was the latter but I didn't find anything in system options, doesn't bother me that much honestly since I like playing at my own pace instead of rushing.
If you're on the free trial you can't use /shout or /yell chat features to carry your messages farther in a zone or city, but you can still chat normally
I don't think the tribal caster one is that old, but they all look fine. I like the Dalmasca/skirt combo.
As for the thread topic, I like all the scions well enough. Urianger making a show of seeking forgiveness every time he does something vaguely duplicitous maybe got a bit silly but otherwise fine.
She used her flow magic and got lost in it, she never died.
viera scion when
i fricking hope it isn't erenville
Same but it is and we're gonna have to live with it. As recompense I demand the crazy Aztecs in the north being a Bunnygirl empire sacrificing people for a Quetzacotl mkII primal or whatever. Because that would amuse me greatly.
All the scions are pretty shit tbh. Probably one of the worst core FF parties there is.
And characters somehow actively get worse as soon as they're made a Scion of the Seventh Dawn.
>i fricking hope it isn't erenville
It will be. He somehow gets placed higher than actual Scions on popularity votes, there's no way SE won't exploit that.

Their new "expansion" has literally less content than a Living Story season.
Favorites? It depends. >Best friend
The twins, who sadly are only on rare occasions enough of a character to not count as one. >Best battlebro
If you'd take anyone other than Estinien into every battle, you're a fool and a homo. >Best fangirl
If I need someone to figuratively suck my wiener, I'd prefer none other than my boy G'raha. >Best girl
If I need someone to literally suck my wiener, I'd prefer none other than Y'shtola Ryne, actually. >Best bro
Because not every friend is someone you can go bar crawling with and not every bro is someone that can support you like a best friend can. This slot goes to Krile and it's entirely because I want to see how easily her clothes fall off when she's plastered. If the answer is "they don't" then I'm changing my answer to Thancred.
All in all, they occupy different niches in the needs of personal social hierarchies.
that sounds like something a healbawd would say.
now get down on your knees, why did you let me die to that mechanic bawd?
why didn't you heal me?
I'm gonna pushing your throat now.
>die to a mechanic
you're supposed to deal with mechanics yourself, moron
fail the same thing 3 times and I will no longer heal you, waste of a gcd
you.can stay close and maybe lick an aoe heal once in a while if you're lucky
i am at my fricking limit. i want to see more cool designs. tell me how bad Stormblood is. it took so long for me to go into it after HW that its now a frickin free expansion. i really genuinely dont think my patience could take more >run to this place and fight 3 enemies on the path
but im sitting on level 80 DRK and 70 SAM id like some more dungeons and to actually finish their job quests
The first third of stormblood is boring as shit until the plot kicks off. The second third in fantasy nippon is fun outside of the azim steppe arc which is pure shit. the last third is somewhere between the two. It becomes ridiculous with the amount of >Meanwhile, elsewhere
scene transitions
>sadu dorthal
beyond shit character >muh plains >muh customs >muh kaughgang
The best part of it was best boy Gosetsu being like >shit's whack and these people are fricked in the head >but I guess I'm here
Most of the stuff on the steppe is accurate lore, and either plot relevant to Hien's plan or borderline spoilers for what happens later in Shadowbringers. It's not pointless worldbuilding fluff, even the silly stuff sets up later not-silly stuff.
Stormblood is fine as long as you play it knowing that nothing exciting is going to happen for a long time. It's not like HW where you're killing super dragons halfway through. The drab lategame padding HW has is all at the start instead.
The story is okay, just a little light on stuff for the WoL to actually do. It's a "helping your bimbo gf with her new career" expansion. Relax and make a frenemy while the idiots do idiot things, you're on vacation.
>The drab lategame padding HW has is all at the start instead.
It was even worse for Endwalker, the whole fetch quest and boring exploration in Sharallyian and in a country you barely give a frick about is absolute tedium....
Then you get to Garlemald and the ride never slows down until it ends.
Honestly all of EW's pacing rockets all over the place. You have the slow starts, which is relatively alright at first because there's a lot to unpack before shit really picks up, but then it picks up and doesn't stop for several hours on end. Then it just keeps going and going, suicide, death, despair, all that jazz. Then the big climatic oh frick hits
and it's Loporitt time for the next four hours, then everyone chills a bit more, then END OF THE WORLD OH GOD THAT WOMAN'S NECK POPPED LIKE A CELERY STICK, EAT DA CHILD and then it calms down again and keeps going on fricking sabbaticals before going a mile a second at spastic times. Especially when you had to do chores for two hours with part of the EW theme playing on loop endlessly.
A lot of folks say EW was two expansion's worth of story jammed really awkwardly into one, and honestly that really puts it lightly.
I wish instead of being the literal chosen one by god who is a reincarnation of another chosen one, we could be like FF11's really competent adventurer
There's this dude called Zaric Zhakaron on YouTube who primarily talks about The Elder Scrolls but otherwise usually has really good takes, and he thought originally that the reason the Hero of Light was so strong was because even fractured Azim being an adventure would have just grown so much more powerful than everyone else. I really liked that theory. Then Endwalker came along, martyred Venat and asspulled Dynamis. I made the conclusion in Shadowbringers since the cave paintings that Zodiark didn't cause the calamity due to shit Venat said in the Antitower, and so there should have been a villain like the Endsinger but it shouldn't have been the Endsinger. The stakes went too high too fast. I've kinda lost interest.
it's what let Ash Ketchum use his pikachu to beat a ground type. No need to be smart, just try really really hard and believe in yourself, salaryman. The boss will respect you one day (see half the crafting job questlines where buttholes take advantage of you until your insane talent is noticed)
They already had a name for it, it's called Trance. I'm not saying it's unpredicted, but it was out of left field. Also, anything that could have been attributed to it could have been attributed to, what would you call it, shard resonance? Like how the time dilation worked in the First. How it just syncs up from time to time and you can pull more from your fractured soul.
The power of belief and emotion to shape aether has literally been in the game since day fricking one. It's how all magic functions. It's how primals are formed. All they did was give the phenomenon a name. I really do not understand how dynamis confused so many people, holy shit.
>I really do not understand how dynamis confused so many people, holy shit.
EW in general seems to have really just filtered all the morons. >are you trying to say EW was some high IQ piece of literature?
No. I'm just saying people are that fricking stupid. Just look at anons having to explain dynamis being in the game as a concept for years, it was only just given a name to be used in the plot with EW.
The Warrior is still a demigod by nature of fusing with at least one of their sundered selves in Ardbert, they just also happen to have the power of friendship as a hilariously overpowered backup thanks to dynamis.
Not even remotely what I was implying. I mean that their companionship with the Scions, and the crystal of Azim, functionally lets them tap into Dynamis like a wellspring when their normal beyond-human capabilities don't cut it enough.
EVERYONE uses dynamis any time they use magic. Azem has nothing at all to do with it. Magic is when you shape aether using your emotions, that has always what it's been in the lore. What EW did was say that aether responds to emotion because of another energy, dynamis.

I'd like Zero to survive the next patch and to stay as one of the scions, only if she shows up in Dawntrail with long hair and a moderately low cut top
well all the south americans will probably join the us servers so I'll be fine on Zodiark
The big change is that Dawntrail is out next year with 10 more levels, 6 more zones, 2 new classes and 3 trails at launch with more content coming out in the following patches
how does it get away with it, guess next expansion maybe the last for a bunch shb babies including myself

does remind me that I wish Au'Ra were their actual goddamn draconic look from the concept art and not the boring ass Japanese waifu with horns and a skin rash vs. big ass malformed anime delinquents
I am of the opinion that male Au Ra were designed with Xaela in mind and female were designed with Raen in mind but they never designed and implemented their counterparts because they were too lazy to.
Well I mean stuff like this. But Hrothgar have shown that anything with changes too radical would've been too much for the devs at this point. Some part of me also kinda wishes different races had cool effects or factors with things like Limit Breaks, but gameplay differences can't ever occur because of the meta bullshit for MMOs.
Anonymous
Female Raen look fine for what they are supposed to be. Female Xaela should have looked like that for sure. Also maybe it those LBs don't have to have different gameplay effects. I can always just be purely cosmetic. That being said, I am not even sure myself what race based LBs would even look like.
Anonymous
There's already hints of vague race-exclusive combat animations. Hrothgar hold spears entirely differently from all other races for example. The functionality is probably there for them to use, but even so much as trying to get male Viera and female Hrothgar is apparently a nightmare and a half for them at this point.

>Hrothgar hold spears entirely differently from all other races for example.
That's them sharing animations with male roegadyn actually, male roes hold WAR axes and DRG spears differently. Other races hold their axe up and their spear down, roes hold their axe down and their spear up

Echo who normally stick with WoW first world stuff finally managed to complete TOP blind, (latest Ultimate released in FFXIV) and it took them 6 months, granted they took a break it was more like 1 month straight progging if you combine their total time but the time alone doesn't tell the full story of how difficult they are.
Mods are heavily discouraged, yes normal players do use them and they are homosexuals but the are meant to be played vanilla and it was a controversy for a JP team who were caught using a mod when the World first race was going on for TOP.

Do yourself a favour anons, get yourself some translation plugins and browse jap forums to see how unhinged they are. I thought "Barry" was bad, holy shit are Japanese homosexuals bad, they are completely fricking insane. I can post some screencaps if people are interested to see what I'm talking about
Here's a sample thread OP from a ff14 thread.
Antis they're talking about, apparently there is a huge hate mob of people who shit on SE, square Enix and especially Yoshida calling him a false idol saying he's using FF14 to get famous on the Final Fantasy brand.
They hardcore want to see the end of SE, and these are JAPANESE people. What the frick is wrong with them? I thought they'd be proud their own studios are doing so well and their people so widely liked?
I don't get it, I don't get the hate. If it's "appeal to the west" FF games have been that way since FF1 as it was dnd inspired so what the frick is all of this coming from?
japanese people can be and often are also delusional morons same as westerners, the type of jap that sees a western sword used being used by a knight and gets mad it's not a katana and a samurai
I used to have this image of Japs being united and proud of any of their domestic industries but seeing how rabid and how much they hate Yoshida, SE (understandable I guess) and FF14 and ff16 I just don't know what to say.
It's like when Japs and Chinese go to Paris and see it's nothing like the movies, they have something called Paris Syndrome I think I'm getting a touch of that from looking through these threads, what the Japanese are talking about.
if you want some more culture shock you should look into the japanese equivalent of /misc/tards, "netto uyo" or "netto uyoku"

I worked a year in Japan, and it has its own lesser Paris syndrome
Everyone isn't nice, they're polite because you are expected to be. But if you have a shred of social consistence, you'll talking at any volume other than a murmur in public anywhere outside of an izakaya will get you nasty looks like you're a fricking inbred mutant. Japanese, when you have to actually work with them, are obstinate fricks and will whine like fricking petulant children when there are any organizational changes that affect their daily work routine. They will always refuse to speak English even though the place I worked at required basic fluency because they'd rather get service from another Jap despite WORKING ON A FRICKING AMERICAN MILITARY BASE. There are also a number of places and events that straight up bar foreigners. Doesn't matter if you speak Japanese, Foreigner = Kicked out.

it's less they're america lite (couldn't be any farther from the truth) and more "they're still people, and people are a very broad demographic"
It's no wonder Yoshida likes the West so much if Japan is like that, living with that culture would drive me up the fricking wall. I just don't understand why they hate their own people so much, their own industries.
We can all shit on FF14 and FF16 but if they were made in my country by my own people and they were played by people in other countries I'd be so proud there were people in my country capable of making something that was enjoyed all over.
But Japan at least from what I'm reading so far, I could be immensely wrong, they seem to have this huge crab bucket mentality of "if you step out of line we're pulling you back down to the bottom".

>It's no wonder Yoshida likes the West so much if Japan is like that,
Well what I said applies mostly to the JP equivalent of normalgays, I have no idea how the game development industry is over there. My guess is that Yoshi might be more tolerant of westerners but not spiteful toward his own native culture. I'd wager my next paycheck that FF16 being an action game with GoT-style westerner aesthetics is primarily a demand from Square. FF14 is very Japanese in it's aesthetics and plot so I see no particularly strong evidence of YoshiP being a westaboo.

Well I wouldn't know. I'm not buying a PS5 for one game and I am actively trying to dodge spoilers until PC release.
No shit, that's why I've been reading hundreds and hundreds of posts and took that as a sample OP thread and said as much as it was a representation of most of what I saw.
There is real hate for Yoshida and FF16 on the threads there, I don't get it, I think they're really upset because it's not full on weebified they call it too dark, too adult and grotesque.
Their words not mine.
I like the game, I bought a PS5 just for it, played through it and enjoyed my time with it. I'm not a Jap but I was curious to see the reaction from them as they made it and they're non-stop shitting on the fricking thing.
all of the internet has shitposters, and the idea of wanting something to fail out of spite or personal slight is prevalent throughout humanity. I'm certain plenty of online posters in japan and numerous other countries have their tortanic posters
That said I wish they were all/mostly gone in the next expansion and we could get a new cast already, was incredibly disappointed to see them all in the trailer.
The final area in EW already sucked with the fake death shit. Now that that 's happened I literally have no fear of anything bad happening to any of them, removing the stakes from the story.
>yshtola explicitly explains to you that you can use the orange rock candy to call them again >graha even promises with you to do shit after everything is settled >hythlodaeus even fricking spells it out for you here >thancred even jokes around that he doesn't have a scar for his sacrifice
and speedreaders still complain about muh steaks. Honestly its stupid even to need an explanation for these speedreading morons to understand what themes and the tone of the story in this part.
I don't want to just lolkilloff the Scions and all, but there's stakes, and there's consequences. The story has stakes. The risks of those stakes for our characters don't have consequences. Minfillia sacrificing herself was consequences. Y'shtola becoming blind and Thancred a normie was consequences. Paplymo sacrificing himself was consequences.
Ever since Stormblood, a small handful of side characters have otherwise died and the main characters basically have next to no consequences anymore besides Crystal Exarch technically being "dead" in a roundabout way that many players don't quite get. And there's never been a Hauchefant level of a major side character eating shit, either. So when the characters make light of the fact that there's no real consequences for their sacrifices, that it's basically just there to try to make the endgame feel emotional and little else, it really just drains on one's patience.
No one with half a working brain bought the ultima thule sacrifice as permanent. Streamers crying at those moments are 100% faking it.
The Haurchy part got me, tho.
No fricking shit moron.
The problem is not that they came back, everyone knew it was happening.
The problem is how it happened, it means that even at the far edge of the universe against god that has killed trillions of trillions scions get by untouched.
In a story that USED to have actual danger and consequences to the story and made it impactful, it's fricking dogshit writing.
why do they have so many pointless xov articles

>only his friends because they said they are, have offered him nothing but trouble and emotional baggage on his way up
>No extraordinary or otherwise similarly ordained powerhouses on the team despite several also being initially blessed meaning the WoL still has to ultimately do everything himself
Scions of The Seventh Dawn is such a shit concept for a supporting cast that only gets worse and worse the higher the stakes get in FFXIV but they cant be gotten rid of because theyre literally the majopr recurring characters from expansion to expansion and part of the core cast now.
genuine disdain for the entire founding concepts of this game and i b***h about it so much because purely by length alone it has fantastic small pockets of design, music and art buried in hours of time wasting c**tshit
>estinien isn't strong
>graha isn't strong
>papalymo isn't strong
>yshtola isn't strong
what game did you play
the scale of strong goes from being able to fight a couple of capable fighters single handedly. being able to fight off several monsters singlehandedly. a whole army, to eikons, deities, monstrosities and forces themselves.
i waited literally several hundred hours for the WoL to ludonarratively struggle with something to be helped by a single scion and it never really happened. i dont care about anime power levels or anything like that but something other than "GO ILL HOLD THEM OFF" which in itself is fricking trite wouldnt have gone amiss. having them join in dungeons sometimes doesnt come close to painting them as the supportive and capable fighters theyre supposed to be nearly quick enough for me to care about them.
The weird segregation and handling of it resulted in everyone not the Warrior seeming like a pissbaby as a result.
isn't strong
papalymo isn't anything :^)
we can't blade of light all of the problems of the realm away anon
not my problem. make me a Lord or Significant political figure or i dont care. my job is literally to Blade Of Light shit away not listen to 400 people weep about speciesism for 30 hours and then kill a false demigod- before running off to another country and basically being treated like a level 1 pugilist with no Gil after all my achievements
i don't care if you were a knight or a musketeer or a star onion. you work for me now
Funny enough Ugetsu in Stormblood's Samurai job questline is specifically written to be "ME RUN IN AND UNGA EVERYTHING TO MAKE THING BETTER" and all it really accomplishes is pissing off Musosai and getting his family killed by bugyo in retaliation
Agreed. Zenos should have joined the group in 6.1 instead of Zero.
Yeah, sounds about right
Hermes explicitly says the ancients couldn't effectively manipulate dynamis because they were so dense in aether. Sundered people can because they're not as aether rich.
That's because Elidi-Zenos is the biggest most pathetic jobber in the game. Reminder that at the end of ShB, he was confronted by Elezen Zenos - just a frontline soldier with angry Resonant eyes holding a katana - and his proposed response was to;
Urianger is the only one I give a single frick about.
I always say his name 'ur a Black person'

Urianger and Estinien, no contest. Both have a genuine personality and goals of their own and they're not comically incompetent.
has alphinaud ever done anything useful
yes
like..
when he drew pictures of gosetsu and yugiri to help us find them in kugane
was it more useful than anything Tataru could do in her sleep
Had money in ARR, paid for mercs including the WoL to fight his battles for him. Gave a nice little speech during Operation Archon (which is more than the other Scions did).
In HW he's an impoverished frickup with no connections who comes close to realising he's a child in over his head, but they backtracked because YoshiP likes him and by the start of Stormblood he's back in charge again.
>hires mercs
>immediately betrayed
He's made to be bullied by everything
No as anon said it actually set up a good base for him to grow as a character. Where he realizes he's a naive fricking child who commands respect of jack and shit. So why would a bunch of soldiers actually answer to him and take him seriously? And then it fell by the wayside.
That's exactly how a bunch of mercs and former soldiers would act
>can you believe this fricking goober
>good pay and autonamy to do what we want where we want
>what if that little elf girl doesn't like it
>who gives a shit we don't answer to some kid
Looking back Ilberd was a good villain who played his hand well until
>muh liberation
>muh ala bazinga
>muh past
Ilberd was a great villain who played everyone and got everything he wanted in the end. His entire goal from day one was forcing Eorzea into outright war with Garlemald in order to free Ala Mhigo. And he achieved it. Genuinely the only villain in the entire saga to have actually won.
>Had money in ARR, paid for mercs including the WoL to fight his battles for him
you mean his parents' money
That's how most rich people get their money, yeah.
Alphi because he's the cutest and wisest
Dunno, I furiously mash skip cutscene. The MSQ is a fricking chore I'm forced to do before my goal of making every number go up
Why play the game then? If you're going to skip all the story what's stopping you at this point getting the story skip?
>Why play the game then
It's the least dogshit mmo. Solidly D tier when everything else is floating around the Z.
>getting the story skip?
Principle.
>Island Sanctuary
>Eureka
>Bozja
>Raids
>Houses
>Deep Dungeons
>Variables
>Relics
>Triple Triad cards
all the side activities of an MMO that are usually breaks from the MSQ are literally locked behind MSQ progress in FFXIV. you dont have a choice but to sit through hours of fetch quests and exposition in this game.
if you force someone to play a game for hundreds of hours to get to the "good stuff" theyre going to call everything in the way a shit waste of time. if someone tells me at the end of ARR they think the game is shit because they spent an hour running back and forth in the snow delivering meat then im not going to argue with them as to why they should just to meet a thief with a fat leather butt who appears twice in 60 more hours
Yeah but do you know who pic related is?
>The whole point of the game is the story
Read a single book, please
He's not wrong the story is part of the gameplay.
My favorites are The Brothers Karamazov, Don Quixote and Dream of the Red Chamber. I still think FFXIV has a pretty good story. What now?

Based. I need to get back in. I was halfway through shadowbringers when BG 3 dropped.
If theyre not going to kill them in shadowbringers theyre not going to kill them in EW thancred should have died after the fight he had with NotZenos
Which is why all the attempts to be dramatic and compelling fail, you can't take it seriously when you know nothing is going to ever actually kill the heroes of a story.
>honestly she should have died in SB when Zenos raided the Ala Mhigan camp to actually give it some real narrative weight,
That narrative weight is already achieved by throwing up her doofy shield and Zenos just smashes through it, when it was plenty to fend off Gaius and other threads prior
>G'raha Tia nobly sacrificing himself to give the WoL a chance to defeat Emet Selch would've
Would've been moronic, Shadowbringers specifically talks about G'raha being a moron for attempted self-sacrifice and somehow seeing no other option, he's also been WoL's #1 simp since ARR and somehow every Crystal Exarch stan forgets the fricking basket of sandwiches and the nervous simpering before meetings with WoL
>Thancred never thought of Ryne as a replacement for Minfilia
You're an idiot, play Shadowbringers again
Dramatic weight is not solely possible through character death, please go back to Game of Thrones
Any outraged post about my choice of insult I will be reading as an arrow hitting the mark
>Do you really think Dune would've been better if Duncan and Leto both lived
please don't cite a book series where duncan being cloned repeatedly to keep serving after death is a plot element
I laughed at game of thrones because it's a pretty generic fantasy but dood they frick and curse and kill people and make hot brappy shits on each other and there's incest. So it's totally for adults and isn't generic nerd shit.
Oh absolutely, I was just focusing on the character deaths and all.
HW was the last time any major character was in danger and their sacrifices had an actual lasting impact on others. ShB has a much better presentation but in terms of raw writing HW is the absolute peak.
HW has so many goddamned gaps in the action and long periods where nothing happens that it's hard to actually look at it fondly. I love its highs but holy shit it has some lows and it drags on forever.
Yeah but nothing will ever beat staring down the pope with pure malice and watching the life drain from his eyes. or marching toward nidhogg as everyone else runs away. Pure fricking kino on both counts.
That's partly what I meant in terms of presentation.

How can hag'sthola even compete?
Graha being a simp ran it's course before it even began. It'll never happen because of subhuman fujocancer. But there needs to be a patch or expansion where you just beat that shit out of him and teach him out to interact correctly.
I am... PANDEMONIUMMMMM and I require MORE
Y'shtola literally belongs to my WoL and no one else. I don't care how many times she's died and pretended to die. She's built for his midlander hyurian wiener
I like Zenos most.
>Alphinaud
Rich kid way over his head that caused more mess than he fixed. The one time he acts alone (Shadowbringers in Eulmore), he couldnt even manage to enter the city, while everyone else actually bettered their community, mingled, or did work
>Alisae
The useless half of her duo with
>Papalymo
Irrelevant and overshadowed by Urianger. He cant even contain Shinryu without us turning Omega on.
But truly, the best is pic rel. The man actually gave US hope. I dont think anyone else in the game that isnt a god gives the WoL hope at the lowest time, since its usually us who do it to others. He really needs more recognition.
I didn't give a frick about horseradish in ARR, and certainly didn't care about housefart when he got got. And let out an audible
>pffffft
when his ghost appeared.
>Yshtola
>Saved us in the end of ARR
?
Yes
>died when she used forbidden magic
>rescued from lifestream
>essentially died when Zenos sliced her up since she doesn't reappear until the post expansion patches
>coma dies halfway between stormblood and shadowbringers
>jumps off a cliff edge
>dies
>gets resurrected again
Not killing thancred in Shadowbringers was the biggest mistake
>was in the first the longest
>no longer has magic
>is old man by japan protagonist standards at a whopping 37
>finally gets closure that the minfilia he raised is for all indents and porpoises dead and gone
>finally acknowledges how proud he is of the new minfilia standing up for herself without the baggage of just being a host for crystal mommy
>has a well done death scene and speech
>akshually he's fine just chilling on the porch
Absolute bullshit. I don't give a flying frick how many young japanese girls Squeenix would've pissed off. It was beyond moronic for him to live
Yeah that left a bad taste in my mouth. They ruined his moment. Ranjit should have also died in a double KO.
>man falls over once
>HE'S DEAD
>mechanics of the fight continuously state how dangerously hard thancred is pushing his body
>not in any hype way
>very much in a o shit he's barely out maneuvering ranjit if at all
>after the fight sounds like he's about to have a heart attack because he was
>pitybait sad theme of the expansion starts playing
Yeah, most people read the tone wrong and should have been hyped as frick.
>thematically can only clash evenly with Ran'jit when finally accepting Ryne is her own person with her own dreams and goals and identity
>dies immediately after
Nah m8 Thancred dying there would have sucked.
>old mentor dies as the new young gun embraces their potential and steps up
That's been part of the hero's journey since forever. Thematically it's how it should have been done correctly.
Dying five seconds after a plot resolution sucks wiener.
You can have your lesser opinion, just know it's fake and gay.
This really. The more red flags a character has for imminent death, the less palatable it is. Doubly so for when they don't actually die.
They could've just shown him picking up his gunblade in this shot at the last second and i wouldn't have been pissed at this scene
Good God do I miss the Crystal Exarch.
Now the Crystal Exarch would have been a true credit to the team, bringing something that no one else has. Centuries of leadership experience and all that it entails. He would have made for a good team strategist and advisor among other things.
Yeah, instead we ended up with
>wowee the WoL just shit their pants
>their hemorhhoids have progressed so much the've developed a fistula
>what an icon
Isn't it fricked up that Alisaie and Alphinaud learned to summon Phoenix at the end of Coils and then you just whip Demi-Phoenix out of your ass in Shadowbringers with no fanfare or lore explanation? And they can't give the twins the ability to summon Phoenix without also forcing you to run through Coils, same as G'raha being canonized by forcing you to run through Crystal Tower?

lyse is silent
>god she's so cute i love her so much
lyse speaks
>god this b***h is so fricking stupid, it's actually infuriating. you dumb bawd i just want to beat you until you shut your mouth
lyse made me understand why men who beat their spouses still claim to also love them.
The chatting with Lyse scenes are the best parts of Stormblood. She's only moronic when speaking to other people.
I kept thinking she would learn some form of lesson throughout stormblood. Especially after we went to Japan and freed that nation state. But no. She just ends up on top through sheer happenstance essentially. It was truly infuriating when every interaction turned into
>you have to fight for a free ala mhigo
>nah that would put us in danger
>don't you know about me wanting to fulfill my dream of a liberated country
>you better get on board
>no, we don't think we will
>a few fetch quests later
>o forgive us for not fighting for you
>we have fully righted our wrongs and devoted ourselves to the cause
Isn't that entire thing part of the issue with Lyse? She doesn't do anywhere near what Raubahn or Hien do, yet somehow she's the leader. Why?
Are you guys thinking what I'm thinking?
no
I started FFXIV yesterday, I'm liking it so far but how come I see nobody type in chat? I played for 6 hours and I don't remember seeing another player message at all. Also does the game let me assign attributes on level up or is it done automatically?
The server you're on will go a long way towards how sociable people are in major cities
MY SMOL WIFE KRILE
Estinien, he goes through a lot of changes and I like his big brother thing with Alphinaud.

She used her flow magic and got lost in it, she never died.
Same but it is and we're gonna have to live with it. As recompense I demand the crazy Aztecs in the north being a Bunnygirl empire sacrificing people for a Quetzacotl mkII primal or whatever. Because that would amuse me greatly.

I've kinda lost interest.
>asspulled Dynamis
All they did was give a name to the "power of your will" shit jap games are always going on about.
>"power of your will" shit jap games are always going on about.
Yeah, it's fricking awesome.
it's what let Ash Ketchum use his pikachu to beat a ground type.
It's just too easy to attribute to other things.
Everyone has access to dynamis, dummy. It's not a WoL exclusive thing.
You can't take back the declaration of cute.

The big change is that Dawntrail is out next year with 10 more levels, 6 more zones, 2 new classes and 3 trails at launch with more content coming out in the following patches

does remind me that I wish Au'Ra were their actual goddamn draconic look from the concept art and not the boring ass Japanese waifu with horns and a skin rash vs. big ass malformed anime delinquents
Female Raen look fine for what they are supposed to be. Female Xaela should have looked like that for sure. Also maybe it those LBs don't have to have different gameplay effects. I can always just be purely cosmetic. That being said, I am not even sure myself what race based LBs would even look like.
Other races hold their axe up and their spear down, roes hold their axe down and their spear up
Fair enough, I never paid much attention to Roe animations to notice that. Still, it made me wish each species had more distinct styles in that regard.
Makes me wish too, I like that lalafell get special animations for SMN/SCH/ACN. I wish roes got more animations for holding weapons a certain way, I would fricking kill if they held DRK swords Cloud style like Regula van Hydrus and that one GNB legatus do.

argument is moronic. The only reason we consider the rainbow to have 7 colors is because the guy (Newton) who decided on those colors thought 7 was a magic number, akin to biblical numbers like 3,4, 12 (and 7)

I like watching him pretend to like the game and trying to gamble on his breaking point. I think Stormblood will do it, ARR has almost finished him off but HW goes pretty fast in comparison.

Are ultimates truly the current hardest encounters of all present mmo's?
nah, hardest encounter is talking to a biological female and not making an embarassment of yourself
Easily, yes. It's actually a bit of a problem that FFXIV currently has, almost all content is either pathetically easy or autistically difficult.
Yes and it's not even close.
Mods are heavily discouraged, yes normal players do use them and they are homosexuals but the are meant to be played vanilla and it was a controversy for a JP team who were caught using a mod when the World first race was going on for TOP.
oh
Main plot in endwalker made me miss ARR and stormblood. Premise could have been good but execution sucked

Dude takes his lumps and grows as a character while still being rightfully dunked on when appropriate while still growing the entire time.
For me he's the only one that feels like a genuine friend to the WoL because they've been through so much shit together
He felt like that to me before Alisaie became a scion. Then it felt as though we barely interact with him anymore.
Yeah he definitely took a back seat after HW which is unfortunate
How the frick do I level desynth?
Gear itlv has to be around -50 or more of your desynth exp.
If you have 110 goldsmith exp, you'll get exp from gear of 60 itlv and up, the more itlv the gear has the more exp you'll gain.

Do yourself a favour anons, get yourself some translation plugins and browse jap forums to see how unhinged they are. I thought "Barry" was bad, holy shit are Japanese homosexuals bad, they are completely fricking insane. I can post some screencaps if people are interested to see what I'm talking about
Do it, gay.

Absolutely, it's better content than b***hing about no content, MMO wars, and avatarhomosexualry
I think I'm going down a rabbithole here, I was going to start learning Nippon language as well but if they're just another America, another western copy country then frick that.
it's less they're america lite (couldn't be any farther from the truth) and more "they're still people, and people are a very broad demographic"
The "GoT-style" of FF16 is completely gone after the first ~10 hours or so.
Well I wouldn't know. I'm not buying a PS5 for one game and I am actively trying to dodge spoilers until PC release.
The ramblings of some moronic shitposter who made extremely obvious bait is not representative of the opinions at large, you utter retad.
That literally just reads like you put Barry through 3 Google translates. It's scary to think there's more like him out there.
all of the internet has shitposters, and the idea of wanting something to fail out of spite or personal slight is prevalent throughout humanity. I'm certain plenty of online posters in japan and numerous other countries have their tortanic posters
>10% chance of an overmeld
>lose over 30 materia on the slot
What the frick is wrong with the overmelding system in this
sex
with Garuda
Tataru > Alphinaud > Urianger > G'raha > Y'shtola > Alisae > Thancred
That said I wish they were all/mostly gone in the next expansion and we could get a new cast already, was incredibly disappointed to see them all in the trailer.
The final area in EW already sucked with the fake death shit. Now that that 's happened I literally have no fear of anything bad happening to any of them, removing the stakes from the story.
>yshtola explicitly explains to you that you can use the orange rock candy to call them again
>graha even promises with you to do shit after everything is settled
>hythlodaeus even fricking spells it out for you here
>thancred even jokes around that he doesn't have a scar for his sacrifice
and speedreaders still complain about muh steaks.
In a story that USED to have actual danger and consequences to the story and made it impactful, it's fricking dogshit writing.
scions only get by untouched because hydaelyn charged up your jack-off crystal
Making it extremely obvious and self-aware doesn't make it good either, you moronic midwit.
why do I keep seeing people clipping through the floor in limsa
