Gen 5 looks not a whole lot different from gen 4 though.
Gen IV doesn't look at that great, particularly when it comes how thing sin the overworld get pixelated when they're far away. But when it comes to the battles gen V is atrocious and in a league on its own.

Gen 6 looks fine. Idk why you'd say otherwise. Gen 1, 5, 7 and probably 8 aged far worse
Gen 1-2-8-9 are the worst looking ones. I'm inclined to include RSE there as well, but FRLG look okay.

Not a fake, but I always liked this old "fangame" (it was mostly mockups done in photoshop) since it came after B&W and before XY, since it looked 3D enough it was pretty cool.
