Anon that's LITERALLY how religion works, don't you think adding made up religions to a fantasy world is part of the lore?
Arceus chooses all by itself to have a mere of its fragments be your partner, it's not like you are subjugating god (which wouldn't even be new for jrpgs)
>Arceus chooses all by itself to have a mere of its fragments be your partner,
And then you have Dialga and Palkia the gods of space and time being 100% your b***h. > it's not like you are subjugating god (which wouldn't even be new for jrpgs)
It would, the closest would be SMT and in SMT most gods are born from the human consciousness and aren't real gods.

They should make the fragment thing canon for Dialga, Palkia and Giratina too, it would make sense for them to be unique in the multiverse just like Arceus

1 Creation Trio per universe
1 Arceus per multiverse
>Were "god" pokemon bad for the series?
It screws up the gameplay because supposed gods shouldn't be weaker than randos like Miraidon or Calyrex >Are there any god-mons outside of the creation trio and arceus?
Ho-Oh is explicitly called a god in Gen 2 and the Tapus are revered as deities in Gen 7
>the Tapus are revered as deities in Gen 7
We also see shrines to Celebi and Landorus in the games. I think all of these are supposed to be more like kami or house spirits than straight-up gods, though. >Ho-Oh
This is old-gen lore that pre-dates Arceus and I'm not sure how much bearing it has on the modern games - HGSS connects the Unown to both Ho-Oh and Arceus, but that's it.
The dichotomy between how these two are handled is pretty interesting, though. In-universe, Arceus and the Creation Trio are members of an ancient mythology forgotten by the world - they're only studied by archeologists and the modern world believes their powers to have been fictitious. Ho-Oh, on the other hand, is actively worshipped by the people of the game's world - its ability to resurrect the dead and confer eternal life are taken as fact, its temple is a holy site closed to outsiders, and there are entire trainer classes for its monks and priestesses. I wonder if Western audiences' sensitivity about religion is what made them change their approach - it's easy for a child to draw real-world parallels to a creator god, a trinity, and a traitor - as we haven't gotten any godmons since then.
>Ho-Oh is explicitly called a god in Gen 2 and the Tapus are revered as deities in Gen 7
It's not and being called a god/deity isn't the same as being the embodiment of a fundamental aspect of the universe.
I think the god Pokemon would've been better if they were more involved and did stuff to make the story more interesting, but for the most part nothing comes from it.
>Are there any god-mons outside of the creation trio and arceus?
The lake trio are called lake gods in jp.
Celebi is called a guardian deity of forests.
>Were "god" pokemon bad for the series?
It was the inevitable next phase
gen 1
science fiction story about a genetic mutant (mewtwo, mew)
gen 2
fantasy story with myths and legends (ho-oh, lugia, dogs, celebi)
gen 3
a clash of these two themes with the climax being biology and science vs myth and legend (deoxys vs rayquaza)
The themes and messages were lost on all the children that played gen 1-3 so they naturally changed it to the most simple form of explanation they could pull out of their ass which was ‘lol pokeworld this way becuz pokegod’
>Were "god" pokemon bad for the series?
No, they add to the setting and make the world richer >Are there any god-mons outside of the creation trio and arceus?
Not really. Mythicals are kinda like local deities, with some exceptions, though I wouldnt go as far as to call any gods.
1. Arceus was not ever confirmed to have created the universe, it was only thought to have done so in myth, and Cyrus believing Dialga/Palkia could have done so is baseless and done contextually within a franchise where humans frequently misunderstand Pokemon (Mewtwo, Maxie/Archie with their titans)
2. Arceus draws more heavily from Eastern mysticism, it's design evokes a qilin, enlightened bodhisattva through the 1000 arm shit, and it's tied to Shintoism where every god essentially plays a role, in Arceus's case that of creation, not necessarily of being some kind of omnipotent god like in Abrahamic religions
Arceus has gotten frequently misrepresented thanks to the fanbase, not Gamefreak themselves who actually made a fairly compelling way of making a Shinto/Buddhist god into a Pokemon along with the inherent mystique to it.
It's when Legends Arceus came along, written by the same dumbass homosexuals who never actually understood what Arceus is, turned it into both the Judeochristian God and simultaneously made it an utter homosexual while spitting in the face of much of the mystery, and of course the redditors both here and everywhere else in this godforsaken fanbase began basedfacing over the ""EPIC LORE""
Tl;Dr "god" pokemon weren't bad for the series, nu-gamefreak and modern poketards were bad for the series, same as usual
The people that worked on Legends have always been working on the series. You think it was written by westerners or something? Your headcanon was just wrong.
Old good, new bad
Legends Arceus game new, so bad
Legends Arceus game must equal Legends Arceus writing
Therefore Legends Arceus writing new and bad
Such is the circular moronation of the guy, don't blame him, blame his mother for drinking during the pregnancy to withstand the physical abuse of her husband

holy cope
>It's when Legends Arceus came along, written by the same dumbass homosexuals who never actually understood what Arceus is
The main scenario writer was Toshinobu Matsumiya who was on plot scenario for DP in the first place.
Arceus was always meant to be the defacto creator god, it was bulbapedia and their shinto bullshit that was wrong
>"god" pokemon weren't bad for the series
Yes, yes it was always bad. Even without Arceus you'd have the first and only set of pokemon to actually be their elements in that Dialga and Palkia ARE time and space elevating pokemon to a realm way beyond what were before.
No. They're the most interesting legendaries by far.
Sinnoh was peak of the series and PLA is 10/10.
No other region could pull off a Pokemon Legends:(region) game as well as Sinnoh
Maybe Unova, but that's a huge maybe
God mons are awful and the definition of jumping the shark.
I already thought the weather trio was too powerful but at least I can buy their existence as the personification of the absolute strongest a Pokémon could get. The constant need for escalation leading into gen 4 godmons just made it so they had no room to go elsewhere in future games. I've always preferred local myths and legendaries.
>Were "god" pokemon bad for the series?
No, no idea why anyone would think that >Are there any god-mons outside of the creation trio and arceus?
Considering it’s implied that every life form (or at the very least every pokemon) was originally a Mew that transformed, it’s possible to theorize that there is a being tasked with populating every fertile planet with Mews, so that they can create an ecosystem there. This was never attributed to any member of the creation trio, they created the universe, not life specifically. So yeah, a pokemon capable of generating a great quantity of Mews to populate planets possibly exists, roaming the universe.
Design wise I would imagine it to be based on Odin from Norse mythology, due to Odin being the "all father". It could have a spear (referencing the spear of Gungnir) that it throws into a planet to populate it
No, they were based and redpilled and added rich lore to the games
>see this aspect of reality? it's actually controlled by a le pokemon!
that isn't rich lore. It's just dumping the shark.
Isn't that every concept of a major deity/spirit ever
Ok redditor

Yes because the judeo-christian god is a being we can capture and live with casually.
>the judeo-christian god
that was a bunch of israelites being "nuh huh, our God can punch yours in the dick with impunity because we said so"

Nugen issue

I have several good examples to the contrary but that'd be spoilers.
I have it on good authority that creator gods are weak to chainsaws.

Absolute headcanon.
Maybe, but a pretty widespread one that was heavily hinted at in the first few gens
>Were "god" pokemon bad for the series?
They should never have been something you can catch
>Still no Pokemon based on demonized deities/false gods like Astarte/Astaroth, Enepsigos/Hecate, Moloch, Dagon, Baal/Beelzebub, etc
