It was rushed to meet the 360's launch and was made by Microsoft era Rare. It's an okay game but really unpolished and inferior to the first game in all ways but performance (which isn't hard to surpass considering the original game's framerate and is irrelevant now since a sourceport exists).
No it was a dark age for most things. Between massive consolidation of the industry, fad driven design, horrible DRM, ugly graphics, missed opportunities and WoW swallowing half the market it was a terrible time.

Definitely, we weren't going through a cultural rot and people produced media not just to make money but because they had a passion for it as well. ESG, DEI and the modern day politics have sucked the soul out of everything. That combined with organizations like Blackrock, people Larry Fink and inveitable march toward corporations becoming one big monopoly have stifled any real creativity. It was great, not just the lack of political correctness but the fact that every franchise I loved wasn't as mainstream as it was now. People don't understand how everything has been flooded with normalgays, ruined and ultimately turned in to a mess.
