>Were the sequels really that bad?
only decent thing after F.E.A.R was extraction point everything else is shit >Why is the original still held in high regard?
Because its still so fricking good
>Were the sequels really that bad?
Yes. They're console shit.
>Why is the original still held in high regard?
Satisfying, fun gameplay.
Kickass gunplay.
Good map and "arena" design that enhances the ones above.
Fancy graphics and physics for its time that still hold up.
>only decent thing after F.E.A.R was extraction point everything else is shit
No. Extraction Point was already trash. I don't get why people praise that expack so much. It's boring as frick and goes absolutely bonkers with the plot.
Am I the only one who liked Perseus Mandate? It had a small map pack outside of the normal game if I remember right, where the whole goal was to make it through a tiny 10 min long mission, I used to replay the frick out of those because it was all just combat scenarios.
No, both PM and EP are great. >but muh lore
I don't care, F.E.A.R is a great game because it's fun as hell to go through well designed levels and shoot enemies with solid AI. It's all about the gameplay and good atmosphere. Both of the expansions are just more F.E.A.R so I enjoyed them a lot.
FEAR was just a unique game in general, it was not trying to pander to anyone, it had an identity which it being an FPS horror and that's it.
2nd game is literally a CoD game, while also trying to over explain the lore, that shit is never good.
Not sure about the third, don't care.
I wished that they never made direct sequels.
I never got why people worship the original besides some cool tech with the lighting and enemy A.I.. The gunplay is average, the setting is boring offices for most of the time, and it's not scary at all when it tries to do horror.
>besides some cool tech with the lighting and enemy A.I
Enemy behavior makes or breaks a shooter. If they do the same thing every time it just becomes and exercise in memorizing their locations. If they have different patterns of behavior or the placement and types of enemies has a random element like in Halo CE, you can't just autopilot through the same way each time, you have to react to the differences.
F.E.A.R. 2 is the Patrician Choice
Better level design
Better fps campaign all around
Better enemy variety
Cool mech sections
No reddit jumpscares
Better cast of characters
Naked Alma everywhere you go
SEXO
I'm just glad I never listen to Ganker.
Goddamn, F.E.A.R. 2 is good.
>Better level design
No. That's literally one of the biggest nose-dives of the game, alongside with worse AI.
It also looks super cartoony, on top of suffering of the late-00s' bloom and blur phenomena.
Worse melee, worse shotgun, worse pistols as well.

I said it was decent and I think thats fair

No. I thought that would've been clear from my rant.
PE is the superior F1 "DLC" of the two.
No, both PM and EP are great.

My disappointment when playing FEAR 2 for the first time is difficult to describe in a few words only (which is all most here are willing to read).
Safe to say, I love FEAR 1, and FEAR 2 was an absolute fricking travesty.
2 is good, 3 is garbage. The overall plot arch just overextends it's welcome after the first one.
>Were the sequels really that bad?
Fear 2 yes, i just stared fear 3 though
>Why is the original still held in high regard?
Amazing fps game.
The first one probably is well liked because of the gunplay.
Also FEAR 1 has that japanese horror vibe while FEAR 2 feels fully western.
2 is fine, people are overreacting, theres plenty of amazing moments.
3 is an actual pile of dogshit

I like the dlc from 1 and I like Fear 2 too
What a great fricking game, I enjoy both expansions though but yeah Extraction Point is better than Perseus Mandate.
Would we ever see a F.E.A.R 4?
hopefully not

What a based image, sadly most AAA devs will learn thing from FEAR, even if they were forced to play it.
the fact that most games that come out now are worse than fear is really depressing.
Yes, they're awful. The only decent follow-up to the first game is the DLC.
Fear 2 sucked, the Alma Wade plot arc should've stayed with 1. I have no desire to deal with 3.
