not a handheld guy but of the cube games i still play regularly
>f-zero gx
>ninja taisen 4
>super monkey ball
all endless fun
The GBA had video carts.
and a camera...also, it was one of the first HEAVILY bootlegged consoles (the gbgbc had bootlegs, but nowhere near the amount the gba had...the ps1 was well into its lifespan until burners became 'mainstream'..also 'famiclone' games became mass produced around the same time as the gba bootlegs)
>without gimmicks
Probably should not have used the GCN as your example image
A gimmick is "a trick or device intended to attract attention, publicity, or trade." The Cube obviously has some goodies and peripherals, but it wasn't dependent on any gimmick the way the Wii is, neither commercially nor creatively. It's literally just your 'Game'Cube
>a trick or device intended to attract attention, publicity, or trade
Never heard of the GBA link did you? The biggest gimmick to trick children in existance. Not to mention many Nintendo games have a lot of content permanently locked behind buying the same game twice. Oh wait you're a zommie so you don't remeber Metroid unlockables locked behind $200 of cables and hardware add-ons.
>trick or device intended to attract attention, publicity, or trade.
Like the mini disks?
All amusements feature gimmicks. Using the word gimmick like a derogatory when referring to amusements shows you really don't what is going on when you play a game.
>GC
Crystal Chronicles is great with a friend but also pure soul alone
Pikmin 1
Super Monkey Ball
>GBA
Mother 3
Goemon HDA
Battle Network 3
Part of what makes FFCC so comfy is the map and seeing your little caravan
not being gay and pretentious like main ff also helps
I started playing Pikmin today because this thread got me interested, really liking it so far.
The GameCube was riddled with just as many pointless and arbitrary peripherals as the Wii, the only difference is they were not mandatory. GBA had video carts, E-Reader, tilt games, and stuff like WarioWare which albeit good was still pretty gimmicky for its time. Even the original Game Boy had GB Camera and GB Printer.
See
. There is a huge difference. 90% of GC owners don't even know what the thing in your picture is
>90% of GC owners don't even know what the thing in your picture is
So unknown even Nintendo advertised it
Advertising it doesn't mean anyone gave a frick.
>No you don't get it, Nintendo LOVES to lose money!
yeah, exactly. its not like nintendo has EVER released a commercial failure of a console, twice.
I had/have one of those from back in the day
The Gamecube mario parties are the best in the series imo
how would you rank the gamecube mario parties?
>he didn't play Odama
Love both to death but I'm not going to pretend
>Mario
>Zelda
>Metroid
>Smash Bros.
weren't the highlights
Anyhow:
WarioWare, MMZ3, Kururin Paradise for GBA
and
Viewtiful Joe, Tales of Symphonia and RE4 are the first that come to mind
Symphonia is shit
>Symphonia is shit
It's one of the few JRPGs of its era that has a lot of compact little dungeons with quick puzzle solving almost à la Zelda, methodical action combat with 60 FPS instead of a featureless turn-based system and a perfect solution for random encounters. World, soundtrack and story offer everything you could realistically ask for and the characters look great and have a lot of charm. Then, multiplayer on top of everything else. Not sure what your disconnect is, but I'm happy that most people love it
It was good but it's puzzling why they didn't bring over the better games from around the same time like Destiny 2, Rebirth, Destiny remake just because they used 2D assets.
>Viewtiful Joe
You will forever be my homie.
the xbox came out after the gamecube though
The Xbox had a dvd player
Thats a moronic metric
I wish Sega just committed to porting everything to this console and developing for it rather than splitting all their shit up between ps2,GC,xbox, and even leaving shit to just die on DC and even Saturn
Gamecube really was the king of 6th gen
Said no one ever
MMZ(2), Swordcraft Night Story, Yugioh World Championship 2006
love me soulcube
I miss Nintendo's GC/GBA output
>literally 7 Metroid games in 5 years
>2 Pikmin games back to back
>2 completely unique Zeldas
I don't think GameCube is especially more pure than a Wii. But the last pure systems would probably be the so-called fourth generation ones. After that it had already become a big corporate business.
>I don't think GameCube is especially more pure than a Wii
wat? forced wii waggling gatekeeps at least 30 really good games
30 is a bit high. Also a lot of those good Wii games are actually good because of the controls and wouldn't be as fun otherwise, see Red Steel 2
>lets you play all nintendo handheld games on the go
gba was a beast
Reminder that TTS with the restored OST is kino
>inb4 nooo, you aren't supposed to see the cool thing
Close your eyes
>restored OST
doesn't restore any music from cutscene and some of the gameplay parts
Game consoles have long had silly peripherals and software intended to give them functionality beyond just gaming. Even the Game Gear had that TV tuner thing.
Be honest, did you actually play on it outside?
You HAD to play it outside if you wanted to experience the full range of colors the screen was actually capable of. The perfect angle at the perfect time of the day made it possible to see everything perfectly clear.
I hated the led attachments because of all the glare and the rest of artificial light just couldn't do it.
I literally sat outside to actually play it
You can’t see shit on it
All the time, on the bus to and from school, lunch hour. My friend's house had a deck with an awning in his backyard and we'd play pokemon or whatever game on our gba there during the summer time.
All the time. I was that little homosexual that brought it everywhere, including restaurants if we went out to eat. A full five minutes of playing before the food came, wowzers!
Is the AGS-001 screen different than the original with the backlight off? I recently got one for the first time, and I'm having zero issue seeing the screen if I use a light that's positioned purposefully. I've begun to immediately dismiss all of these people I see complaining about the GBA screen, but I'm wondering if they're not identical.
i wish the oot port was native
From what I've heard it's decent, no? I just refuse to play it because Ganondorf shouldn't have bug blood
yeah its find its just preference. works for the time but right now ive got no reason to go to it over just playing the N64 version. MQ is gay as hell. They put OoT on gamecube fricking twice. But MM runs like dogshit. and not including LTTP on the collectors edition is purely because they wanted to sell the GBA version where they added the annoying link yells.
Super Monkey Ball (1 or 2, both are good in their own ways)
Soul Calibur II
REmake
>(1 or 2, both are good in their own ways)
2 sucks tbh. 1 was lightning in a bottle
>no one else ever mentions BK
It gets more love than Skies of Arcadia.
what are some gamecube games I should play if I don't have any friends to play with locally?
>what are some gamecube games I should play if I don't have any friends to play with locally?
here you go my man
https://www.metacritic.com/browse/game/gamecube/
huh, didn't know Metroid Prime was the highest rated gamecube game on metacritic.
If you have any interest in the survival horror genre that was so popular on PlayStation then play eternal darkness. Seriously good.
I have REmake and RE2 but I don't have a CRT and they look darker than usually on my shitty TV, even after turning the brightness settings up.
>silly sized discs
>analog stick inside hexagonal box
>asymmetrical shoulder buttons
>top circle logo can be swapped out
>weird as frick face buttons
>mario game with sprinkler
>plug in GBA to play mini games
>no gimmicks
stick inside hexagonal box
pretty handy for games like monke ball. didn't know it was disliked
>pretty handy for
pretty handy for making it a second d-pad, unfortunately there is already a d-pad, making this a questionable decision and limits the functionality of the stick
>without gimmicks or multimedia bells and whistles
This is probably the worst example you could have picked to make your point.
Nah, that would be 360
I just found out that the Dreamcast can natively play Saturn games
Made me google, frick off.
Seriously? I just dumped like $800 USD on Saturn shit and I have 3 CiB Dreamcasts in my closet.
>$800 USD on Saturn shit
Bro you can get a console and an ODE for like 300 bucks.
unironically could've saved sega
OP is a homosexual who thinks the gamecube not having DVD capability was a good thing.
Is the matrix gaemon mini DVD onit?
This Black person was too poor to afford a DVD player!
Pure shit, perhaps.
SNES was the last good Nintendo.
Hey, if you were actually old enough to be gaming during this gen you'd know GC sold so poorly it went on sale like halfway through the gen, it was the cheap console. I bought it just with pocket money and "points" from trading in old games cause why not. GC was the cheap or "poor" console if there was one that generation.
>Were these the last 'pure' vidya systems released without gimmicks or multimedia bells and whistles?
what youre describing would be consoles with no functionality whatsoever if there isnt a game inserted. which would be the n64.
If pic related counts, then Nintendo Switch. No multimedia bells (I think YouTube in burgerland?) and as many gimmicks as the GCN.
Gamecube
>Resident Evil 4
>Tony Hawk's Underground
>Animal Crossing
GBA
>Pokemon Emerald
>FFT Advance
>Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper
was this game actually good or was it all hype?
Yes if you were into the survival horror genre, it has a very unique take on the genre
>Were these the last 'pure' vidya systems released without gimmicks
>try to stir up sales by connecting them instead giving people online multi-player
Online multiplayer sucks in 90% of games in 2024. Nobody should give a shit about what did or didn't have online multiplayer in 2003.
it's not on PC. it's on Android and Switch lmfao
Non-Nintendo only:
Doom II
GT Advance 3
Castlevania Aria of Sorrow
Beyond Good and Evil
Timesplitters 2
Rogue Leader
>GC
F-Zero GX
Killer7
Viewtiful Joe
>GBA
Wario Land 4
Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow
F-Zero: GP Legend
The first Nintendo DS models (phat and lite) were as "pure" as the GameCube in that regard (basic menu without multimedia capabilities), so the last true plug and play Nintendo console would be the N64
Giftpia is great
>Giftpia was given a total score of 34 out of 40 by Famitsu, earning it a "Gold Award"
Can't wait for another 5 years of translators ignoring gems like this in favor of dating shit and generic JRPGs
Famitsu also gave Nintendogs 40 out of 40, eat my frick Black person.
