Nintendo gets a pass since they have an identity which is why when other companies do the same shit that they do are rightfully ridiculed and bashed for being lazy for not adding good graphics and a functional story to their games. They are always called shovelware crap or shitty indie games.
You're making it sound like they went underbudget and released prematurely simply because they couldn't hit the graphics goals they wanted.
That isn't the case. If they put more money into graphics, everything else would have suffered because of it, because that's how the allocation of resources and budgeting works.
This is intentional. Nintendo has had this exact philosophy since the 80s, and they've talked about it verbatim. It's why everyone was playing games on their Wii while the PS3 had exactly one playable game. It's why we got more AAA Switch titles last year alone than the PS5 has lifetime exclusives to date.
I am saying that the hardware limited the game. it limited draw distance, LoD, enemy variety and respawn rate, weapon variety etc.
FPS and visual quality too.
It could have been so much more on better hardware.
Doesn't matter as the games are amazing regardless.
All these years later and Halo 3's Xbox 360 graphics are still on the level of the best graphics of today's blockbuster titles.
Anyway, most people don't care about how realistic shit looks; they just want smoother gameplay and, sometimes (depending on the type of game), good physics.
And the most important takeaway is graphics don't make a game more fun. There are games with great graphics that flat out suck, and games with cartoony or pixel graphics that are super fun and addictive.
Partially right, yes. However, they didn't also apply this mindset to the disgusting and putrid desire for storytelling. As a result their games are often polluted with movieshit.
It was just an example of how their games make the exact same mistakes as God of Soi and Uncharted and Persona. From a purely Nintendo exclusive standpoint, this is a huge problem with their franchises like Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Splatoon, Xenoblade, and they definitely don't do anything about the trash infecting other exclusives of theirs, like Bayonetta 2 and 3.
Whether they developed the games directly or not, they are responsible for this shit polluting their games. Even as a publisher they should be putting their foot down and saying "no, stop putting in cutscenes, stop putting in voice acting. You WILL focus on gameplay."
I just think you're moronic cos you're wrong. Xeno 2 is one of the worst video games ever made.

>you're wrong
How so? Shouldn't a publisher have control over a developer? Without them, the dev gets no money, so they don't make a game. AND they should have the right to deny them the ability to publish switch games unless it's up to their standard.

No bc they're not Nintendo games.

If Nintendo has any control over them, either creatively or financially, then they should be considered Nintendo games.
Of course, I could cede that point to you and still have examples to pull from. Alot of Nintendo brands like Metroid and Zelda have these inherent problems.
Yes.
The majority a vast majority of people who play games do not care about high end graphics, inducing me.
Only people that do are PC enthusiast who like to overclock etc and push the performance as much as they can and zoomer tier morons who are still glugging the dregs of the console wars from the 00s.
Generally people just want to have fun and play good games.
Hence the reason we have pixel shit and indie games doing so well despite being poor visual quality in comparison.
As for nintendo specifically, they also have the niche family orientated gamers under their belt, children, parents who rarely play etc. They do not need to cater to high end visual performance at all.
Though seeing vidya has reached mega diminishing returns on visuals, they should just reach the current specs with their next console.
That being said, if they then do try and compete performance wise with sony (xbox is dead) and now the steam deck, if anything they will bring in much more third party devs and increase their overall game sales and player base.
So now is probably the time they should not specifically try to compete, but make a console of equal quality in performance to the PS5. It would make sense financially and for future brand recognition.
yes, because PC was always gonna come out on top anyway, and Nintendo has been at this longer than anyone else - including PC's, so naturally they know better
What did they lose? Playstation is doing well and is basically keeping all of Sony afloat at this point. And Xbox is backed by Microsoft which is basically PC.
>What did they lose? Playstation is doing well and is basically keeping all of Sony afloat at this point.
Not really, its not dead but theyre dying. See picrel. Consoles (non nintendo) are shrinking year after year and the market is receeding, turns out, the anti-PC psyop they orchestrated failed, more millennials AND zoomers are getting gaming PCs, mostly because theyre more tech literate so the lies dont dissuade them, and, of course, their favourite autistic youtube or twitch streamers are all on PC.
The age old question of "why buy a console if you have a gaming PC, and if you have neither, why buy a console instead of a gaming PC" just kills is
Consoles are just prebuilts with more limitations and less rights, hence why people finally woke up and most game sales are better on PC, more people play on PC with their friends (which was one of the only remaining reasons to have a console)
So the market share is shrinking and the future is going to be PC, hence why both companies are pushing hard on it >And Xbox is backed by Microsoft which is basically PC.
MS own windows but they dont really make much money from it, Win 8, 8.1, 10 and 11 were all free upgrades. Of course they make bank on selling this and that but the idea that owning windows means they get a cut of PC gaming? no. Not really. They want to be selling their GAMES on PC, not just the OS.
Both companies are losing on the console front, consoles are just not valuable assets anymore, anti-PC rhetoric is failing, consumers are moving on. Sony and MS will be fine as companies, of course, but the consoles are dying.
Nintendo didnt compete, so, they are growing much like PC is.
I don't think anybody expected or believed the consumers to eat this much shit so happily
So much so they're actively sandbagging IPs and games and hardware because their customers are still: subscribing to their own internet / renting roms (selection of 10s out of 1000s, making sure to not include games they want to sell again) / paying full price for cell phone games (and DLC)/ buying the same (10 year old) SOC for 1000% markup over and over again (and controllers)
The only reason nintendo isn't dead in the ground is because they keep a standard for their games.
Even if the idea is shit the game will come out polished and functioning, this reliability and comfort level attracts a lot of casual players that don't like to deal with exposed wiring or imperfections and are willing to pay a premium both monetarily and morally to get it(read: disney adults). Same as disneyland, or apple pay out the ass for a high effort illusion, no need to worry, take a picture with mickey/look how smooth the touch screen is.
Or blizzard was another one, as late as overwatch it was drawing in this crowd because is overwatch groundbreaking? not even close, tf2 did the same thing better and that was the joke on launch. But it looks good, it feels good, the characters are well designed and likable (see: rule34), it's because of polish. Nintendo has polish, even when the frame is flimsy it still looks nice, and grown children love nothing more than the escape that provides. They wouldn't care if you had to skin a child to make it happen, so long as they don't have to see it.
>Were they right in thinking that pursuing better and better graphics was a fool's errand for consoles?
>filename
I didn't think it was gonna be that bad but it really was that bad. What the frick lmao

if you permabanned everyone that has posted an image with a fake transparent background the median IQ of the website would rise considerably
You're confusing better graphics with more realistic graphics. Art design trumps all.
It is transparent, you just need to open it as a png
>Art design trumps all
I agree but look at BotW, TotK those games could have done so much more if they had more powerful hardware.
BotW and TotK look like dogshit though, they’d unironically have looked better with more realistic graphics
>look like dogshit though
frick off you pleb, they have a brilliant art style
You're making it sound like they went underbudget and released prematurely simply because they couldn't hit the graphics goals they wanted.

Hardware only impacted visual quality and performance, but thats always going to be the case, what games cant perform or look better.
>doesn't matter as the games are amazing regardless
Ehhhh, I wouldn't say this.
They only made 7/10 games on the switch which people pretend are masterpieces because the other two don't have any games period
seething
It's true though. Name one all-time classic made exclusively for the Switch
Yes.

u jelly?
Iwata ruined Nintendo and I'm glad he died.
They just wanted profit and made a cheap product they could sell for a premium. Pretty hard to chase graphics when your “console” is actually a tablet
Yeah but they also thought the same for gameplay and story.
I wish they had that mindset for storytelling. Then their JRPGs would cease to exist, and the Switch library would be a little better.
Nintendo have never developed a JRPG.
Miitopia is the only one I can think of. And Fire Emblem I guess.
Partially right, yes. However, they didn't also apply this mindset to the disgusting and putrid desire for storytelling. As a result their games are often polluted with movieshit.
Nice looking Nintendo developed games there.
It was just an example of how their games make the exact same mistakes as God of Soi and Uncharted and Persona. Nintendo don't develop Pokemon or Xenoblade. Besides Splatoon isn't even a JRPG.
Then they should forbid Pokemon and Xenoblade from being published on the console that they own, until it reaches higher standards.
Lmao, moron.
>says the guy defending this
I just think you're moronic cos you're wrong. Xeno 2 is one of the worst video games ever made.

Shouldn't you be making an AC6 thread that will unceremoniously die after a few necrobumps
I'm already enjoying an AC6 discussion on /m/.
Among the 6 hours of cutscenes and voice acting which was your favorite? And who's your favorite waifu?
>Among the 6 hours of cutscenes
You okay bro? That don't sound like AC6.
One of my favorite movie games, I want to marry Allmind
>showcases a playthrough of the game where 90% of it has no dialogue or cutscenes to speak of
All i want is
CLEAR
NON BLURRY PICTURE
CONSISTENT FPS
But every company dodges this shit so hard. P3 reload is like a fricking miracle.
Yes.

Why would you need to improve when you can make people do this with your product?
Yes
>PS competed with PC and lost
>xbox competed with PC and lost
>nintendo did not compete with PC, hasnt lost.
What did they lose? Playstation is doing well and is basically keeping all of Sony afloat at this point. And Xbox is backed by Microsoft which is basically PC.

Why spend money improving your games? Their moronic fans are willing to pay $60 for old n64/SNES games.
For companies that need to have actual standards it wasn't a fool's errand.

No, which is why the Switch 2 is a ridiculous powerhouse of a console jumping 2 generations.
deluded
