If you read messages on the ground or hit every chest to mimic check them, it's not that hard to find that place. Going down the hollow tree was very cringe inducing, but I'll never forget the moment when the music starts playing. Pure Ludo.

It is blatantly obvious based on the amount of detail and effort put in Ranni's quest that she was the games Lady in Black, or rather Priscilla. In DaS Priscilla was going to be a level up waifu that was on a quest to kill her dad Seath before this idea was scrapped.
Ranni feels like that original vision was going to be an actual thing, but then for whatever reason, probably the same moronic reason Priscilla was changed, they side lined it and brought us Melina.
The difference is, they had all the detailed workings of Ranni's big quest that pretty much covers all the content of the game and gives you a big insight into the story compared to any other.
