Demon's Souls is definitely among the worst of them not by any purposeful design choice but because they had more entries to flesh out the concept. That being said, it's definitely still worth playing. Even Dark Souls 3 is at least decent even if it feels like "Heh, remember that thing from Demon's Souls, well it ISN'T back wink wink" the game.
so just like Dark Souls, Dark Souls 2, Dark Souls 3, Elden Ring then
got it
No you don't understand, Faith was so disgusting in DeS that every Souls game after had to suffer the consequences.
>Demon's Souls is definitely among the worst of them not by any purposeful design choice but because they had more entries to flesh out the concept.
They have never done that
>Demon's Souls is definitely among the worst of them not by any purposeful design choice but because they had more entries to flesh out the concept.
I wish that was true.
Yeah, that's true. I was on Ganker when it came out and literally watched the English-speaking souls community be created in realtime, but at least the community still had a general sense of "figure it out for yourself, don't look stuff up until at least NG+"
I think the deluxe versions were only for Europe and Japan. I remembered preordering this and having to drive an hour away because the only store that had it was this obscure otaku shop, and I don’t remember anything about an American special edition.
Yea it wasn’t in NA. I had a euro one from EBay. Strangely enough I went to GameStop to get a used American disk to get all the trophies again and somehow they sold me another pal version.

The strat in DeS is to visit 4-1 and get to crescent falchion and level your int for one shot spells. This game has witchcraft which are just other spells that draw upon a different source of power, it has the predecessors to pyromancy and they're broken. The basic soul rays and all that are great too of course, and your falchion is great.
I always do a melee class first because it’s more fun but you need twice the levels to put into various bullshit to be viable. Magic can just pump everything into a few stats early and melt half the game with the starting laser.
Strength, endurance, vitality. Meanwhile as mage just dump it into magic for early game and stay away from everything. I dunno I’ve played both ways quite a few times and melee always requires more gear and levels to kick ass. Meanwhile magic literally get everything they need to one shot all the 1-1 enemies from 30 yards away right from the start.
Then you run out of MP, then what? And you still need some vitality for every single build. Not to mention how much spells cost, and with the best ones being locked behind a boss soul. If you’re a good melee player, you ge the advantage of never being hit and dealing out massive damage. If you’re a good spell caster, you have the benefit of not being hit and dealing out mediocre damage.

You get a magic regen ring right from the start as royalty and you can grab a sword that scales A with magic right in 4-1. Freke you can run to easily in 3-1 once you’ve leveled up a bit. Spells do not cost a lot but you don’t even need anything but the starting laser until you get the better laser from the 3-1 boss. You’re just wrong and it sounds like you don’t really know what you’re talking about.

>melee first
So how is a person who’s playing for the first time supposed to know exactly where to go to get these? As a first time player, melee requires less investment. Just put in str and hit stuff.
The best souls game >All these shitters saying it's a weaker entry
DeS has the most creative bosses mechanically and some of the best levels in the series wtf are you tards on about?
Soulkino
An experience that has not been matched or surpassed since. So much of the atmosphere was lost even with the switch to Dark Souls, not to mention all the other sequels. There will never be another game like it.
if you play the original version 1.0 chinese english, jpn, eng korean the tendancy was beyond fricked, you died in soulform it away from white but at a lesser scale than in body form, Give it a try, it's fun but sucks ass without the online system to help (since it was so heavy focused for the mechanic)
yeah you can still patch it (as long as sonys servers are still up), though if you were going to patch it you might as well play the us release since it has all 4 pre-installed iirc. The only reason to play 1.0 is to feel what it was like, and abusing the blood stain glitch
>There has to be more to it than that. The latter loves the combat and lore. The former gush about everything else.
DeS was difficult but it wasn't the main focus of the game, at its core it was about exploration and haunting atmosphere. Like if you go back and play it now, it's trivially easy because that was never the point.
DaS is a better game in almost every way but after it started getting popular for all the wrong reasons they leaned more into the LE HARDCORE GAME FOR HARDCORE GAMERS reputation (see: "Perpare To Die Edition"). From started designing it for those players, knowing that they'd just look shit up online anyway
The combat and lore became cherished later on but the first game threw you into novel situations where you had to really use your head to approach it, or situations that players often would never endure in games prior. I don’t think many fans would appreciate a boss that can delevel you or a Yurt (who’s superior to Lautrec) because it would feel like the game is actually playing tricks on you or betraying your trust. It’s not a big deal now because a lot of this shit has unfortunately become tradition, but an actual fresh, novel twist in the campaign would upset a lot of latter souls fans
The PC release of Dark Souls changed the meta of discussion. Brought in too many casuals and normals. But yeah man DeS-only days were civil and filled with tons of fun and discussion.
I miss Demon's Souls level design because it was built around the idea that you only have a single checkpoint at the beginning of the level. Dark Souls was still okay, basing things around Firelink and with bonfires being a bit more sparing, but by Elden Ring you literally have multiple graces within sight of one another and it all feels so bland. There is almost never the sensation of "oh thank frick, a bonfire" anymore even within "Legacy" dungeons.
Your first time playing a Souls game should be a magical experience. A lot of modern devs might have ripped too much from it now though so maybe not as much.
3-2 is the best level in even after all these years. it's such a good area, and tells the story of latria very efficiently with soul's pulp style at its best. No item descriptions are really needed, you experience the state this kingdom is in through the senses.
I love Boletaria for its horizontal scale and Latria for its vertical scale.

Do not play the remake
morons on these threads are literally crack smokers if they say anything demon souls did is somehow worse than the other games they sharted out after it.
The only exception is the healing grass mechanic. Surplus is bad in any game ever existed.
I know it's not important but god I fricking hate the luck system, the item drop rates are pants on head moronic Like cloud stone chunks LMAO or marrow stone, or god forbid moonlightston I know pure blade gets memed but at least you can farm for it unlike the drops that only come from lizzards
It’s a great game. I wish we had gotten another with the no bullshit here’s 5 dungeons to explore as you wish blueprint but instead they went in the exact opposite direction. I always found it the most addictive, especially for making new characters or generally fricking around because you can go anywhere almost right from the start and progress your character pretty quickly. And there’s really nothing else, just dungeons and leveling up like god intended.
Also I just put 100 hours into the PS5 version and I’m still fricking around with new characters, co-op and invasions. Not nearly as bad as Ganker says. It definitely lost atmosphere in some spots like Prison of Hope and the race swapping of the generic blue phantom is idiotic but otherwise it’s plenty good enough and it’s still the same great game underneath it all. Some areas like 4 and 5 are actually good renditions. I’m just happy to have a version of it with extremely active servers.
I’ve been invading people for the past few days and I get summoned non-stop. Also for the Monk boss fight non-stop at level 75. Loads of blue signs everywhere. Surprisingly very active on DeS. Elden Ring I haven’t played coop or pvp in a while, probably my least favorite souls game outside of 2. It was very active when I played it though.
The realization that it's the best Souls game followed by the realization that Souls games all have really terrible combat and the exploration doesn't make up for it all the way.
Easiest souls game. It was my first souls game, so I have a soft spot for it, but I still do consider it good and worth playing.
it's going to be hard to avoid comparing it to the future souls entries, but you should. As long as you play it thinking of it as its own unique thing, you'll enjoy it a lot more.
Soul
Second worst souls game but still okay I guess
This is only true if you play all the other ones before Demon's. The inverse is true if you played Demon's Souls first.
>DeS players have stockholm syndrome
I disagree. It was my second souls game and I'm able to recognize it as the weak link that it is.

I wish that was true.
I played DeS first and it has a special place in my heart because wikigays didn't exist yet, but it honestly doesn't hold up very well at all.
wikidot existed at the time, and it mogs the frick out of any fextralife garbage imho tbqh
simplistic black text on a white background - home..
Yeah, that's true. I was on Ganker when it came out and literally watched the English-speaking souls community be created in realtime, but at least the community still had a general sense of "figure it out for yourself, don't look stuff up until at least NG+"
>deluxe edition
Huh, I didn't know it had one
I had it. It just came with an art book and strategy guide.
it also had one of these
I think the deluxe versions were only for Europe and Japan.
US had a deluxe edition but it didn't have the soundtrack CD, just the artbook and strategy guide. Also had a code for some PS3 theme BS, I think.
How does DeS run on emulators?
Under the right configs almost perfectly aside from some minor graphical issues at certain points
Log off, play it and find out, moron
The only GOOD Souls game, before it got nerfed, casualized and streamlined for the masses.
>if you use magic everything will be a trillion times easier the game
so just like Dark Souls, Dark Souls 2, Dark Souls 3, Elden Ring then
got it
Only mid to late game magic is good in those games. In demon souls magic is good from the very start
The strat in DeS is to visit 4-1 and get to crescent falchion and level your int for one shot spells. This game has witchcraft which are just other spells that draw upon a different source of power, it has the predecessors to pyromancy and they're broken. Melee is better
I always do a melee class first because it’s more fun but you need twice the levels to put into various bullshit to be viable. Magic can just pump everything into a few stats early and melt half the game with the starting laser.
This is bull. Melee requires less investments than spells.
Strength, endurance, vitality. Meanwhile as mage just dump it into magic for early game and stay away from everything. wow that box art is soulless, original was a masterpiece
The best souls game
>All these shitters saying it's a weaker entry
DeS has the most creative bosses mechanically and some of the best levels in the series wtf are you tards on about?
It is the weakest entry, but yeah the bosses rank consistently the best in the series.
better music than the umastered edition
to ragdoll enemies
because it have havok physics
Soul and kino
Item burden is cancer but aside from that it's better than DS1 and 3
imagine the obtuseness of from software storytelling and quest direction, but before they had any experience with the genre they invented.
Soulkino
An experience that has not been matched or surpassed since. So much of the atmosphere was lost even with the switch to Dark Souls, not to mention all the other sequels. There will never be another game like it.
dying is soul form puts you towards black tendency, have fun!
That's only for body form, anon, and it doesn't take effect until visiting the Nexus again in a session.
if you play the original version 1.0 chinese english, jpn, eng korean the tendancy was beyond fricked, you died in soulform it away from white but at a lesser scale than in body form, Give it a try, it's fun but sucks ass without the online system to help (since it was so heavy focused for the mechanic)
*it took away
Even with the multiplayer servers down, don't the patches still get provided?

an amazing game
I just beat it again yesterday
Why are DeS fans and Souls fans totally different?
>fans
it's past your bedtime
gay
>5 minutes in
>"the combat is unremarkable"
>close video
I don't need to see any more. He's right.
There has to be more to it than that. The latter loves the combat and lore. The former gush about everything else.
>There has to be more to it than that. The latter loves the combat and lore. The former gush about everything else.

The Lost Soul Arts of Demon's Souls
One got into the franchise for what it was, the other got into it because others were into it
""Souls"" """"fans"""" now includes DS3gays, Bloodbornegays, Sekirogays and Elden Ringgays
The PC release of Dark Souls changed the meta of discussion. Brought in too many casuals and normals. But yeah man DeS-only days were civil and filled with tons of fun and discussion.
Best level design in series, closely followed by ds1
After that it's mostly just run and press attack with no gimmicks, with few exceptions
Tons of great level design, an importance on minding your surroundings, damage types, and damage resistances, and a lovely atmosphere and soundtrack.
I miss Demon's Souls level design because it was built around the idea that you only have a single checkpoint at the beginning of the level. You also potenially had 99+99+99+99 heals.
the definitive edition
deluxe edition*
Possibly the most influential game of the 21st century.
We will see "Soulslikes" (read: Demon's Souls clones) be created for decades to come
its so esoteric that even though its the easiest its still the most alien, some parts are still hard too
A hard, but fun time 😉
Your first time playing a Souls game should be a magical experience. A lot of modern devs might have ripped too much from it now though so maybe not as much.
Boletaria is awesome at least
I love Boletaria for its horizontal scale and Latria for its vertical scale.
Why play Deluxe over the original? What am I getting or losing out on doing this?
Kino.
3-2 is the best level in even after all these years. it's such a good area, and tells the story of latria very efficiently with soul's pulp style at its best. No item descriptions are really needed, you experience the state this kingdom is in through the senses.
Do not play the remake
morons on these threads are literally crack smokers if they say anything demon souls did is somehow worse than the other games they sharted out after it.

An extremely easy adventure game. Demon's Souls is more about the puzzle of beating a boss as opposed to hitting the roll button at the right time
An adventure game that Black person Miyazaki slowly turned into a shitty Japanese action game series
1-1 and 1-3 are some of the best level design in the entire series.
It's turning 15 years old soon
I know it's not important but god I fricking hate the luck system, the item drop rates are pants on head moronic Like cloud stone chunks LMAO or marrow stone, or god forbid moonlightston I know pure blade gets memed but at least you can farm for it unlike the drops that only come from lizzards
What made DeS so special compared to later games?
The fact everything in it is original while everything after became a callback based on the foundations laid by demon's sovls
It’s a great game. I wish we had gotten another with the no bullshit here’s 5 dungeons to explore as you wish blueprint but instead they went in the exact opposite direction. How active are Souls games on PS5?
I’ve been invading people for the past few days and I get summoned non-stop. Also for the Monk boss fight non-stop at level 75. Loads of blue signs everywhere. Surprisingly very active on DeS. Elden Ring I haven’t played coop or pvp in a while, probably my least favorite souls game outside of 2. It was very active when I played it though.
May boot up the remake and break some people's weapons with acid cloud at the old monk
Is Great Axe the most POWERFUL weapon of all time?
a game that's somehow simultaneously overlooked and overrated
The realization that it's the best Souls game followed by the realization that Souls games all have really terrible combat and the exploration doesn't make up for it all the way.
to hunt crystal geckos because every weapon require that material
you will need a bow at all times.
Easiest souls game. It was my first souls game, so I have a soft spot for it, but I still do consider it good and worth playing.
