Genre is obscenely popular with artgays because they think it's easy to make one. Artgays are gays, thus they make gay shit (female protag and awful gameplay). Genre is less popular with talented devs, but that means non-artgay metroidvanias are likely in the genre for a reason (i.e. it's part of the design, not just there because it's a trend) and more tightly made.
KEIZO said that shigatake helped him a lot with game design/animations on top of doing the art thanks to his vanillaware experience, you can really see it, what a based lad

Yeah honestly most of the "censored" stuff i've seen so far has been a massive upgrade. And a lot of random little details nobody else has noticed.
My only gripe is the original game went a LOT harder on the gore/body horror than Revision.

I don't remember anyone saying anything was censored other than the marionette design and Astraea in chapter 4, and the former was idiots thinking she was naked from low quality NND video screenshots that washed out the colour of her clothes / skin. Astraea is a frickup though because her dialogue relating to it is still there in the remake.
Most people never played the original though, naturally.

-no retry in arena
-retrying a boss loses you the consumables used, and your equipment/skills/etc. setup is reset to when you first fought the boss
The latter in particular is infuriating.
