GoW had trash combat up until GoW III, and even then it wasn't anything special. It definitely beats DMC in production value though.
It's a game that holds up surprisingly well considering how old it is, but you're really not going to be impressed by it. Play it if you're interested in video game history, but there's plenty of better action games you could be playing.
