What are some fun games where you explore a 3D world at your own pace talking to people and getting into monkey trouble?

Mega Man Legends 1 and 2
is the combat and camera as wonky as it looks?that's always been my main aprehension into playing it. it does look pretty beautiful though
not really a big deal imo, but Legends 2 does have a more modern control scheme
MML1 has archaic controls, but on an emulator you could pretty much customise anythingyou want. MML2 is a twin stick shooter.
If you're on /vr/ specifically asking about 3D games and are squeamish about camera controls, you ought to call yourself a homosexual and bail out of the thread immediately
>camera controls are irrelevant in a real time action shooting game
Going back to some of these older games without camera controls is pretty jarring if you're not familiar with the levels.
I played it for the first time last year and got used to the controls after an hour or so. They are bad but not old PC roguelikes bad.
New Vegas is the best example of that but not /vr/.
You're not really gonna find something very close to Shenmue. Yakuza games have some of that though. You help plenty of people with weird and wacky stuff through sidequests.
it doesn't really need to be like shenmue and i do agree there is no similar game to it. games with focus on world building and exploration is basically what i want, but not necessarily dungeon crawlers if you know what i mean. and if i just asked for adventure games people would be recommending monkey island or whatever the frick where they have to cram jokes into every single piece of dialogue, and i don't really like the clicking on every pixel on screen to solve puzzles.
i played shadow of memories recently and it scratched a similar itch
i disagree that yakuza is the closest to shenmue, but that's another autistic spergery i have
Shadow of Memories/Destiny, excellent recommendation
Town is pretty small, its a very early PS2 title, there isn't even a way to rotate the camera, but the story is excellent and it does exactly what OP seems to want. And its quite short, you can beat it in an evening if it grabs your attention.
what game is this anon ?
Maybe actually read his post? Why do zoomers completely lack an attention span?
But that screencap doesn't look like Shadow of memories
and yet, it is
>Shadow of memories
How do I play this on PC? Can't find it on steam , is there a torrent for this ?
Why don't you try googling Shadow of Memories PC Download before shitting up the thread? Why even bother trying to play games on PC if you're incapable of doing anything other than clicking the buy button on Steam?

Unironically
Looks like shovelware. Is it truly good? Tell us more about this dog named J.
the game is genuinely fun but has a lot of fillers missions that bring the whole thing down. it you know the type of that era, collect all the hidden thingiemagigs and shit like that. oh no my baby is stuck in the roof go get him. it just really needed to have all that fat trimmed out. that said I didn't finish it for those reasons, maybe it gets better
Postal 2
Yakuza 1 & 2 (PS2)
Nomad Soul
Headhunter
Shadow of Memories
Deadly Premonition
No More Heroes series?
maybe the Way of the Samurai series?
I like this video which compares Japanese vs western "open worlds" and how the former is more focused on smaller towns or district and engaging with NPCs, instead of freedom in big cities
He also mentions Kenka Bancho and weirdly enough, Bully (since it's from GTA devs but designed more like a Japanese take on it)
then there's weird comfy lifesim stuff like Chulip or Animal Crossing
I'd also rec detective type games, not retro and more western open world but L.A. Noire
Try the Blade Runner point and click game even if you don't like point and click, it's really great and somewhat open
>Deadly Premonition
I thought it was just some generic hardcore horror game that I remember I had the choice to get over some other game. Boy was I wrong when I got it as an adult lol. I don't usually play japenese style games unless it's resident evil. I fell in love with this game and it's humor! I never knew it would pull me in so hard!
There's a game called Midnight Stranger, where the basic premise is you walk around and have interactions with people. I want to play it, but I need to figure out how to run Windows 3.0 games on DOSbox first.
Majora's Mask. I guess Pathologic, if you like weirdo slavjank.
The only pathologic game that is nearly playable is 2. Forget about 1 and 1 HD
>Pathologic
Great game, tough b***h of a game but fair. Although you can't play Pathologic at your own pace, it's a frantic race to save as many lives as possible to get the best ending.
2 is an improvement on almost every aspects but it only offers 1/3 of original storyline. Seeing the sales number and current events I won't be positive to see Bachelor and Changeling DLCs.
You don’t talk to people, but Tail of the Sun is a great oddball game that lets you explore at your own pace.
The Witcher series
>getting into monkey trouble
Come again?
he wants to throw poo at people
Donkey kong country
Persona 4
Morrowind. Stellar lore and atmosphere, and the last Elder Scrolls game that let you do what the frick ever. Add Tribunal and Bloodmoon to the mix and you've got a solid adventure that can easily last hundreds of hours if you want to experience all the game's various questlines.
Or just run around naked punching mudcrabs and getting high off skooma.
Strife?
Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion
