Path of Exile okthxgoodbye
>Last Epoch
This felt so bad to me yet people keep praising it. I honestly don't get it, it felt so weightless and the animations looked extremely amateurish. It's like I played a different game from everyone else.
same. i don't think there is collision, your character just floated pass the mobs
You're not the only one. It felt like my spells and abilities had no impact. I think I got to around the 40s before uninstalling.
it's not about weight, witch no arpg never had, but build diversity, skills, loot, crafting and fun.
Grim dawn is the only one that does weight right. Enemies can be knocked down even if they aren't killed right away, which makes the entire thing feel satisfying.
>Enemies can be knocked down even if they aren't killed right away
fukin what
I played that game for 500 hours and I have no idea what you are talking about
Knockdown is a thing, if you're using Blitz for example.
lmao they are just ragdolls, every game has those.
>every game has those
show me a clip of last epoch and poe having ragdoll. moronic newbie
Easy.
dude....yeah, I'm pretty sure they are just ragdolls, shit flies fricking everywhere, it's not knockdown
Blitz literally has knockdown, it works on normal enemies and most hero monsters. Don't remember the other skills with this effect though, I think it was on transmuted Demo bomb and somewhere else.
Yes smaller enemies are always ragdolled the frick out when you use skills like that tremor thing from soldier, or the charge attacks. Even if they don't die they still fall on the ground consistently unlike shit like PoE where every enemy stands still even when dying.
>witch no arpg never had
diablo 2 was built entirely around weighty combat, FBR FHR FCR. grim dawn has ragdoll physics. wrong and zoomer newbie take. also learn to spell
there are a couple classes and skills that function correctly which make it feel like a normal game, but then the rest of them are dogshit
for example the whirlwind skill works pretty well and its permutations do also, so if you just ww through the game its almost an acceptable arpg
that's what I did, beat the game, then started a new character and had serious issues
Same, i think its unironically shills and contrarians
Sacred
But that's pretty much all of them.
Honestly there aren't any.
You can go and try the niche ones now such as Djinn's Curse, FATE or Darkstone.
Tried Fate las night, its cheap and worth it
Tried Martyr las night, got it on sale for 10$ otherwise I think i could of killed myself, the game came out in 2018, costs 50$ and feels like a shitty PS1 game.
The Van Helsing series is liked by some. Same devs made Warhammer 40K Martyr, which I liked.
My personal arpg favorites:
>Grim Dawn
Very solid game with an interesting story
>Wolcen
Insanely fun with all the good stuff like loot filter, a pet that picks up stuff, god tier skill system, and insanely good story with good graphics
>Warhammer 40k Inquisitor Martyr
It's a really fun game if you want the 40k setting
Games I don't really like
>Titan Quest
Bugged in regards to 4k resolution and the Greece setting is just garbage. Greece mythology is just boring if you already saw it thousand of times.
>Torchlight
I don't like it at all. I don't know why, but I somehow can't enjoy the game
>All Diablo games
Diablo games are not fun for me. Diablo 2 is just too slow and the skill system too moronic. Diablo 3 feels like it plays itself. Diablo 4 just feels like a tech demo where the actual interaction with the world was put in by an intern in the last week before release.
>Wolcen
I don't remember loot pets being in there when I played it on release and a bit after. Guess I have to give it another shot.
It's a dog and a wolf only, if I'm not mistaken. It's not like you can choose between a handful.
A separate point, but I hate that some ARPG's are online only like Last Epoch and 40k Martyr. I despise the idea of being kicked out of my groove because the dev's server connection randomly shit itself.
Last Epoch just requires you to log in and after that initial log in you can switch to offline mode. I'm playing it on my steam deck, runs solid above 45 fps, hitting a fairly consistent 60fps even
>Diablo games are not fun for me. Diablo 2 is just too slow
>Diablo 2 is just too slow
Zoomzoom, Diablo 2 is ADHD compared to Diablo 1
nta but... Diablo 1 is a different experience for me, being slow is part of the appeal for me.
Diablo 2 just feels a slot to play.
Diablo 1 is amazing, and I believe that it's better than Diablo 2.
Why is Diablo 1 not sold on battle.net? Ive always wanted to play it but if im gonna I wanna buy it and not use a random third party website ive never been to to download it.
>Gog offers permanent license
>Gamers ree
what happened with Diablo 1 rights?
Blizzard still owns the rights but let gog sell keys. Nothing to deep there. Old game no work on new platform. Big think here.
also
>Greece setting is just garbage. Greece mythology is just boring if you already saw it thousand of times.
You have no culture nor brains to appreciate it.
>Wolcen
>Insanely fun
Pick one.
The thing I like about grim dawn is the combat and builds aren't totally dependent on gear. You can get decent stuff just by playing normally.
The story is okay but nothing special. Maybe for the genre it's good, due to lower standards.
Dungeon Siege
he said good arpgs. not a vampire survivors clone
I fricking love Dungeon Siege so much. It's the only game I've ever played that felt like playing Lord of the Rings. One long continuous fantastical journey, never knowing when the next town will be, wondering if you should go back, going through treacherous dungeons, all of it was so great.
It's also very fun to micromanage all your 8 dudes during dungeons and stuff. A shame the 2nd game went with a more diabloish approach and just 4 party members.
Partybased ARPGs need to come the frick back.
>Partybased ARPGs
name 1 (three)
Dungeon Seige 1 2 and 3.
Throne of Darkness
Dungeon Siege 1
Dungeon Siege 2
Wtf is a green mage?
dots and braps
I'm also highly interested in playing a party based ARPG. A squad of mercs each with their own strengths and weaknesses, surviving one encounter after another. Only thing that kind of sort of comes to mind is Arkalash but not really its more of a timed puzzle game.
Truth is it's much easier to do a game like that if it's turn based.
There are quite a few pure-dungeon-crawling turn based rpgs out there.
Closest thing I can give you is probably Icewind Dale.
Monsters Den
>420 reviews on steam
I'll get it on a sale, for sure.
If you have flashpoint you can also play Monsters Den: The Book of Dread which is basically the same thing but without all the gay open world bullshit
what game has the most interesting class building?
While I really like Grim Dawn for that, all classes are very much homogeneous.
You can mix any class skill tree with any other class and it's mostly a matter of picking up a damage source that fits both. It's fun as far as ARPGs go and Grim Dawn (on Veteran) has a very balanced difficulty curve which requires you to actually play the game and not take unintended damage.
try Chronicon. starts slow but gradually reaches a speed-clearing spamfest in the best way.
also, Undecember is underrated. it's essentially a Korean take on PoE with better balance (almost every skill is viable), better QoL, less playerbase psychological manipulation, and less convoluted bullshit. I recommend a completely F2P playthrough, and only consider stash tabs once you reach the endgame and want to keep playing.
I actually started playing Chronicon not long ago, I'm at the endgame. It's really fun but a bit grindy and repetitive. You do end up being a demi god. I kept seeing builds people made with hundreds of thousands of hit points, no idea how I get that much but I need it as I get one shot on mythic 7
Skyrim
Are they adding seasons to Wolcen, or are they working on Wolcen 2 now? Does anyone know?
Nox
>Enter ARPG thread
>Someone asks for recommendations
>Never a single game I haven't played to death six times
>Shadows Awakening
>Wolves of Midgard
I got you bro.
>Shadows Awakening
Didn't really get it, played for a bit, found it too boring
>Wolves of Midgard
I'll try that out, actually. thanks
>victor vran
Played for 20 hours, not very good
>tale of immortal
shit
>cat quest
fun for around 6 hours, not really an ARPG though
>9th dawn
played all 3 games for a bunch of hours, not really ARPGs
>lost ark
shit
>fate
60+ hours and counting
>divine divinity
finished it on all characters at least once
>baldurs gate dark alliance
played ages ago, waiting for a nice sale to play it again on steam
>ys origin
absolutely love the ys series. finished the solo ones a bunch of times. don't really care for the party ys.
>champion of norrath
is that the early access one? I'm waiting on full release
>champion return to arms
will try this out thanks
>xmen legends
>marvel ultimate alliance
the setting truly doesn't interest me but I can give those a shit eventually
>give those a shot*
i thought you were exaggerating but you actually played more than i did. jesus. do list some i aint even heard of
>some i aint even heard of
Apart from the ones mentioned ITT I've played quite a bit of:
>Djinn's Curse
Lots of random events and quests, playthroughs feel fresh even though it has MMOish combat
>Book of Demons
Extends the ARPG definition quite a bit but it's a story-book approach to diablo 1 with a card drop system instead of skills and very limited movement. I feel it's more fun on a controller
>Eternium
Mobile trash I played for a while on my phone while pooping.
>Xanadu Next
Very Ys in nature but at least equipment changes your character
>Darkstone
Play with a party of 2 and solve weird cryptid quests until you can beat the dragon. very comfy
>Nox
The best combat out of all of these, also one of the best uses of magic out there. Not too traditional in most senses and apart from the UI it has some oddly modern design choices for its age.
>Revenant
Never finished this one but I like the atmosphere. Very old and clunky, but soulful.
ctrl+F
>victor vran
>tale of immortal
>cat quest
>9th dawn
>lost ark
>fate
>divine divinity
>baldurs gate dark alliance
>ys origin
How is the 9th dawn series and tale of immortal?
>tale of immortal
shit traversal, but if you're a chinese cultivation weeb, it has some cool shit like joining a sect, learning their style of martial arts, rivalries, tournament. but combat is like 2d game
>9th dawn
combat basic but it has side stuff to do outside of it like life skills
>champion of norrath
>champion return to arms
>xmen legends
>marvel ultimate alliance
darkstone
Any good rogue-like inspired by diablo?
yea. delete your character if you die
Just play hardcore mode you imbecile
>thinking hardcore is the same as a game designed around new builds, new gear, each run
hardcore is the same as a game designed around new builds, new gear, each run
yes you can use the stash for new gear and builds. first time playing arpgs? stupid fricking homosexual
Give up, you wouldn't get it mr brainlet
hahaha
https://twitter.com/davidbrevik/status/1443967992736280578?lang=en learn some history. little homosexual
>twitter
sorry I don't have a twitter account
well ignorance is bliss. and you're a very happy tard. btfo
I wouldn't call Silverfall "good", but it's a bad game I enjoyed enough to finish multiple times with different builds. Though I never got through the DLC, the gameplay loop gets too boring at that point.
Chronicon
Slormancer
PoE is the king but it also requires you to have no life
there's just so much to do and you are always seeking that minimal increase in DPS in the endgame
No offence lad, but I think the action combat approach by Wolcen and Diablo 4 surpassed it. The only thing it got over other aRPGs is the item system and the amount of different active attacks. PoE is just the king in getting people addicted and as you said, stealing people's time.
D4 combat is boring as frick, but it made me crave Lost Ark combat
Dungeon Siege 3 on the highest difficulty with a controller, absolutely not joking. Played it only as Lucas though, but the combat got legitimately good and fun after the beginning, and the bosses require learning their movesets and finding a winning tactic.
The giant spider boss from an early sidequest was the only time when you encounter some unbalanced bullshit due to its friendly fire vampiric healing in melee range.
Gauntlet count?
qrd on chronicon, halls of torment and hero siege?
i only played chronicon and hero siege, can definitely recommend chronicon
hero siege is a little too simple/easy for me, almost feels like an idle game
chronicon is basically 2d diablo 3, suffers from the same problems.
I want a Diablo 1 clone. Why is no one doing this?
Diablo 1 is a roguelike and not vey actiony oriented.
Diablo 1 is perfect for a more soulslike approach with manual blocking, slow movement, deliberate attacks, etc.
Chronicon
>Does open world better than D4.
how did they do it?
worth replaying or am I going to have a rough time realizing it was all nostalgia?
I recommend the RebornHD mod for: widescreen, higher loot table, more enemies, stronger abilities and overall rebalance.
>higher loot table, more enemies, stronger abilities and overall rebalance.
How absurd are these, because I mostly just want proper widescreen
Is there a way to just get the resolution changes, actually?
Alright I found a mod just for that
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1vgLqhEfBL4m-865My399q8KiCtZGp_w7
Haven't tested it myself yet though
>sacred
god damn its been awhile since I touched that
tempted to reinstall for nostalgia sake
I wish this game fricking worked properly in modern widescreen without horrid stretching and UI elements
Also 2 was lackluster
I think you've played enough garbage. Go play a real video game now.
Try Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup
Takes too much brainjuice for your average ARPGoon. They want to think about numbers go up while putting on gear, not the actual turn by turn fight. They don't even want to see boss mechanics, they just want the boss to die in one hit.
This genre is dead. What scratches the same itch for most people is now Vampire Survivor clones.
ARPGs will soon join the RTS gang as dead and forgotten genres.
>This genre is dead.
>D4 is the fastest game Blizzard has ever made, despite the game's shortcomings and Blizzard's shit-tier reputation
Doesn't seem particularly dead.
Siege of Avalon
Dark Souls 1, Dark Souls 2, Dark Souls 3, Sekiro, Elden Ring, Bloodborne, Nioh 1, Nioh 2, Demon Souls
