What are some good games like these? Tried playing Maniac Mansion and it was so old and had ridiculous dead ends.

Grim Fandango
Leisure Suit Larry 7
The Longest Journey
The Neverhood
Dropsy (not retro but still pretty good)
Lucasarts games like Grim Fandango.
Sierra games like Gabriel Knight.
Simon the Sorcerer 1&2.
Broken Sword series.
Discworld 1, 2 & Noir.
Toonstruck.
Tex Murphy series.
Sherlock Holmes: Case of the Rose Tattoo.
Callahan's Crosstime Saloon.
The Book of Unwritten Tales.
The Neverhood.
Sanitarium.
The Longest Journey if you don't mind the story going nowhere and the author shitting all over it in everything he made after.
I’ll try grim fandango
Play Toonstruck too, it's great. Also I'd straight up just skip Maniac Mansion and just play Day of the Tentacle. If you feel like returning to Maniac Mansion you can just play it in Day of the Tentacle anyways.
Day of the Tentacle
Sam & Max
Flight of the Amazon Queen
>some good games like these
Well, that's a Graphic Adventure Rabbit Hole.
More games like from LucasArts?
>Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
>Full Throttle
>Grim Fandango
>Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
>Sam & Max Hit the Road
>Zak Mkracken and the Alien Mindbenders
Games that are similar in style specifically to Monkey Island, with lots of comedy and a themed setting?
>Space Quest series
>King's Quest series (I recommend the remakes of the first 3 if you're new to adventure games and don't like dead ends)
>Freddy Farkas - Frontier Pharmacist
>Leisure Suit Larry series
(The early Sierra adventure games heavily went in the direction of the "Losing is Fun" mentality, so just be warned)
Graphic adventure games in general?
>Conquests of the Longbow
>Legend of Kyrandia
>Lure of the Temptress
>Codename Iceman
>The Colonels Bequest
>Curse of Enchantia
>Escape from Delirium
>Innocent Until Caught
There's a plethora of Adventure games out there, so unless you just really like Tim Schaffer's writing and pirate themes, you're bound to find more to your liking.
Oh, and just an FYI, old-timey adventure games generally assumed you read the manual before-hand, and a lot of the time they include clues and vital information.

Thanks. I'm playing Grim Fandango now and it's great.
if you can find Maniac Mansion Deluxe it's a fan remake with better graphics.
you may not like it either but it's an easier pill to swallow. at least it was for me since i was new to this game and the original has aged poorly if you're not familiar.
If you like Star Trek at all, 25th Anniversary and Judgment Rites are fantastic. They even threw enough money at the original cast to come back and do their voices. They're a little less forgiving than Monkey Island, you can get Redshirts killed if you're not really careful.
>Maniac Mansion
>ridiculous dead ends.
There's not grabbing the postage off the package when playing without Bernard, choosing the wrong direction on the telescope, wasting the developing fluid with only Michael and Jeff in your team, and...? I really can't think of any other way to get stuck in MM. The deaths are mostly obvious, and very few. As long as two people are alive, you can always get one person out of the dungeon.

>wasting the paint thinner
>making the Edsel take off without getting the tools out of the trunk, or putting the meteor in if playing for that ending
>the rest are all variants of the ones already mentioned
Would have been faster and easier if you had just posted those two dead-ends.
what are some good dubbed games like grim fandango and Monkey Island 3?? the narrative gave them life, for me they are the best of the genre.
also not retro, but do you consider life is strange as an adventure game??
You mean games with voice acting?
Leisure Suit Larry 7
Sam & Max Hit the Road
Al Emmo
Gabriel Knight
Leusire Suit Larry looks like coombait. Is it any good?
When I say Leisure Suit Larry 7, I actually mean Leisure Suit Larry: Love For Sail, which is the 6th one, because there is no LSL 4. It makes talking about the original series somewhat annoying.
The first 3 are considered classic adventure game titles. 4, 5, and 6 are considered lesser in quality, but still good adventure games.
Love For Sail is the last genuinely good LSL game, and it's also the most raunchy. Before that title, nudity was uncommon, mostly relegated to easter egg material, and it was mostly adult situations and references that made up the actual content. Love For Sail brought all of that easter egg material up front. It's also more funny than it is arousing.
Is the second remake of LSL1 any good?
That looks pretty kino.
Yeah, played it a few years ago on release and it was actually really awesome— high production values and very lovingly made. I especially love the feature that lets you flash your dick to people; more of the point n click games should have an Easter Egg function like that.
These types of games are always hard to me. I always had to look up walkthroughs when I was stuck. Anyone else?
Rule #1 of classic adventure games:
Checking a guide or video doesn't mean you're stupid.
The correct solutions rarely require critical thinking.
It's best to check a video or guide, and bypass the frustration.
Does DUNE count? I'm also interested in playing KGB/Conspiracy.
Probably my favorite overall.
