Doesn't require prior knowledge. Strange Journey is a fun dungeon crawler, definitely check it out, especially if you already like Etrian Odyssey and similar games.
SJ is harder to get into than SMT IV and SMT IV: Apocalypse since SJ is a dungeon crawler
