If it was a cold, it was a really bad cold that still killed a lot of unprepared people I know. Catching it made me feel sick in a way I never felt before, and I was lucky and careful and didn't catch it until a year in when it was less virulent.
That said I also hated how we just unquestioningly shut down society and derailed the economy and everyone's lives over it for way longer than necessary. And how the powers that be used BLM as a way to distract us from all that.
The biggest problem is that it didn't go far enough. Half-assing the shutdown made it last 2-3 years. If literally everyone stayed home for two weeks, it would've been over in at most a month.

One thing I'm not sure about is that while you are right that milsims do cover some of what I'm talking about, I wouldn't call things like Mud Runner milsims. Simulators more generally, but even then a 'simulator' really covers a specific kind of software focusing on real life hardware rather than an approach that focuses on more granular interaction.
I would like a game that's basically Arma 3 but instead of being about in the army you're doing something else like being a detective, or searching for someone, or being hunted. I've looked on mod sites/the workshop for Arma 3 but not encountered anything like that sadly.

There is nothing wrong with adding complexity to actions that might be simple button presses in normal games. There should be more games that have mechanics and simulation of systems like Receiver when it comes to things like weapon handling.

First time I played an FPS as a kid, I fully expected it to work like that, so I was really nervous that I'd do something wrong.
After figuring out it was literally just point+shoot I next spent ages worrying about reloading, since I assumed you'd lose the leftover ammunition.
Was kind of disappointed at how simplified it all was.
Oh man, that could potentially be a lot of fun. I remember that active reloads in gears of war were so much fun. Can you imagine if you had to hold the reload button and a trigger while you wiener the joystick to simulate a bolt action receiver. I'm not saying that's exactly how it would have to work, I just mean more involved mechanics with the controller for various game aspects. It could really add a lot of tension and incease the skill ceiling.

I mean I used to hate books until I got older and have vivid recollection of why I hated them so I completely understand why you would hate books, but to be fair aswell I also started with manga which was far more palatable, plus I almost exclusively read fiction (usually sci-fi or fantasy).
But even if I was to stick with manga or comics specifically, I can't think of a single turn based isometric RPG with "depth" for example that has a better story than the top like 50 things I have read, this goes for books, light novels, western comics (yeah i'm shocked too), manga, and korean comics, and I have forced myself to play most of the popular ones for at least 10 hours a pop, and the gameplay sure as hell doesn't make things better.

I think the best way to compare is to look at adaptations. I can not understand how someone would choose the books over something like the Game of Thrones TV show, I think it’s mainly the lack of music with books that completely kills the competition for me. Random/forced encounters in JRPGs are good design when the combat is centered around bigger picture resource management (like older SMT and FF games). Avoidable mob fights is only a good direction if the game is centered around constantly regenerating resources or in the moment execution instead (Xenoblade, FF13, cc/ac-based Tales games, etc).
7th gen produced some of the best JRPG combat systems ever and we are worse for moving away from those kinds of games.

Preordering games does absolutely no harm to the industry. The developers are not getting money ahead of time and you're only charged when the game is "finished" and shipped. No money leaves your bank account at any point during development.
This is distinct/different from reserving a game or backing a kick-starter where you very much are paying early for something not released yet and should be looked down upon as such.

Nobody plays Last of Us for it's shitty gameplay, they play it for the story and you can get the same experience from watching a youtube video.
A story gets more intense if you experience even a fraction of what the protagonist is experiencing. How you would classify the gameplay as shitty is beyond me, it’s probably the most realistic shooter there is (TLOU2 that is which has the same gameplay) so if you think that sucks you do not find real life combat interesting either which makes your opinion not worth much

And you get that from watching or reading their story and then empathizing with what they're going through. Gameplay takes you out of a story, imagine if every time you wanted to advanced a chapter in a book you had to solve a sudoku puzzle or some shit. That's why novels and movies will always be superior storytelling mediums to games.
