Hope you've got a bro to play with.

MM4 is literally the best of the classic games.

    Anything by Sunsoft
    Anything by Capcom
    Anything by Konami
Most things by Nintendo themselves, minus a few really early games

Pro-Tip: Avoid early Sunsoft games, their story was one of redemption

It's too outdated to be worth playing if you don't have nostalgia. SNES is alright.

    SMB3
Megaman 1,2,3 (4,5,6 is pretty much the same but with not enough to make them worth playing)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The arcade (TMNT2)
    Duck Tales (not 2)
Section Z (frick you difficulty bullshittery)
Metroid, but you're better off playing Metroid Planets which is a fan project with some QoL and updated sprite work to suit the higher FPS.

I remember loading up Metroid on my NES Classic and getting my shit pushed in three screens in. My friends and I beat it back in the day but man it’s really fricking hard.

Yes, Metroid 1 is extremely low QoL. Map is pure memorization, you have to fill up your health from minor drops constantly, and boss fights are kind of pathetic too.

Oh yeah, and vertical hallways fricking EVERYWHERE.

Also getting hit WHILE going through doors...

      >Metroid Planets
That looks nothing like OG Metroid. The only thing you need to play Metroid is a basic map which were on paper back then.

    Duck Hunt
    Super Mario Bros
    Super Mario Bros 3
    Zelda
Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr
    Metroid
    TMNT
    Final Fantasy 1 & 2

      >TMNT
I would say specifically TMNT 2+3, 1 is really rough. Most people only know the beat-em-ups, and for good reason.

There are none. Every essential games have been ported to better hardware, remade into better products for modern convenience, or were never as good as people thought they were in the first place.
The NES has become obsolete. I say this as someone who was 5 years old when the NES first released and have been an avid gamer my entire life.
