Considering the devs straight up said that without smite 2 (and it being a success), smite 1 was going to have the plug pulled in a few years after a slow decline in content until then, I’d say smite 2 isn’t really going to have the legs smite 1 did. It’s also got the most garbage loot boxes I’ve seen and I am reminded why overwatch’s “pay to outright buy” the skin you want is superior. Also they have like 3 passes going ok right now in smite 1. It’s a fun game at times, and the skins look great and have all unique voicelines, but it is the most nickel-and-dimey monetized western video game out there with massive amounts of fomo. I can’t in good faith go back to it even if the monetization was far less predatory

They put out a video about new icons a few days back and when I watched it they were unironically saying pure-purple icons were more readable than clearly contrased yellow/purple-on- blue-backgrounds. I used to play it quite a bit, but it just looks bad. The new effects look distractingly bad, and the increased graphics + shadowing shit just lowers the map readability of everything. And to top it all off, they're adding that dumb item system that literally every other fricking MOBA uses instead of sticking with what works and what makes them unique.
Can't get more case-study than the OP. The introduction to all the amazing things this new dev system can do, and it's literally Nike 2.0 (the most basic fricking God in the game), with no Passive, voiced 1-1 by Ishtar, and nothing to do with 3 faces or fire-dogs. It's just low-energy and soulless as frick. Only other thread I've seen on this was everyone refusing to watch the intro trailer because they got Black person music over it for whatever stupid reason.
It's a fricking shame too, because as long as Smite stays shite, League has no competition, and will never have anyone putting it under the grill to bother trying to be good again. The entire genre is just decaying in stagnation.

Will probably be less popular than Smite 1. It doesn't have the benefit of starting from zero, so noobs still need to adapt to the Smite 1 legacy heroes and meta. The gameplay is also some of the worst in the genre tbh. High ttk + towers is cancer, leading to generally uneventful matches if players know how to play defensively. Heroes of the Storm did it better to be brutally honest. Game is presented in a 3D perspective but doesn't make use of the Z axis at all, it's like how Pokemon on the DS just tilted the camera slightly downwards. And there was no clever solution to compensate, the map is only readable because they blast shopping mall signs to know you're heading to mid lane.
Smite is honestly cringe, even in the space of casual MOBAs. Paladins is closer to Overwatch than Smite is to League. Genuinely feels like a bootleg at points, like it doesn't get why the mechanics it takes work. It doesn't want to be an arena fighter but it doesn't want to be a MOBA either. You just get the worst of both worlds.
older generations: pick one game they love and play it for decade. Example: dota, lol, AoE, WOW

They're all the fricking same, to the point I'm pretty sure a Support (tree dude) is the only God in the game with lob shot by default kinda like Ziggs (which isn't exactly pushing it, compared to botlaners like Samira, Aphelios, Draven, Kog or Twitch).
They had every chance to change that with the Lion God rework in the new engine, and instead they just kept the exact same kit but focused on making him comically overanimated and with grainy particle effects, which is probably going to frick up his gameplay, because I remember he was quite precise about needing to basically kitdump with no recovery frames, that the new animations are going to mess up / distract from.
