and that small group of people who call you her will eventually get asked if they keep saying it (such in a guild chat, or a raid, anything where people have a chance to hear it multiple times) if they know that ur a woman or something, you just answer no and ask why they would assume that
I have to assume its harder for women who play female characters and are assumed to be male regardless, usually people use your username to decided if your male/female, so unless you play a female character with a female name then I doubt many people would use her, and even then you probably still get called he, my ex used an extremely feminine name when she played mmos and always played female characters and still got called he a lot.

Alternatively the other way - and this only works in the past when mmos were actual communities or amongst your friends/guild today - is to make it so everyone knows who you are. I played a female in every mmo I ever touched, and in every mmo people all knew I was a guy real quick based on how I talked, so no friend or guild member would ever refer to you that way. In og wow infact the whole server pretty much knew who I was as I was part of hordes top pvp bg team and was pretty loud on the forums - until malding mods banned me - and in general chat.
