Modders do it for free so as compensation most want to be praised for it, but praise over a long enough period of time inflates people's egos and they become addicted to it, so then if they aren't praised as much or at all they become violent and angry. I never understood this; I mod myself - for myself. If you make mods that you don't intend for personal use, then what is the point outside of monetary compensation or wish fulfilment?
Honestly, the idea of making mods that I don't have an interest in seems worse than anything else; trying to be polite to the tone-deaf that keep making "recommendations" or "suggestions" is enough of a pain when I actually agree with what they're saying.
'Guess the 'clout' from doing something people want is one positive, but all that really does is force expectations on you and usually ends up ruining the fun of it.
