I still play OSRS and maplestory. I sell gold on OSRS (or rather, did, duel arena dying kinda ruined that all, you have to do fake middleman shit now on pvp worlds and it's a chore.) Mabinogi gets brought up in every thread but when I look it up I can't find a single thing about it that is in any way novel. Is this just nostalgiagayging or what?
combat isn’t tab target like all the other mmos, it has hitstun, knockdowns, blocking, counter attacks, otgs, etc. There are no classes so your character is free to learn every single skill in the game from foraging, cooking, knitting to alchemy; grinding any skill to a very high level gives you a unique title and access to higher end resources or lets you craft equipment with high stats which would make you popular with other players as everyone would love to have “Anon the Master Chef” or “Anon the Master Equipment Enchanter” in their party as they give insane buffs.
People keep referencing the titles, but can't you only use one title at once? Also isn't there some kind of rebirth system? How does that work?

I'm making a game right now that is kind of like a 3d terraria and I've been looking for inspiration hence why I've been looking into mabinogi. I'm looking for interesting systems for items instead of your typical flat item with no modifiers or anything, but a more complex system for how items can be modified, enchanted, etc.
Yeah mabi is insane with its gear and skill customization. You can put up to 2 enchants on most items, weapons and armor get up to 5 upgrade levels which can all be completely customized to your preference. Then you have the reforging system which gives you even more possibilities on top of your existing upgrades. There's way more beyond that but that's the gist of it.
According to the wiki some items can be burned at a campfire to trigger server wide events, do you know anything about that? I can't find any other info.
You just make a campfire and burn stuff at it. Its called a campfire spirit and its just a way to burn items for free exp and gems.
And also candles are something? I think it would be cool to give out aoe buffs to people but through things like lighting candles at campfires, because it gives a reason for characters to stand together instead of just trying to herd cats to share buffs with them.

They've been gradually releasing new outfits which are essentially the exact same as old outfits except they give your character larger, higher-poly breasts, wider hips, better ass, etc. Microtransactions/loot boxes for higher quality, curvier character models.

They are very overpriced and not at all worth it. They've added some new characters but the game has fallen to the same fate that literally every old Korean MMO seems to end up with; leveling content is dumbed down to the point of being a boring slog, welfare gear handed out at a certain level and you're thrown right into the end-game grind except now you have zero experience with playing your character well because you've never needed to do anything except facetank because things have been dumped down and your character has been made so powerful that you never learned mechanics. Having fun being thrown in with the veterans while you don't know shit and they all hate you for it.
I honestly can't think of a single game with a race that has similar proportions to Elin. BnS has Lyn but they're not really similar; I personally think they look fricking weird. Nobody would be willing to take the risk with a flat, wide-hipped, thick-thighed e-girl animal girl race with access to thongs nowadays.

KMMOs are far, far too grindy, and gameplay itself is neat at first but will always reveal how shallow it really is after a while. I didn't say I wanted an MMO per-se, just an RPG really that can achieve something like Elin without extensive modding.

are you disabled? you can rush the main questline in 10 hours, 15 if you're lazy and only once per account since you can skip it with your alts, the endgame is literally just MonHun doing raids, if you don't like this but still decided to play that blame is on you

NTA but Lost Ark has a huge problem with shit not being intuitive enough and it relies far, far too much on instant death mechanics without ever properly explaining the mechanics in the first place. If I instantly die in XIV I know exactly what I fricked up even if I'm doing content blind. When I instantly die in Lost Ark It's a roulette of whether or not I fricked up, whether or not a mechanic was or wasn't even followed, if it's just a bullshit attack that is designed to be outgeared because LA's gear scaling is so fricking absurd.
This isn't a one-shot mechanic but take that stupid loose fox for example. A core mechanic of that fight is standing directly in her fire breath to obtain a damage buff which enables you to deal enough damage to take down her massively inflated health pool. In what universe would anyone consider literally standing in the fire breath to be intuitive? There is no on-screen prompt telling you to do this, there is no visual to make you assume this may be something safe to do, literally nothing clues you in to do this. You simply have to know to do it and it's unlikely that you'll figure it out by accident because anyone who isn't trying to kill themselves will be avoiding fire because that's just shit you do in video games. The game is full of unintuitive mechanics like this. It's a very poorly designed game.
Before the 'hurr filtered" comments; no I didn't get filtered. I completed everything at an appropriate item level up to 1340, got bored of the game and quit because it involved too much shit that wasn't combat-related to increase your characters combat power. Pretty sure I only got ~260 skill points because I couldn't tolerate the plethora of garbage side content.

In regular content, yeah, but if you're in a group doing Savage/Extreme 100% blind some mechanics can be really fricking obtuse and they can happen in rapid succession.
Not really. There's a small handful of "puzzle" mechanics each tier - especially when it comes to ultimates or the fourth fight - but outside of ultimates which are literally designed to be puzzles(and even then there's typically logic to them) what you need to do is fairly intuitive. Within one or two attempts you should be able to know "Okay, I'm dying to a debuff. I need to pass this debuff, or I need to be near another player, or I need to get hit by something to remove it." etc. Even something like Hello World was far more intuitive than most of the shit you in Lost Ark.

said, the main story is just a rush and you can easily get to Tier3, now in just a day with the honing buffs released with the current patch. The endgame is great when you're not playing with morons who can't into positioning.

Never played it back in its heyday but going through all the game's history on a TLP server is pretty nice. Having to learn the ropes of each new expac every couple months is a bit of a hassle though. And I can't bring myself to care about latter expansions as much as I did about earlier ones. When it's the first expac or second or even third they feel like massive exciting game changers. When it's a 12th already - not so much. But I still like the game a lot.
I don't feel like it's quite dead. But Maplestory on reboot servers. Just playing different jobs and hitting things is fun. I'm fond of this slow accumulation of power that is legion and link skills. Working on being able to solo the chaos root abyss bosses atm. Can barely do chaos pink bean, so the others aren't far off, if not already feasibly possible. It helps that I'm playing the game with a friend, so if we can't be arsed we can just duo things live chaos vellum, something neither of us can really solo

No. You're most likely thinking of Tower of Fantasy which bombed so hard in China that they cancelled the global release indefinitely. It's back on schedule to be released but considering it already flopped and nobody gives a shit about the game other than a few youtube/twitch shills who have been paid to promote it. It's going to end up as another Lost Ark; huge surge in popularity very briefly but the population will tank hard after people realize it isn't what they were hoping for.
Not sure if I could even recommend you to check it out for nostalgia. It's still a decently fun game in terms of combat but you're not going to get to anything even remotely challenging until you start approaching level 90+ and the population is so small and centralized that you'll have to bring some friends along or join a guild to do much of anything that isn't the very small handful of content that everyone is farming.
But hey, at least there's lots of breasts and ass to see and the 64 bit client update made the hub actually stable instead of a disgusting 10 FPS mess.
I tried a private server and I had to deal with a UI intended for 1024x768 or 1280x960 at 1920. Text was a pain in the ass to read and causing me eyestrain. There was no UI scaling

Sorry anon, I don't remember if it had windowed fullscreen or not. I don't remember the text being an issue though. Wish I still had it installed so I could check for you real quick. The only thing I can say for sure is the 64 bit client fixed a lot of performance issues the game used to have.

Spent all day playing Ragnarok yesterday. Even made a new character.
As time goes by I find my mind wandering back to Tree of Savior. It's going to be years before the private server tools are at a playable state and there hasn't been a single MMO to be excited about since they butchered New World during development. And the drought had been going on for years before that point.
Ever since Tree of Savior, ArchAge, MapleStory 2, Blade and Soul and Black Desert came out one after the other and each of them managed to flop more spectacularly than the previous one, the market has been dead. Quite literally the only games to come out since that period were Bless(which was an old game repackaged), PSO New Genesis(also another repackaged old game) and New World(aborted by Amazon).
Surprisingly I had been following some VR MMOs that looked good but they're all indies so it's very limited.
