It was a fun hero shooter in 2016. It was new and innovative and the characters (especially the trailers) were really well done. Once you played 100+ games, there really wasn't much that was being offered. Then Blizzard put the focus into the E-sports meme and that just killed it.
I think if Blizzard had put all their resources into characters and modes instead of...whatever the frick they were doing with that precious time, Ganker would still like the Overwatch IP.
I think it was mostly the parts of the community flaming every non meta pick and blizzard pandering to those people that killed it. Of course those people mostly got their idea about what was good from the e-sports scene so I suppose that really is what killed the game after all.
Honestly it was fun. The only time it was ever really unfun from my experiences is if you were really tryharding in solo queue comp.
I can't comment about the new hitbox changes though.

I played it for a while, but the gameplay ended up feeling pretty repetitive since there's no builds or anything in OW so it would rely on balancing changes or new content to keep fresh, which the dev team preferred releasing truck loads of lootbox cosmetics instead of doing that
the amount of little twitch shills sitting there promoting loot box gambling is fricking sad, they deserve to be murdered for the amount of money they were accomplices in defrauding people out of
If only people had to state how much they earned on Twitch, the leaks pretty much exposed a lot of them, they make videos pretending to care about current thing but they only really care about getting people to watch the video.

It was because of aggressive marketing, gamers are easy prey for aggressive marketing
It was pretty fun in the beginning when the playerbase approached the game like TF2, but once the meta to the actual game sank in most of the fun disappeared.
Fun and competitive shooter with godtier character design/lore that gradually lost all it's momentum the more Blizzard changed the game to cater to esports. Robbed us of a 6th player spot, a much fairer system for earning loot, a coherent story, and a fleshed out PvE mode. The fact we can't even play the first game anymore is pretty shitty too.
it was really fun and the way the games flowed with back and forth until the rushing team made a decent play with their ults, and how to counter them were great skirmishes.
Then they added comp, separated the teambase and it just became cancer.
Crap tons of marketting money, paid reviews and a decent online support infrastructure is all you need. Look at trash like apex legends and valorant, fortnite. These are all shit games.
ass and tiddies with an overlay of actual fun game play, some rage from others was heard and some hilarious screeching from my team mates who werent getting their way with the healer. it was so much fun and was simple fun which was the best kind, if it was still around in its original form id still be playing it, even the pathetic new characters. i'd even put up with role lock just to use d.vas ulti on the payload one more
