You NEED some patch because it got rushed and is kind of broken, if you do make sure to just get the fixes and not the optional shit.
As a rpg it's great, as a vampire rpg it's fricking awesome, it has a feel right out of the late 90s/early2000s, a terrfic atmosphere, great writing and va and facial animations better than current AAA shit (despite being made on beta source IIRC).
Be sure your character can fight.
Its world&lore is ludo, the game looks really nice and plays well since its a source game. But its janky needs a patch and hardly has a lot of npc's you;ll be fighting the samething over and over again
If if you like the lore of the game there is dozens of books for table top shit thats fun to read plus bunch of novels. There is also werewolf and wage which take place in the same world&time. Mage goes full on insanity there is also a few lesser games that take place in the same world.
World of darkness is cool as frick if you want like gothicpunk dark shit man vs self man vs world and all that.
the atmosphere is honestly fricking amazing and i've not even made it out of Santa monica to LA proper yet. writing and voice acting have been top notch so far

It's both hilarious and sad how ridiculously hard writing in games became. Replaying VTMB after I finished BG3, the difference is just staggering.
