That was fine by me. The character didn't strike me as a particularly emotive person. He's a secretive guy who prefers that you know as little about him and what he is thinking as possible. Part of being a glowie probably.

exactly like keanu in the entire game

Keanu on the other hand should have been a bit more lively, being a narcissistic rock star with a chip on his shoulder.

This, not a complaint on Idris but the Reed character should have been more interesting.

He should have arranged the sabotage of SF1, not Songbird. He should have been out for revenge, not being a good boy. He should have had a grander scheme, not just doing what he's been told. Here's what I'd suggest:

      >Hansen is in talks with Arasaka to revitalise Dogtown
      >Reed knows this, is still undercover
      >Wants to keep Dogtown a shithole, a "haven" for soldiers
      >Plans to get NUSA and Dogtown fighting to do so
      >Takes down SF1 with a plan involving Alex, Songbird
      >Game plays out mostly the same
      >When Alex and Reed meet and pretend to be meeting for the first time it's an act to keep V out of the loop
      >The plan is to kill Myers, keep Dogtown from gentrifying, get Hansen killed
      >Songbird plans to keep Myers alive, trade her for a cure to her Blackwall Virus

        Anonymous

It's not a good idea to draw attention to Dogtown and its relation to the rest of the world, people might notice that it's existence in absurd and the whole place would have been wiped out in hours.

Yes they would. In fact they'd have the most reasons to do so, especially when you consider nuclear fallout apparently just isn't a thing in the Cyberpunk universe.

              Anonymous

The Nomad ending has this fun note where Panam shits herself realizing you're walking through the original Arasaka bombing crater and Saul is like "We're gonna die in five minutes anyway lol who cares"

              Anonymous

They wouldn't because they're actively sending groups underneath Dogtown to research their old projects and recover their technology. They wouldn't want that getting into the hands of Arasaka or anyone else.

The whole time I was thinking that despite his hardened professional exterior, there's no way a tiny human part of him hadn't been building up hatred and resentment after 7 years, and it would eventually bubble up and crack. Turns out he really did just hold on to his ideals as his only way of life and had no will of his own remaining, which while fine is less interesting.

Denzel Washington or Keith David would have been way better fits for Reed's character.

I dunno, I think having him as a man stuck in the past, that clinges to the 'oath' is better than revenge driven mastermind.
Especially seeing, how he unclenches his ass for the first time in the long, long time in the endings, where everyone but him die.

        Anonymous

The 'burned spy being out for revenge' thing is pretty generic an idea though. I found it a fair bit more interesting that he stayed loyal/dutiful even after the betrayal he suffered, it makes him seem genuinely insane, just not in an overt raving lunatic way.

We weren't talking about 'cool' we were talking about 'interesting'

Burned spy is a 'cool' plot but its probably one of the first ideas anyone would think of when it comes to spy/government agent media.

I think they did sort of fumble the ball with Reed simply because his mental state didn't get that much focus, but the fact that he was this weirdly hollow man who didn't seem to really know or care how fricked up it is that he's still loyal to the person who threw him away like trash is an interesting concept. He's basically like a robot, just one who can act 'normal' and even sometimes warm and friendly.

              Anonymous

i don't find it that strange. the FIA is their fricked up family in a world utterly devoid of any meaning or things worth fighting for. Reed clings to it because there's literally nothing else and the alternative would be to rot in dogtown.

                Anonymous

                > the alternative would be to rot in dogtown
There was literally nothing stopping him from leaving dogtown except for his dedication to his ‘duty’ and hoping that someday SOMETHING would come of it, rather than the thought he’d just been abandoned forever.

Alex had sort of the same deal, sticking it out undercover all this time, but even she’s better than Reed since she was able to decide concretely that she wanted out of the spy life for good after this mission.

something i really hated with PL was you save the president so fast
like shes just gone after a couple hours
you even get a safe house which you have no reason to use or ever go back to after the president gets smuggled out.
feels like such a wasted opportunity

          Anonymous

yeah its a bit weird, once Reed said he got the president out over the phone I was just kind of like "oh... thats it?"

Would've been nice if you got a mission where you had to stealthily drive her out and/or go through a dialogue sequence where you had to persuade/coerce your way through some security checkpoint, sorta similar to the Nomad starting quest.

or the mission where you switch between cameras and then guide an npc through a enemy filled maze
            frick those missions
            they are never ever good
the one later in the game with the sniper was "fine" because it was super short and very linear

              >escort stealth mission which are 2 of the worse things in cp2077

              >invincible
              >teleport instantly to you
              >don't alert enemies themselves even when walking directly in front of them

Like the whole opening act is "We're doing Escape From New York, I get it" but all of a sudden it's like Kurt Russel wins the basketball game and somebody just walks up to him and tells him "btw while you were fricking around with that we rescued the President offscreen"

        >at first Reed thinks he's finally been made, ready to faltline you at the basketball court
        >realizes "oh shit they don't know"
        >starts to play both sides
        >wants to get So Mi under his wing to get her way from Myers
        >not necessarily more virtuous in his own schemes involving her, but he does actually care about her, unlike Myers
        >So Mi wants to get away from all of them, still has her own angle to get away, still a stupid teenager move, maybe less CYBERHELL WHEEEEE in execution
        >siding with Reed means joining the Barghest upper ranks with Alex and So Mi
        >siding with Myers means being a NUSA boyscout and getting fricked in the end when they hand you over to Arasaka, who still want their Relic back, to prevent a war, mirroring Myers betraying Reed and showing you You Can't Trust The Corps, even the Federal ones

I really don't like how him and Keanu are obviously just in the game so they can say they got a super famous actor in.
There are tons of lesser known actors they could have gotten to play these roles but they picked some of the most immediately recognizable ones for a reason and it wasn't their ability to embody the characters.

Johnny Silverhand 2077 feels very much like he was built from the ground up for Keanu Reeves. Up to and including his engram being a huge Johnny Pneumonic reference.

During the Heist, when you're in Yorinobu's penthouse looking for the relic, if you look left immediately after getting out of the elevator you see a terrarium with an iguana in it, and right behind the tree is an iguana egg that V can steal and bring to his apartment. Just puts it down in a small cup after the first chat with Takemura and says "Now we wait" even though Johnny is skeptic. After 90 ingame days you suddenly have an iguana (that's born fully adult lmao) that you can pet and Johnny then says "Aight you got me" and starts playing guitar every time you pet it.

You did. You can have a a cat AND an iguana. The cat is way easier though, just have cat food in your inventory and go left right outside of V's door. You'll find a cat food bowl and a message in the trash saying to feed it. You feed it, wait some hours, then go and pick it up and take it into your apartment.

They’ve made it harder on each subsequent patch but it’s still doable. Honestly another example of poor game design, why put so much effort into a massive location like that and then lock it off never to be accessible again?

You literally get told the time table and relay the info. Before you know it's too late it's already been the 2 years.

The real issue isn't you alerting anyone to your procedure. It's that at no point does anybody at Langley relay to next of kin, friends, or emergency contacts. But it's hard to put down a nomad with no address as an EC.

I don't know why Vik or Misty weren't informed or anybody.

We have to induce a coma and monitor his vitals as we work to chisel away at the engram safely. I'm actually disappointed with how good double jumping is
Almost every block of the city has roofs just the right height or conveniently placed dumpsters/fences/etc. so that as soon as you buy the double jump implant you can parkour anywhere
It must have been countless hours of programming effort to make that the case
And there's absolutely nothing to parkour to
There's no reason to not just fast travel everywhere instead

High-level parkour really revealed how absolutely unfinished the city is. Before they patched out Kerenzikov super-jumping I put some hours into really exploring, my findings:

              >although most rooftops in the base game are accessible, after a certain point a few stories up no effort made to detail them; no dirt, no trash, no furniture
              >past a certain level you’ll find fire escapes and balconies very high up in the city populated with NPCs, seemingly serving no purpose, nothing to interact with in the environment around them
              >the city has a complete metro overhead train system as seen in the early trailers, the stations are accessible but unfinished internally and externally
              >the Militech compound at Corpo Plaza has an unfinished interior it was possible to glitch into at one point

I think my biggest disappointment with Night City was how bereft of interior spaces the whole map was. Even other CDPR games did this better, Beauclair in Blood and Wine has a shocking amount of accessible buildings with things to find in them, often with unique interiors that give, if nothing else, the sense of a real, living city and the lifestyles and habits of the people who live there. It might not be an exaggeration to say that Mankind Divided, with its miniscule Prague hub and Golem City, has more to explore than Night City which is more like a film set facade than a functional city.

Nah, OG Delamaine is way more restricted than a Blackwall AI. Delamaine after doing his questline and merging all the other AIs into him is a lot like a newborn Blackwall AI though, which is exactly why he immediately fricks off. If he was a proper Blackwall AI he would never have been allowed to operate within the city and Netwatch would've been all over his ass.

Or because V is infected with whatever shit was in Sandra in prologue, which clearly has a connection to NightCorp, thus to Mr. Blue Eyes, and to Blackwall AIs. I still think that sending Somi to him was a shit idea.

For one, he doesn't seem to have access to the net, or only in a very limited way. He just controls his cars, and not even those if he loses the signal. If he was a proper AI he's have no need to hire some random gonk to chase down his missing cars.

The Canto is cool but I thought it was really underwhelming by the time I got it, which was around level 56 or so. By then hitting most regular enemies with an Overheat quickhack would be enough to one shot them and costs less RAM than Blackwall Gateway.

It doesn't have enough quickhack slots, it has a shitty RAM count, which makes Blackwall Gateway only a good choice to use during overclocks. BG also has a really slow upload time. It feels like it's got too many trade offs when it's meant to be a superweapon you can only get once per playthrough.

To show just how far you've fallen. In the main game, those buttholes wouldn't even have registed as enemies on your radar, they'd just be meaningless NPCs. But after losing every advantage you had, even background NPCs can be a real threat. It' illustrates that living in NC as a regular person is dangerous even if you're not having daily shootouts with gangoons and corpo security.

Kek what? The engram is an AI. Ask Alt herself. It's basically 'saka trying to digitalize humanity. Just like V becomes an AI that takes over his/her own body in all default endings except for Temperance and the Devil if you refuse the soulkiller contract.

        >They were never taken over by anyone, that's just old-fashioned mental conditioning.
Remember the color of brain-washing screens in their house. Remember So Mi losing her memories due to constant contacts with the blackwall. Remember what Alt has to say if you encountered Cynosure in PL. Remember that Mr. Blue Eyes is a "human". Why make a puppet politician when you can take over the body?

Frick Reed, frick Myers, frick Alex, and frick the NUSA. I saved songbird because Reed was a stubborn dog for the NUSA aka Militech. Based, Reed's better off dead, he died 7 years ago when Myers burned him anyway. Songbird is also a piece of shit but I admired how far she was willing to go and like Johnny had a grudging respect for her in the end. such a tiny moment in the game but does such a massive amount to the character and the immersion

something i hated in the base game was they allowed you to essentially play the game out of order

Hard. But I find the game itself unbalanced, lvl 60 V can be extremely broken depending on the build, while first like 20 levels on very hard are just frustrating. For new players, I'd recommend Normal really.

Depends on the build. I tried AR/SMG and it sucked on higher difficulty. Body and hacking is the easiest for very hard.

I stick to very hard. You need to optimize whatever build you are going for. You can always undo the yellow perks and move them if needed. Make sure your cyberware is upgraded as well. If your armor or mitigation doesn't keep up with the enemies it will get rough later on. Also, use cover.

He's pretty good. I like that Elba plays Reed as sounding reasonable and even somewhat warm/casual once you've known him for a bit longer, kind of helps to obscure the fact that he's also sort of a nutcase given how unerringly loyal he is to his duty/position, even after all the shit he went through. Kinda similar feel to Myers when you first meet her, they both speak in a way that makes you want to lower your guard with them, even though they'd both kill you without any hesitation if they decided you were a 'liability'

      Anonymous

He's not really a nutcase, he's just really loyal to his ideals and good at lying to himself to reconcile the discrepancies between what his superiors should be doing and what they're actually doing. He and Songbird are opposites, in a way: Reed is a responsible and sincere man who's in total denial about what he's doing, while Song is a selfish liar who does ultimately realize where her choices have taken her.

            Anonymous

Reed never has mixed feelings. All that matters to him is that she isn't dead regardless of state or freedom. You can try challenging it but he doesn't even get upset, basically he cannot comprehend why not being dead is worse than being dead.

the blackwall is an AI that keeps rogue AIs from infecting the rest of the net and destroying everything.
the rogue AIs are basically digital WMDs, releasing them would result in another collapse of the net and everything that relies on it.

This was a clever reference to Apocalypse Now, where Colonel Kurtz was also built up for the entire movie and then did literally nothing and died

Hansen is nothing compared to Kurtz. Kurtz was a man who had been broken utterly by the horrors of war, Hansen is just a career criminal with a military background. He says himself he dropped the flag so he could do his business. The NUSA is nothing but a Militech umbrella, and Hansen nothing but a rogue Corpo.
It's hilarious to me that people see the Arasakas, the literal imperial family of Japan, as "CORPO CORPO," but turn around and call Myers president and suddenly it's "OORAH USA! USA! USA!"

Myers is a politician through and through. That was the whole point of her character. She turns on the charm offensive when she needs you to get her out of Dogtown, she doesn't give a shit about you after that. The ending where you kill Songbird shows this the best. She also gets Reed to off-screen kill the two guys who stay at your hideout. The second anyone stops being useful to her they're considered disposable trash.

                >Kick them out. They're killed by Barghest.

Once I started the dlc, it starts me off with a stealth section I have to stealth. Implying I can't just walk through the front door with my lvl 50 body/reflex/technical build.
So I stealth through after wasting an hour fighting infinitely respawning armies of cops/maxtac.
    >killing maxtac doesn't get you shit btw, they just spawn another team after you kill the last member of the last team
    >I thought the last one would at least drop the helmet, turns out you romance Judy to get it instead
Coolest helmet in the game, and I cucked myself out of getting it before I even started the game. I fricking hate what cdpr's become.
    Anyway.
After the stealth section it railroads you for a while.
Finally get free access to the fancy new district, and it's just a few blocks. The merc group or whatever that's policing there is practically identical to the regular police, they even end up calling the same maxtac team.
They added vehicle missions that suck dick, cause they center around the terrible frickin car controls. It's one thing if you're just riding around in a decent car running from police for shits. Vehicle missions always make you drive slow, clunky pieces of shit, like every time. You're always gonna get attacked by multiple cars. They're always gonna catch up to you, cause you're driving trash, and they're always gonna junk your car, cause you're stuck using pistols/smgs, so hope you happened to build your character around those. Then that esl Hispanic handler will always shit on you over the phone, cause you're never gonna deliver a car to him unscathed or within the time limit like he wants cause it's impossible.
    Anyway.
    So I start another mission.
It railroads me so frickin hard for so long, it starts ending and starting story missions in the middle of dialogue. It literally forces me to do like 3 or 4 missions in a row.
Only notable thing was that there was a boss that would've been really cool but they made as lame as possible.

You have to fight a huge spider tank.
I'm up for it. The new airdashes give you a lot of mobility, and I'm tanky enough I can tank a few hits from a direct assault to this thing before I need to airdash to cover to hit some healing.
First phase you're not allowed to do damage. It's literally covered in god mode armor that nothing will penetrate.
So you have to do this embarrassingly scripted chase sequence.
Wait for a frickin elevator while the thing moronicly shoots at your somehow impenetrable stone wall cover.
Then you don't get on the elevator and just crash through the floor.
The fall fricks up the tank to the point where it can finally be damaged, but it's legs get crippled, so it turns into a giant turret in the center of a big room surrounded in cover.
They want you to take turns cover shooting this thing in between its shots...
I couldn't think of a lamer way to fight this boss if I tried.
So I just abuse my sandevistan, jump on this things head, and spam melee on it like Leon knifing el gigante in re4 till it dies.
Worst boss I've fought all year.
Then it rail roads you and rail roads you.
There's a part where you get golden opportunity after golden opportunity to bang the president of the united states, and you don't even get any flirty dialogue options. Wouldn't want anything actually kinda cool to happen in our big premiere spy thriller expansion.
As soon as I got my freedom back, I went around grinding gigs and CIPs, already pretty much have everything from the relic tree that I wanted. Any other points are just gonna go into a dump tree I haven't min maxed, like cool.
Dropped it shortly after. Never got to Idris.
Bet it's another shitty performance like Keanu's where they do nothing but try too hard to make him cool.
They need to stop with the holywood sidekicks. God knows how much budget they eat, and then all their work just goes to self masturbatory cinematic drivel that adds nothing but universally unwanted context to the gameplay.

    >Songbird is lying to you!
    >But not really!
    >Actually, she is!
    >Wait, she's not!
And so on. It's not like you care either way because you're distrustful of her from the get go. So no tension. And really, it's soured by the fact that the game introduces you to the president you bond with her in the intro, and then she's written off the very next second and you're sent off on a chase after her assistant you don't really care about. Talk about pulling the rug out from under the player.

There's nothing during those flashbacks that alludes to her screwing with the Blackwall at that time. At that point she's just a low-life netrunner starting to make a name for herself. She does a small thing with the blackwall and Reed says she needs to join the FIA or Netwatch will get her. In reality Netwatch would probably have recruited her as well. Meanwhile the little tiny poking of the blackwall she did that got so much attention was the reason Myers wanted her. Myers stuffed her full of experimental netrunning and blackwall piercing technology and made her do it over and over again to further Myers personal goals. Myers is the reason songbird is dying. Pushing constantly beyond the blackwall is what is killing her. Each time she does she loses memories and her nervous system breaks down.
The idea she poked a tiny hole in the blackwall when she was a teenager and that's what has been killing her ever since is a fan fiction that you've made up in your own head to excuse you sucking the federal governments wiener.

I definitely think the story was a bit of a rug-pull. All of the marketing was about going on a spy mission to save the president, but like you say, that part ends almost as soon as it begins. I get that the stakes were raised by Songbird's Blackwall frickery. But all of that stuff was done on Myers orders anyway. I feel like they could've done more with it. Like Hansen taking Myers hostage, threatening to expose her meddling with the Blackwall, with that having the potential to cause a new global war in addition to the looming threat of the AI's.

To be honest even after siding with Reed and killing Songbird I'm still not really sure how that resolved the threat of the AI's taking over. She was a Blackwall infused cyberpsycho who went on a tear through a decent portion of Night City. Surely whatever AI controlled her could've spread from that alone, having access to whatever connections she did. But apparently not, and shutting down the Cynosure core sets everything right.

anyone try the all knife build? i feel like its a mouse and keyboard thing not the best on controller. but it seems strong. and i always end up gravitating towards nethacker builds so i wanted to try something new.

I guess good enough, because I dislike Reed as a person, so he must've done a good job conveying the character.

Because at that point the "I don't give a frick about you Songbird" option is to give her back to the FIA, killing her is the moronic sentimental simp decision where you do what she asks despite having no material reason to do so nor any reason to feel indebted to her at all.

Frick no, dumbass. the point of killing her is that she's too dangerous to let live. Letting her go loose or giving her back to the NUSA are both moronic options.

      >wow, it's like I have no control over my character!
This is a common misconception with Cyberpunk 2077. V is not a blank slate. He has a predefined personality, goals, aspirations, and desires. You can influence him slightly through dialogue, but at the end of the day he is not a self insert, he's an existing character that you just control. In any other game, you wouldn't complain if the main character acts a certain way because that's just their character. If someone dies, and the player character cries, that is the character crying not you.
I would fault CDPR for almost marketing Cyberpunk as a self insert game where V is a blank insert. That's their fault for implying that is how the game is - but in reality it isn't at all.

Yeah. They never really moved past Geralt-type-of-PC. Not that I'm complaining really, Johnny & V's story is great, and even all 3 of my runs for each lifepath felt pretty distinct from each other, but it's not a true RPG experience for sure.

There are way too many situations where you actually CAN choose to do and say radically different things that it just makes the railroaded segments stick out more
There are multiple characters that you can treat at a whim from "Wow let's be friends I'll help you" to "Not my problem just give me the eddies" to "I will fricking murder you"

this is true, even if it makes the internet drama gays seethe. At first I was annoyed by Keanu saying all this edgy shit to me, but at some point I forgot it was him, and it was just Johnny. That's impressive

I thought he did a good job. Reed's character is a smooth operator who isn't inclined to showing emotion. Probably some spy frickery too with them cybernetically messing with his emotions, or at least that's where the imagination wanders.
What I don't know is if this was intended, or if this is what they did to his character BECAUSE he was so flat in his voice acting. It would be disappointing if the latter, but it makes sense

Flat as frick holy shit. It felt like the actor (not the character) didn't give a frick about reading the lines.

It's a very common problem with "real" actors for some reason. They can't do voice acting.

Strange right? You would think that if you could deliver a line in person then you could deliver it in a booth too. Maybe usually being recorded separately without the character they are supposed to be speaking to there doing the lines with them throws them off or something.
