>Giant environment that feels like an actual place unlike the disconnected hallways and corridors inside of Tokyo buildings from previous SMT games >Interesting and thought-provoking characters like Tao, Aogami, Lucifer, Amanozako, Dazai, Nuwa and Yakumo >Story responds to the themes in the TDE and Freedom endings of Nocturne >amazingly rich subtext >Introduction of magatsuhi skills and the return of Vitality to refine the already excellent gameplay from Apocalypse >Incredible amount of customization available to the MC and demons >Unique skills to differentiate several demons from the rest, along with well-crafted animations and camera movements.
Pretty good game
magatsuhi was a fun idea but super poorly balanced.
level range scaling was a fricking mistake and made agility and luck straight up dump stats.
some of the demon distribution per level was weird, like alice being at lvl 40 but having the strongest unique mudo skill
>some of the demon distribution per level was weird, like alice being at lvl 40 but having the strongest unique mudo skill
you're supposed to loop your summons so that when you fuse an Alice again at level 99 she has a frickhuge gigantic stat brick
>level range scaling was a fricking mistake
Don't play Atlus games then.
> made agility and luck straight up dump stats
Agility actually affects Hit/Evades, and Luck actually affects Critical hit rate, Ailment success rate, Instakill success rate, etc which are plenty useful for once.
>alice being at lvl 40 but having the strongest unique mudo skill
Which you can just level/re-fuse.
>Agility actually affects Hit/Evades
Not in any meaningful way. People have cheated in 999 agility+beast eye+dragons eye and youre still getting slapped 80% of the time and your 50% accuracy moves are only about 70% accurate
>was 100% intended
Yes. I know the concept of depth and options is lost on SMToddlers, but that's what good RPGs are about. There's a reason games prior to IV: Final isn't worth touching.
I just finished this game after playing through every SMT before it. Here are my thoughts >no gritty fever dream atmosphere which sucks >the characters they try to make you care about may as well not exist except for Dazai who just nonsensically turns into pure evil the moment he finds God >I didn't give a shit about fighting Lucifer because he was just so absent from everything >only two shitty dungeons, no labyrinthine SMT dungeon crawling >endings are copypastes with a different voiceover which might pass in the 90s but is inexcusable in current year and makes it pointless to replay for other endings >true final boss is a curbstomp by the point you can beat Shiva and even unlock him, plus it's not even a different final boss it's just two extra phases of Lucifer with better music >protag and demon customization system is great and I had fun fusing all my favorites to prepare for the endgame >Young Man is cute
Overall it's at the bottom of my list for the mainline games. Only SMT4 is lower because that one also feels half-finished.
I somehow forgot to list my biggest problem. Both SMT5 and 4A have a problem where it feels like they're no longer giving the mythical entities appropriate characterizations and roles in the story. It feels more like they're just pulling mythical names out of a hat and assigning them to the story without care for their history, unlike the earlier games in the series. Like... how is Aogami Susano-o, you know? He doesn't act anything like him, he doesn't display a single trait that connects him to Susano-o. It's just tossed out there as a quick line by Tsukuyomi.
Working backwards like that has also resulted in a lot of poor designs as well. Doi has talent, but that talent is wasted when he has to slap a triskelion on a skeleton because he was asked to make "Dagda except he hates life, is a skeleton and spouts nihilistic sophistry". You can't discard something so core to SMT and expect the games to end up good as a result.
Overall I loved it, like every SMT I've played, but it does have some big flaws
Pros >solid gameplay as to be expected from this series >fantastic OST >art direction is great >does the open field level design better than most other games of that type I've played >dreamy atmosphere isn't bleak but still enjoyable
Cons >side characters not fleshed out, not as much worldbuilding as I'd like >returning to high school after Hydra >definitely felt the level scaling, even if it wasn't much of an issue for me personally >scummy Atlus Day 1 DLC model
Overall a great game, but I understand people's problems with it.
Best numbered game in the series and one of the best JRPGs of all time.
troony game enjoyed exclusively by troony like the troon above this post

Pretty good game
why must you seethe
Good outside the story, it also send SMTroons like these into a never ending seethe, which gives it at least 2 extra points in my book.
>into a never ending seethe
But he's praising the game.
Nothing.
Waiting for the PC port.
Like all SMT games the narrative is dogshit, music is great, gameplay is good.
it's a mald mald world
magatsuhi was a fun idea but super poorly balanced.

some of the demon distribution per level was weird, like alice being at lvl 40 but having the strongest unique mudo skill
Because you can refuse in ways that raise your stats

Unless you're running a Dance team Die For Me! is weaker than Mudobarion.
Death Flies is by far the strongest Curse type spell
I thought aramasa waz cool https://youtu.be/ZMFTSJ_e6ZU
The game looks great but why did they make it so I have to play as a troony
Not only that but the girls fall for other guys and MC falls for his homosexual robot partner.

>oh, the Dagda, the jolly god of life and wisdom, of course
barely any femboy porn, dissappointing
