They were all pretty cringe and forgettable. I didn't even realize that they were supposed to be the three people in the "vision from the absolute" in act 1 or whatever where Shadowheart teleports to you with the MacGuffin, until basically the end of the game. BG3, besides simply having a ton of shit cut at the last minute, also clearly had massive rewrites to both the characters and the story late in development, and suffered for it. Rumor is they went through multiple teams of writers who were all worse than the last, but tried to undo and/or rewrite what their predecessors had done. Death by design by committee.

They are good enough. Ketheric motivation was understandable if you ask me. He was more weak than evil truth be told. Orin and Gortash are more one dimensional, more cartoonish but don´t really have a problem with unambiguous classic evil. Makes fricking them over more enjoyable like it happened with Minhago in WoTR. Truly one of the greatest things about that game is how you can just torment her guilt free until she begs for death if only to be released from the fear of torture.

        Damn.

That's the sort of goofy kino that could have worked to compliment villains being played straight.

            >(Narrators voice)- Koveras chuckled smugly, walking away, as the Candlekeep librarians pissed themselves in fear....

Orin is mad frickable, Ketheric boss fight was fun the first time but every subsequent fight with meta knowledge make the fight lame unless you skip turns just so the enemy has a chance to fight back, I like Gortash but I like his gold hand gauntlet more so he unfortunately dies on all my playthroughs

Frick yeah, I charge down the road, I'm gonna go beat the shit out of them, this is gonna be AWESOME
          >You can't do that. I'm teleporting you to another map, and your character says, "I should have known better than to try that!"
          >your dream visitor has revealed their true form
Frick that shit! I'm gonna kill him
You can't do that. The game is now over.
          >across this bridge lies the elderbrain
Sweet! I charge across the bridge to kick its ass
No, you can't do that either. I'm teleporting you away for your own good. I'm sorry but you just can't.

Honestly I was just surprised at how they thought they stood any chance against my character by the time they met, like watching three jack russells yap aggressively in the face of a kangal. I did like convincing Orin that her grandpa never loved her though.

It suffers because bg1 and 2 had bad writing, especially the whole dead 3 and their dealings with jergal.

orrin is just an edgy le murder cultist. There's nothing to her.
ketheric was okay I guess, the whole magical darkness and shadows in act 2 was cool, his story was alright having lost his wife and trying to keep his daughter alive despite her being a dyke who somehow doesnt even feel an ounce of pity for him.
gortash is alright as a corrupt politician and black market crimelord.

The game doesn't say much though so it's not really a narrative that will stick with you

Honestly? Quite good villains, between every game either having 'le relatable badguy' or 'le incomprehensible 5d chess super evil' (like BG3's actual villain). All 3 motivate you to kick their ass, and all 3 do it in a different way; Their motivations make sense within the context of a nonsensical plot.

If the whole superbrain and mindflayer plot was cut out of the game in favour of these 3 buttholes and their plan, being:
    >dead guy raises army of undead, goblins, ogres and cultists (who can still be cultists, just without the brain) to attack the city
    >gortash uses this opportunity to yell I AM THE SENATE and seize power through legal means
    >Orin using the chaos to appease Bhaal and kill the other bhaalspawn to become chosen
...I feel like the story would would feel a lot better.

The mindflayer thing could still remain as the intro but be resolved by the end of act 1 or act 2 and not play any significant part in the main story beyond giving players optional power.
And especially not the shitshow that is act 3's emperor who embodies picrelated.

Wasted potential at least on my single play through. “Netherbrain” was so fricking boring wish they’d have been more interesting. Orin was almost there but uh….frick can’t even remember his name the Bane follower had so much potential but was boring af. It’s clear cutting the upper city fricked act 3 and most of the storylines, once they release a free definitive edition i might play again but man the Absolute netherbrain boss fight was sooooo gay

Orin is the only good one because she’s tied to Dark Urge + Bhaal stuff. The other two are literally memes. Trying to figure out if there’s a way to rewrite the story to get rid of them

Orin is also a meme lol. She's the definition of a crazy murder cultist who only cares about killing.

Left two are pretty cool; rightmost guy was the most boring/generic/dogshit "big bad" I've ever seen in a video game.
