This game is the epitome of "It gets good X amount of hours in" for the better or worse. The blade passives for exploration and gacha system are minor annoyances too but I can overlook it since the game is otherwise really damn satisfying to play and break.
True. I think that could also be said for every chapter until the ones in the lategame. Start and middle of the chapter are just, a slog really, and then the final act of it is pretty good and is where all the memorable parts are.
I find 3 superior from a gameplay and graphics standpoint, but on pretty much everything else 2 remains superior. Best in the series?, i don't think so, but i have a really hard time at choosing only 1 of the 4 games as my favorite one, all the games have things that do better and worse than the rest
It's a Xenoblade game so it is miles better than the average jrpg, but it definitely is the most undercooked ome of the four games, which makes sense considering how much time and resources Zelda took from it, I generally like it on paper but the execution is very flawed compared to DE, X and 3, the story has too much filler, the UI is a nightmare and the tutorializing is way too heavyhanded and not particularly helpful, oh, and of course there's the shitty dub.
Very satisfying combat in terms of effects and VFX and SFX. When you do a big attack in-game, you FEEL it
Some great characters, both in the party and among the villains
A good tone and structure that fits in tons of detours into a relatively leisurely pace to the party's ultimate goal, giving it a sort of episodic feel.
Some great GREAT environmental tunes
I like 3 more but 2 is better than 1 and on the level with X.
Very very good game. Has some jank but it's a genuinely heartfelt adventure with a standout cast, some very satisfying feeling combat and a pretty well developed world
XB2 will give you different feelings but, yes, you'll not want it to end. Xenoblade, as a series, gives me the worst post-JRPG depression. It hits me harder than FF, DQ, Suikoden, Persona, Tales, Trails or really any others.
I just don't understand people's gripe eith the gacha mechanic in this game. It's only really a problem if you want to be a completionist and have to grind legendary cores in NG+ for the last few elusive blades, otherwise it's actually an exciting and well integrated mechanic in this game, and it would definitely be less fun without it.
The issue is twofold.
First, there are a lot of decent and high-production value quests behind Blades, so missing Blades means missing some good quests
Most of the Gacha gripes are from 2017/2018 when it was the only HUGE JRPG on the platform. So you people were sitting and replaying this game a couple of times over before more RPGs came to the Switch
>Is it the best in the series?
Yes, by a landslide. The combat is a huge improvement over the first game, X is dog shit, and 3 has some good elements but those are overshadowed by the boring interchangeable villains of the week the Moebius are and the class point system cucking you out of progression because you decided to do side quests.
Yes until you start challenge mode. You do one of those and get steamrolled immediately because you didn't spend 100 hours dedicated entirely to grinding an entire party's worth of the meta new game+/DLC blades to S+ trust.

Frick off, the quest blades like Theory/Praxis, Kasandra, etc were great and it would have worked fine for the gacha blades to have that instead. There is nothing "exciting" about spending 10+ hours solely farming cores for Kos-mos or being a lucklet that rolls Ursula in postgame.
People get pissy about Z but I don't really get why unless you just had a completely different idea for the character in your head.
I guess we could have gotten more screentime from him in general but otherwise I think he was pretty enjoyable. N is fantastic as the human face of Moebius
NTA, but 2 has the worst characters in the series.
You can say the characters in 3 are boring, but at least they're not bad.
Also Jin is probably the worst written character in the entire series and I don't know why he has fans. The endgame heavily relies on how much you enjoy him and Malos as characters, so I'll take le amusement man over that any day.

It's funny to watch 2 and 3gays argue about who has the worst villains when fricking Luxxar and Gaelgar exist and are far and way worse main villains than anything from 2 or 3.

He could figure out where Ouroboros is at most any point in the game, if he doesn't always already know. And yet he chooses not to confront them until they're literally in his fricking house, in his kinoplex.
I get it, he's been winning for 1000+ years. He's personally killed Noah at least 4 or 5 times. So he has some right to be confident in his system and Mobius. But once they've killed half your lieutenants, it's time to put down your copy of Philosophy for Dummies and fricking ice them.

>And yet he chooses not to confront them until they're literally in his fricking house, in his kinoplex.
Because they're the day's entertainment. Consider that when there aren't any Ouroboros, Consuls are basically just playing IRL Total War against each other forever. Z doesn't even really control the Consuls, T basically confirms that he has no standing orders on how to handle Ouroboros. It's not hubris as much as Moebius is welcoming Ouroboros coming around to shake things up.
Z even sort of highlights this with his 'a revolution' line when you fight him. He sees Ouroboros as basically just the next plot point to give Moebius something to watch. The imagery of the kinoplex is that Moebius, as a force and entity, are the majority of souls pre-annhilation using the events of Aionios as entertainment while they keep Origin from activating (and potentially restoring or destroying the worlds).
This extends to Z himself because, as the Lowest Common Denominator for mankind, he finds entertainment in the events of the world and the way Moebius, The City and Ouroboros keep things interesting.
It's worth remembering that Z DID step in when he thought the world was on the bring of ending with Alpha came around. He doesn't bother with Ouroboros because he's sure they'll just take his place and re-instate some new iteration of Moebius. We get a couple bits to suggest he's not unreasonable to think this way. First, when we see that his face as Z-infinity is morphing between the party's faces (indicating that the party does contain some of the basic desire for the Now that enforces Z and Moebius' existence). Second, Lanz literally quotes "You did not just tell us to become Moebius" when the queens bring up that the Party can stop Origin from activating if they want to.

Not to be reductive, but that sounds like hubris to me.
I don't know. It feels convenient to say Z wanted to let them get that far for entertainment's sake and he has no control over the Consuls.
He gives them orders to go deal with Ouroboros. I just feel he lets them get too far. It's not just killing Mobius that is too much, they're freeing colonies from their Flame Clocks. That weakens all other Mobius in turn, and destabilizes the Circle of Life he's crafted here in Aionios.
Even if he were to defeat Ouroboros, killing off entire colonies worth of people or mind controling them all again sounds like a lot of fricking work.
I just don't like how passive he is, yet he throws an actual tantrum when he's beaten.

>What did you think of Xenoblade Chronicles 2?
Great game, like the rest of the series. Probably my favourite Switch exclusive. >Is it the best in the series?
Nah that's still X.
"pneuma" never existed, that was just the original core, when Adam resonated with it his fear of her power kept him from fully awakening her and mythra came into being, shaped by his doubts and his fears of her own power
then when she had the traumatic breakdown, she created pyra to cope and locked herself away in her own consciousness, but pyra was not a split, nor did she come from nothing, she was a realization of all the things that mythra wished she was: kind, gentle, motherly, not as powerful and dangerous
she was in fact creating this alternate personality using traits of her whole being that were locked away, never originally realized with her and Adam because of their not holistic resonance
over time pyra and mythra grew more distinct in their own mind, talking to each other like sisters, but it wasn't until rex found them and wholeheartedly connected with her that she literally opened up to him, and eventually at the peak of their affection he was able to fully realize her, which is where her "pneuma" form comes from
it's not some new alternate personality, it's just the two of them combined, realizing them as whole that always had the potential to exist if there was such an affectionate bonding with her driver, which rex and his simple minded but hopeful young boy personality managed to draw out of her and overwrite her own self hatred and desire to die, their love literally made her the strongest blade
then in the end it was simply that Rex had grown accustomed to them being separate, he loved both, and could not choose between them, so when they resonated again in the end they simply manifested as separate people, due to his own influences and desires
remember, blades are fundamentally shaped by their drivers, and the relationship between them is what drives the entire system
After replaying 1, I think I like 2 more. Everything from Egil onward is amazing, but there's more padding than I remembered, and that was basically my only real flaw with 2. 2's art direction is unbelievably good, so good it makes 3 that much worse by comparison. The areas are jaw dropping and the soundtrack is killer. The story and characters are comfy in a way I didn't appreciate at the time. Not every story needs to be deathly serious with ultimate stakes at all times. 2 has a lot of moments that fall flat, but I think there an equal number of nice moments that make the adventure enjoyable. 3 I don't think I need to justify an opinion on - the prison sequence was good and uhh yep try not to think about Z too hard
I really hated this game. Loved the rest of the xenoblade games but 2 was tedium incarnate. And the characters were god awful. Pretty much all of them except Zeke and Pandora were horrible.
That's what I never got about these games >Kill animals and their babies, some not even hostile, and some clearly capable of at least some level of intellect >Kill robots that have been shown to be capable of feelings >This is fine
>Attempt to kill 1 human in self-defense >NOOOOO HOW COULD YOU? YOU PSYCHOPATH!
Yes it is. Despite trannies complaining about muh booba.
Best story, characters, musics, world, villains. 3 is the worst because it tried to be ESG compliant
I'm playing 2 right now. Haven't finished 1 yet, put it on hold for a bit. I like the cut scenes in 2 more cause they're funnier and I like the anime esque feel. I don't know why it gets disliked by some people. Silly things are fun.
I probably will. Its just I put 1 on hold cause I got 2 as a gift for Christmas and wanted to make sure the cartridge worked. Turns out I liked 2 enough to keep playing lel. I'm at the part where they're breaking Nia out of the ship.
1 and 2 can be played in any order really, the end section of each game enhances the other.
Good to know. Ideally I would finish 1 before 2 but only time will tell cause I'm playing 1 on my 2ds xl. Pretty cool that they fit it on there. The world is so HUGE!
The exact issue isn't because it's goofy, it's that the Xeno series as a whole is more dark and philosophical than goofy. People cheerypick scenes from the funny moments of old games, but the tone in 2 can allow for goofy disgaea tier moments where a character can slap another character and send for flying across the universe for a sake of a gag.
It's like playing a Yoko Taro game composed only of the comedic scenes and none of the morbid or depressing shit he's known for, it's very noticeable.
Ah ok I guess I can understand that. I just thought it was people hating anime or whatever. I've never really played a Xeno game outside of these 2 so I didn't really know this was a more serious franchise.

No Xenoblade game plays itself, there's a massive amount of micromanaging in every aspect of these games.
I find 3 superior from a gameplay and graphics standpoint, but on pretty much everything else 2 remains superior. The only reason this game was ever relevant is because of the coomerbait designs

I guess we could have gotten more screentime from him in general but otherwise I think he was pretty enjoyable. N is fantastic as the human face of Moebius
I'll give you N, but Z is genuinely terrible. He's not even a guy. He's a physical manifestation of a planet's worth of negative feelings.
"Hubris" being the reason the villain loses is almost always unsatisfying and contrived. And it stands true with Z.
>Dude it amuses me, lmao
Z doesn't lose because of hubris though
