>pointless
They're infinitely moddable, and will continue to improve for years to come. Anyone calling them "pointless" is a brainlet. The OOT PC port for example is already better than emulation on every front.. hell, even the brand new Link's Awakening port completely demolishes your point.
>What do we think about decompilations?
They trigger my fascination due to how much effort and passion they require >Anything you're looking forward to?
Majora's Mask one will be interesting. I don't really know about all the others than the Jak games
Man I know it's going to be a while but this is gonna be absolutely sick once it's a thing. Not to mention what updates the PC port will get in the meantime
They're kinda cool but ultimately their existence doesn't really drastically change anything for me because I don't really play mods and I don't play Ocarina of Time or whatever enough to care that much. Like I might replay Ocarina once every couple years, but even that's a stretch.
It amazes me that Nintendo doesn't just do these project themselves. Just decompile it once themselves, then they are free to just keep repacking it on each system as an "upgraded" version, too.
>It amazes me that Nintendo doesn't just do these project themselves.
Like, they archive the complete source code already, because they have actual foresight for things like this. They just pack in emulators with ROMs instead of actually porting most of the time though.
Want an Oblivion decompilation and source port, will probably never happen.
It's strange to me devs are so opposed to releasing source code, did Carmack releasing the source code to all his games really affect their sales at all?

meaningless unless people use it to build new content. The OoT decomp is cool since it's made rom hacking a thousand times more accessible, but the new LA one has yet to prove its worth.
Yeah it's just a remake, which is honestly not a bad alternative. It's easier, but the biggest hurdle is to get everything to feel the same as the original.

What do we think about decompilations? Anything you're looking forward to?
Driver 2 PC port is the most impressive because the PS1 original had awful frame rate and draw distance
Jak 2 and 3 I guess
>What do we think about decompilations?
Mildly interesting, but pointless.
>but pointless
bug fixes, better ports, the list goes on
I'd love to see old sim games (SimCity 2000, 3000, 4, SimTower, Yoot Tower) get decomp'd but that would never happen.
>pointless
the Ocarina of Time PC port is absolutely incredible, and wouldn't be possible were it not for the decomp
>pointless

I wonder if they could find a way to decompile rom hacks also
>brand new Link's Awakening port
I'm starting to lose track of these, is there a website that keeps tabs on all the active port projects?
Youtube
Banjo Kazooie and Tooie because the N64 runs them like shit and they emulate like shit.
But we already have those Xbox ports
>What do we think about decompilations?

Majora's Mask one will be interesting. I don't really know about all the others than the Jak games
>effort and passion
Stealing other people's work isn't effort and passion. It's theft.
Stealing from high security places requires a lot of effort
What did they steal from the developers?
they're great
most recent ones were doom 1 and 2 RPG
Symphony of the Night and Majora's Mask.
Good. MM.
Majora.
Decomp Oot+MM combo Randomizer would be cool.
Also I'd love a decomp of any Smash bros.

It makes it possible to mod my favorite games and change them to solve what I feel are their biggest flaws, so that's more than justification enough.
Very cool and shows how full of shits corps like Nintendo are when they offer a poorly emulated ROM instead of running it natively with improvements.
It amazes me that Nintendo doesn't just do these project themselves. Just decompile it once themselves, then they are free to just keep repacking it on each system as an "upgraded" version, too.

they keep trannies cooped up at home instead of raping children so they're good imo
>why not both?
Crash team racing
Goldeneye?
an ingame model viewer
>Anything you're looking forward to?
Majora's Mask PC
Will try out Link's Awakening DX HD soon™
It's so good. It's like a Hero Mode because it's more difficult in the right ways. Plus, it's comfy being able to see more on-screen.

Dark Cloud decomp would be cool but also a never ever probably
Level-5 shows it no love
There's a Ridge Racer: Type 4 too
Yeah that one looks promising
Final Fantasy Renaissance
dare I say it's the definitive way to play FF1 over Pixel Remaster.

>but the new LA one has yet to prove its worth.
is that even a decompilation or is it just a recreation?
Threads have been calling it a decomp and I'm pretty sure the source code was in the gigaleak, but I haven't looked at it in depth.
Just looked at it and the code is 100% C#
Yeah it's just a remake, which is honestly not a bad alternative. It's easier, but the biggest hurdle is to get everything to feel the same as the original.
making it the same as the original would be moronic
Driver 2 PC port is the most impressive because the PS1 original had awful frame rate and draw distance

they are cool, but as always some neckbeards treat them like the second coming of christ.
Soon sisters.
