What do you anons think of Skullgirls Mobile?

I find that it's fun in some places. a bit grindy but it has some epic rolls and the combat system is easy to learn. I particularly like the RPG elements in it.

Yes, I am aware of the censorship controversy even affecting this game. I'm mentioning it now so that it won 't be a whiplash for some when looking through the thread.

    I DO NOT CARE SBOUT THIS MID LOOKING MOBILEGAME
    I wish tekken was ported on mobile though, it is the only button mashing fighting game I can stomach. That and smash bros.

      A fighting game? How's that supposed to be comfortable on a phone? Unless this is another autoplay gacha.

      It works well actually. Tap the enemy's side to do basic attacks, swipe/hold to do command normals (launch into air, sweep, overhead, and so on) and tap the special/super/assist buttons to do special/super/assist attacks. Unironically playing Big Band in mobile helped me git gud with him in the PC/console version. but I havent played after they fired Alex and Mike so what do i know about the state of the game right now

      Well the actual Skullgirls game on console was censored to hell, removing any kind of triggering content and images, devs being “embarrassed” about how things they made aged poorly, cutting things out and changing designs like a decade later lol. So yeah, devs are gays.

    It's a fun adaptation of the original game, obviously doesn't reach even 20% of the autistic complexity of the original, but that they could build such a consistent version only on taps and swipes is cool. Wish the gamd was less esoteric and so fricking ridiculously grindy in some areas (retakes, keys and move level prices, such fricking cancer), but the combat itself is more entertaining than any eastern gacha I've played.

    Also funnily enough, I find the censorship has almost nothing on mobile for some reason, in comparison to 2nd encore at least. Filia's burst is censored, sure, but her panty change shit I think it's not here, double's portrait isn't censored, they censored the armband of some parasouls (star crossed) but forgot others (high ruler), stuff like big band's story mode censored cop brutality isn't here either because big band's story mode isn't here (ironically his origin story is, and he's still beat up in that). Overall I think almost all the censorship bullshit focused on 2nd encore for EVO purposes, mobile has some of it but they're not equal.

    This piece of shit board is not only slow as molasses to begin with, it also disregards anything that isn't anime gachas, so you won't get to talk much about SGM here.

        Ironically, it kind of is, but western artstyle is one hell of a drug. Case in point, 4 first replies to this thread.

        All the shitty backstage drama doesn't help either, putting off people that would have otherwise tolerated the artstyle.

    trying this again after a while, and rolled the bronze black dahlias
    wtf, she's so easy to combo with
    i'm the kind of noob that only goes for the "combo > launcher > juggle > trip" string that everybody does, but now i might actually bother trying to work some more stuff into my inputs
    haven't gotten umbrella yet, so we'll see how that goes
    btw, how do you counter someone just blocking? i know the tutorial tells you the counter is throwing, but throw cancels exist and are extremely easy to do if you're already blocking

      The first throw you do in the game is free; save for very rare exceptions, the game will always let you land the first throw and won't break out of it. This activates some sort of internal timer, and if you try to throw again during it, the AI will just break free over and over.

      Beowulf and cerebella, as grapplers, have a lot of command grab special moves and blockbusters. These are impossible to break free from, so they frick up any character that spams block. Other characters also have command grab specials/supers, namely squigly, fukua and umbrella. Umbrella's is particularly good as it is ranged.

      Every character has a charge attack (hold the screen, release). With the highest upgrade of their skill tree, this charge attack becomes completely unblockable. Similar to throws, the first charge attack you do is free, but the AI won't let you spam them; you can get 2, maybe even 3 in a row, at best. Some charge attacks suck (peawiener), others are great (valentine, sekhmet).

      That's about all I can think of without involving special abilities or modifiers. Some characters inflict something called guard break which nullifies blocking, others have all their attacks become unblockable under certain conditions.

      Also yeah dahlia is very fun.

        Oh I forgot to say that there's also AI manipulation. Against a blocking opponent, if you do dash attack into 4 first hits of the ground combo, then backdash, then dash attack into 4 first hits of the ground combo into backdash again, you will always force the AI to leave the blocking stance respond, usually whiffing their attack on your second backdash, which should give you an opportunity to punish them.

        This is mostly useful for characters with very fast dashes (filia) or characters that have screen-wide punish methods (headless ms.fortune, robofortune, peawiener, parasoul).

    I haven't played in some time but I dropped it when I got to the point where the only things left to do were Master Story (which requires specific unit types to enter each node in addition to the match modifiers) and grinding out Prize Fights/Rifts with subpar offense units and hoping I didn't get stuck fighting actually good defensive teams.
