they acknowledged that the legendary trio category is inconsistent and changed it to "starter"
a starter category is a bit too free for my liking, and only allowing first evos is restrictive, but i'd take that over something inconsistent
I actually fell into a pokedoku rabbit hole and found a few alternatives that are a bit nicer and have Infinite Modes.

2- https://www.sudokumon.com - this has an Infinite Mode, a Time Trial Mode, and a Daily Mode. Doesn't have uniqueness though.
