It's a ttrpg that just came out like last month. Made by the Runehammer guys who did the Index Card rpg. It's like a VERY narrative take on fantasy gaming, very rules light but with a lot of customization. Uses some of the best bits from the apocalypse engine but also has some inspiration from games like ars magica and shit, let's you customize spells while keeping everything simple. No "primary" stats (like STR, CON, etc), everything is a skill and you don't "level up", you purchase skills like Savage worlds.

Nah, the rules are like 30 pages at most (most of that is magic spell creation and the narrative around magic). Mundane characters can flesh their characters out in like 3 pages. The other 270 pages are narrative stuff and the setting, and gives you a great feel for the world. The book includes an adventure you can run, a dm guide, monster manual and creation of monsters. The reason why it's volume 1 is because Runehammer wants to continue the narrative later on, but the book is self contained.

You can make a character here in like 5 minutes, and figure out the rules in like 10. But if you are a tinkerer with RPGs, the game does reward people who spend time their time.

The only thing I've heard about it besides being a nuOSR is that its damage system which uses your skills and items durability as hit points. It obviously will make the combat looks like a cartoon with random humor. It was also praised by Professor DM who is a kind man but shill too much for such uninspired OSR cashgrabs as Dark Bad, I mean Shadowdark.

      >Professor DM
That's actually who I heard it from and I picked it up. Is Shadowdark really that bad? I haven't taken a look at it yet, this one caught my eye first.
      >It obviously will make the combat looks like a cartoon with random humor
I find it cool how a monster can knock your ability to speak out.

        Anonymous

Well, Shadowdark is a meme. I mean, it is in its name.
The advertising campaign was impressive thanks to the author's online presence and her wife's marketing skills. But it is just a regular old D&D house rules rehash. You don't have to play this game to get it. You read it and see reviews like "Oh how distinguished. This game has no such a thing and has no such a thing. It is awesome that this game has nothing. The true old-school spirit! I guess, a bare bonus D&D clone is the peak elegance. You can back it now. I was not paid to say this, btw."

        > I find it cool how a monster can knock your ability to speak out.
Yeah. Every damn time. You will lose your ability to pick locks three times a week and every combat will lead to a series of items damaged or falling down like it is some sort of Looney Tunes saloon fight. I don't know how anyone with experience in gaming doesn't immediately see what kind of problems it raises it terms of narrative, mechanics, and verisimilitude. If the player has a choice, it is only logical to choose to lose the same equipment and skills over and over again, since in the game it will be obvious that some things are more important than the others. In other words, your hit points have different value.
If it must be narrative-driven, then players need to have an exercise in creative thinking to explain how enemy attacks gravitate towards the same weak points over and over again. For example, if there is no item or skill that can be associated with your head, your head becomes invulnerable in the game world. Death spirals will probably create classic scenarios when players want to heal their wounds to venture forth, turning the adventure into a slugfest.

          Kek
          >If the player has a choice, it is only logical to choose to lose the same equipment and skills over and over again
Kind of. Equipment is not only damaged, but it breaks. So the points you put into your gear can be 100% just dumped by a strong monster. And also, most monsters don't give players the opportunity to pick the actual skill that gets damaged. So death spiraling can be real, but also
          >when players want to heal their wounds to venture forth,
The game doesn't actually let you do this. There's a thing called a Brief rest where you get 1 skill or 1 equipment back, but you can't dump your healing skill during that brief rest. It's kind of game-y like that. Makes players nervous to continue to the objective and maybe try other things than just fighting.

I want this meme to frick off and stay fricked off. I hate that the RPG space has become infested by failed writers that shit out a miniscule amount of mostly reskinned rules and hide behind being ruLeS LiTe and NarRaTiVE. I hate that the hobby has become a lifestyle and something you buy and talk about instead of something you just DO. It's all so tiresome.

If you haven't read the book, then you don't really know. The narrative and rules are kind of blended together. Other than the "leaning stones" and the art pages there's a purpose/rules for every page.
      >I hate that the hobby has become a lifestyle and something you buy and talk about instead of something you just DO.
This hobby was a lifestyle before most hobbies nowadays. It just wasn't popular. Now you see more people talk and buy into it because it's a little more popular and not just in a couple guys in a basement. Ttrpgs are social games after all.

We've been looking at pbta ripoffs for over a decade now. We know they're a grift. Frick off.

I like some of the ideas presented (losing items / abilities as HP which makes a difference between between having full health and 1 hp left), fixed initiative score, and 'lore' being built-in to character creation in a meaningful way.

Getting another shill to post vague nothings about it, because there isn't anything in the game to post about, is not helping.

I'd rather all the contents I need to run a game, learn its setting, GM tools, monster statblocks, and player options in one book than being cucked by a corpo into buying 3 books because of legacy and then being drip fed DLC for the rest of my life.

Look at your image, then type your sentence. It literally has all you are asking for in the book with no DLC. I don't know what your complaint is. The other volumes are going to be different games, not DLC to this game.
